So, Animazement was this week-end. It's the largest convention in North Carolina, mostly aimed towards anime (obviously, haha). But yeah. I just got home, so I decided to upload photos (taken on my lovely, high quality Pantech cell phone) I saw an amazing cosplay. Not necessarily for quality or attention for detail, but for who it is.

Does anyone else attend these strange events they call anime conventions (or other conventions in general, like scifi or somestuffs)? And why?

Personally, I think they are fun. They have annual Super Smash Bros tournaments (although I didn't partake in it this year), as well the rave (which isn't as awesome as it sounds, but still pretty fun). And to protect my girlfriend and sister from creepers.

Yeah I attend anime conventions, though mostly just the local one here in southern UT. Planning on attending the one in vegas though.

I think they are a fun experiance, especialy the cosplaying part. thats what I get most into. I love seeing others creativity. (by the way that MitD one is awesome and a creative idea) I'm also a fan of the dealer's room  that is when I have cash:smalltongue:

The dealer's room is always a great trip! I think it's hilarious when I'm looking through anime DVDs and I can't tell the pornographic ones from the normal ones. I only bought art this year from the artist alley, though; I didn't find anything interesting in the dealers room, which was quite surprising

I attend local ones, local in this case meaning any con interesting enough to be arranged in the southern half of Finland. Usually that makes one or two a summer, which I attend (more than that are organized, though), and maybe a one or two for the remaining portions of the year.

I'm planning to attend a Polish convention in July. That would be my first anime convention, as I got convinced by a certain friend that my loneliness issues could be fixed by finding some aliens, time travelers and espers weird people like me. :smalltongue:

As for "other" conventions, I'm a regular visitor to Polcon fantasy convention, which, this year, is going to fuse into a Tricon (http://tricon.info/) (which is like a mix between Polcon and Eurocon, or so I heard). Sounds interesting.

Expo TNT and LA mole are the big one here in Mexico, La Mole is every three months and Expo TNT is twice a year, I would love to go to all of them, but my pocket only accounts for one per year.

Eitherway I love them and once I even convinced some of my non-geek/animefan friends to go with me and even cosplay!!!... man that was fun

I've meant to, but I'm too lazy to costume myself properly and too poor to buy nice things. Such is the life of a college st00dent, eh? :smallyuk:

That's not that much of a problem. I personally know someone who did a great Tamaki (from Ouran High School Host Club) by buying clothes from a cheap, used clothes store (the glorious lumpeks). Those stores are rife with useful stuff for cosplayers. Since he already had the blonde hair, all that was left was a rose, a violet suit, and voila. Oh, and he also practiced the Tamakicisms in front of the mirror. :smalltongue:

Even if you don't have the material or time, you can contribute at least slightly, like Jim Halpert did (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJueYeZ_LSU).

I don't attend any, since I'm not an anime fan myself, but my brother goes to a local one yearly, called Youmacon. I was actually a little jealous of him for it last year though - some of the guys from That Guy With the Glasses were there, and he got to meet them, get autographs, get his picture taken with some of them (including with Doug dressed as the Bum and Lewis as 90s Kid), and was even in the Bum Review video of the event. Lucky guy.

There's one or two in Ireland (the biggest being Eirtakon (http://www.eirtakon.com/)), but I've never managed to get to one. :smallfrown:

I have to say, I was pretty surprised when I first saw a mention of Eirtakon and thought WE HAVE THOSE HERE?! I'd thought all the cool stuff was in England, Spain, etc. :smalltongue:

I've gone to many a con, along with conducting studies related to the field. They are nice to go to, but I've mostly stuck to the west coast.

Some of my best memories of high school are from anime conventions. I wasn't ever particularly into anime, but (like all other media), it has its incredible along with its bad, and conventions, fortunately, mostly select out the better material. Also, most of my shady-ass punk kid friends were also huge nerds, so it was a fun weekend to hang out with my friends and do our shady-ass punk kid activities away from out parents. By this I mean smoke cigarettes and make foolish romantic decisions, which are, respectively, the bread and butter of any decent misspent youth.

Also, finding what costumes your and your DIY-obsessed from piles of old clothes is fun!

I must say, I feel special and a tad honored to have a thread made over my costume (the fact that I won a bet over the speed of my costume ending up on this forum also adds to that special feeling). I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed Animazement today. Cons like this are awsome and I'm glad I have an annual on nearby to attend. Great fun.:mitd:

How did she/he see?

Anyway, as for the question. I do no attend anymore. They remind me of a lost youth.

pa. I love the Hello Kitty part.

Seeing was hard. The cloth was sort see-through, but not really. I could see people's feet. I went with a friend that acted as a guide, walking in front of me to I could see his feet. After a while I just gave up on trying to walk inside it and just carried monster-san by the umbrella handle until someone wanted a picture. It's good to know just how many OOTS fans go to these things, I was asked for many pictures.

I regularly attend Anime Central in Chicago.

Next year I plan to actually cosplay - just need to figure out what! I was thinking Tobi/Madara from Naruto, since that way I can cover myself up with a mask and heavy cloak.

I'm not pretty.

I've only recently attended one of my local conventions, Archon near St. Louis. I have however, also visited Otakon, in past years. I did cosplay for both of them.

That was you? That's pretty awesome, dude! I didn't expect to see an OotS cosplay in the sea of Naruto, Code Geass, and Soul Eater. It was a pleasant surprise to see something different and awesome

Cons in the Philippines are somewhat boring since they're usually just parades of anime that was popular last year. However, sometimes there are awesome cosplays, so I attend just for those.

Finally, the presence of Alodia (http://blackmage9.deviantart.com/art/The-Baroness-III-139874449) is always a reason to go to a con.
