Okay. First off... I'm probably crazy for doing this.

Second, I'm gonna do it anyway.

Iter Vehemens ad Necem (A Violent Road to Death) is a roguelike. Now, these things have a tendency to be hard.

IVAN is no exception. Compared to IVAN, games like Nethack and ADOM are child's play. Easy games to warm one up for a session of dying in IVAN.

...

Did I mention I've never even played IVAN before?

Now, it asks me for my name, 1-20 letters. The suggestions must flow!

Well, Ivan of course.

Obviously.

That being said, go nuts (http://www.valinor.sorcery.net/names/names.cgi?which=default)!

I approve of blind runs of roguelikes. :smallwink:

I, however, do not approve of blind runs of rouge likes.

Still, I admire your effort. (I felt you could of told us more about the game, but I'm sure you will get to that.)

Well, if it's as hard as you're claiming, how about "Iamsodead"?

I gave you all the information I had.

Going through the name suggestions in order, let's start with brave Ivan.

Ooh, plot exposition. I have survived all those horrible things, apparently. Surely this cave must be a cakewalk.

Nah, who am I kidding?

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2757345/IVAN4.png
A nice friendly starting place. A little moving around reveals I'm on top of a village, with a cave nearby. Let's go look inside the village first!

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2757345/IVAN5.png
Village seems to be quite boring. The banana workers being whipped is a motivating touch, however. Let's go for this cave instead.

Wow. Nice, talk about lack of sight range. Well, this surely won't stop brave Ivan, now will it? Wait, what is that to the north... it looks like a lantern.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2757345/IVAN7.png
Yes, it is indeed a lantern, and I can equip it. Now let's go for a walk.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2757345/IVAN8.png
Apparently the lantern is a weapon, and I was able to use it to kill a zombie. Now, the zombie dropped a leg, which I cannot wield in one hand, so, my dear readers, shall I stop wielding my trusty weapon, the lantern, and wield the leg, or shall I continue using my lantern>

What a encouraging start. At least you have a better reason to get adventuring than other people visiting some mountain chains. :smallwink:

(Also, are there any stats aquirable for the items? And why does it take 131 strength to wield a damn leg...)

Hmm.

Now, if you'll die as often as suggested, there's only one guy I'd want to send in.

If all else fails, go Nameless.

One.

We know who the one guy to end them all is (and his name starts with a M), but let's watch some failures first before sending in the heavy guns. :smallwink:

Is it just me, or are all your stats mediocre?

I downloaded the game and tried playing it.

The first character was poisoned and died from blood loss(odd, that poisoning causes blood loss...but I did try eating stuff I had no clue about).

The second character found a few nifty pieces of equipment, but wielding that inaccurate bastard sword proved to be a bad idea, as I was slaughtered by some monsters...

The third guy(DiesHorribly III, if anyone wants to know) found a birch longsword(extremely accurate, 0-2 dam) and a teak shield, and used this combo for quite some time. He managed to find four gods(valpurus(king of gods, good), seges(good, of healing and health, less good than valpurus), some god of destruction whose name I forgot(very very evil), and another (slightly less)evil god *of vile magic*).

He was eventually killed on level 3 of the cave by greater carnivorous plants.

Omygod! A zombie tore off DiesHorribly IV.'s right LEG!

I have a one-legged character hopping through the dungeons...

and he died before he could reach the town's healer.

Folks, she's trying to play unspoilered. How about we not post spoilers during her first game?

I second that. Sprinkle spoiler tags liberally. (It's even in the BBcode bar now.)

Hmm. How many deaths on Genetrix Vesana, any bets, anyone?
