I'm new to optimizing and would like some input on a build I'm considering for a long-term campaign, beginning at level 1, most notable around Feat selection. As I have drawn it out so far (human):
Level 1. Specialist wizard (conjuration). Taking the focused specialist option from CM and immediate magic option from PHB 2.
Level 2. Sorcerer. Taking the metamagic specialist option from PHB 2.
Levels 3 and 4. Wizard.
Levels 5 - 15. Alternating Master Specialist and Ultimate Magus, starting with MS.
Levels 16 - 20. Continuing with Ultimate Magus.

The three metamagic Feats I'm looking at are imbued summoning, extend spell and sudden extend spell. Also looking at Vatic gaze and maybe infernal sorcerer heritage for the +2 CL for summoning evil outsiders. Does this bonus apply to my wizard summonings? Plus also looking at Feats to increase summoning capabilities.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Todd

You'll get much better advice as the thread goes on but if you want to be Summoning Evil Outsiders drop Sorcerer for Malcovoker, which has summoning Evil Outsiders as it's whole schtick.

If you want multiple styles of casting, I recommend going Beguiler 1/Wizard 3/Ultimate Magus 10/wizard advancing PrC 6. Use Practiced Spellcaster (Beguiler) to mitigate the wizard spellcasting lost. If you can somehow not lose more than 3 wizard casting levels, those 6 levels could go to Malconvoker.

Actually, forget that. if you really want to rock UM (and, more importantly, don't mind the smell of Limburger) look below.

Go Venerable Dragonwrought Kobold Loredrake, grabbing Greater Draconic Rite of Passage at 6th level. This trades you all of your sorcerer casting for wizard casting. Go something like Beguiler 1/Wizard 1/Stalwart Sorcerer 2/Ultimate Magus 10/Malconvoker 6. You may have to time the Greater Draconic Rite of Passage a little later than normal, due to your advanced wizard casting, but you should still end up with 9th level spells on the wizard side.

[Edit]: For relatively low cheese arcane summoner, sorcerer/nar demonbinder (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20030502a&page=2) 1/Ultimate Magus gets a handful of good summoning spells on the side.

D'oh, how did I miss that? Thanks for the correction.

I would favor:
Wizard 3/ Conjuration Master Specialist 2/Malconvoker 9/Master Specialist 6
For an extremely high quality summoner, with many options, and relatively little complexity.

Throw in Fiendish Summoning Specialist [Feat, Planar handbook] and roll deep.
