I remember hearing about a new edition coming out sometime this year, but my google-fu failed me. All I got was this (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=108304), a link to where I first heard about it.

So three questions: who currently owns the rights to shadowrun (therefore should have the website for it)
Does anyone here have a link for it, or more about it?
And based on current info whatcha think about it?

Personally I'm happy as I liked 3rd ed fluff more, although I like wireless a lot more that previous. Also the matrix passes aren't perfect as is, but at least it isn't 100 to 1 (or was it 10 to 1?)

*edit* Was it ever confirmed it was an april fools? I'll be sad if that was it.

As far as I know, 5th Edition is not officially confirmed. However, seeing as Topps is likely going to be awarding the Shadowrun license due to Loren L Coleman's embezzlement and fraud sometime within the next few months, it is very likely that the new keeper of the Shadowrun license will, as one of their first actions, release a new edition of Shadowrun.

If you're curious, this thread (http://tgdmb.com/viewtopic.php?t=50989) and this thread (http://tgdmb.com/viewtopic.php?t=51136) are about the legal situation, and this thread (http://tgdmb.com/viewtopic.php?t=51152) is speculation about what 5E might look like. (Mostly it's just fans doing the speculating, but there are a couple of former SR writers there as well.)

tl;dr: chances are, 5E will stay relatively close to 4E because it was so much more popular than past editions; the only areas likely to gain major revision are the Matrix and Vehicle rules.
( Of course, just because a past edition was exponentially more successful than past editions doesn't necessarily mean that the next edition will try to be like it. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%26D_4th_Edition#Dungeons_.26_Dragons_4th_edition ))

AFAIK, there has not been any mention of Shadowrun 5th edition.

The license from Topps expired at the end of may, a few days ago. There has been no official announcement that CGL will renew the license, though there have been a few indications (http://catalystgamelabs.com/category/shadowrun/) towards that becoming a reality.

Though I'm pretty sure that 5th edition won't happen before 2011. First that is a significant year in the SR canon (and that can be marketed), and secondly is that CGL still has plans for a few books to sell. Some are even complete, just tied up in legal mumbo jumbo / production difficulties due to the Coleman situation.

If CGL does not get the license then any new company will need time to get out a new edition out; that is why I think 2011 will be the earliest we will see a new edition.

It almost makes me want to buy the company...or just the license.
