So, occasionally I become possessed and decide to run a game over the internet.

So far I've tried:

1. Using Steam chat for text and voice communication, and http://invisiblecastle.com/ for die rolls.

2. Steam chat for voice communication, and Gametable for a visual representation.

The difficulty with Gametable is that

1. There's no way to be an "Admin." Anyone can move any pog anywhere. People draw on the map.

2. It takes a lot of work to set up a map using gametable.

I briefly considered setting up a picture of the map on my desktop using Procaster (and then move everything around myself), but in my experience that has an impressive 30-120 second delay between me doing something and other people seeing it, so that'd be kinda slow and clunky.

I don't know too much about Gametable, but I know MapTool (http://www.rptools.net/index.php?page=downloads) is a similar program that lets you set "ownership" on pogs, so only specific users and GMs (users which you can set to log in with a different password) can use them.

That, however, I can't really help you. I usually just draw the map up in Photoshop/Gimp/Inkscape whatever's at hand, and import it into another program if I need it.

I use Maptool from Rptools.net. It's fantastic, it's got a map, chat panel with a dice roller, you can set your self up as DM which let's you do things the players can't, there's a natty Fog of War effect... I could go on all day, but I won't.
