Yes, a map (or least a detailed description) would be nice, as it will determine my ability to charge them, etc. How many are we looking at? Are they armed? Armored? Is this is the other group of PCs, or a different group (or do we not know)? I'll be away for the next 1-3 hours, but I'll check back and hopefully be able to make a post by then.

Edit: Finally, are we authorized to use lethal force? Perhaps more accurately: Have we been instructed to not use lethal force?

Although not as illustrative as hand-drawn or from-the-book maps, these grids do great for play by post games. Simply copy-paste (or quote) this into your post, and add in the characters where they go on the map. Each space is 5', just as in a regular game of DnD.

I'm going to assume that Zantamul can hit them regularly (he can reach as high about 10' high, give or take, while mounted. If necessary, I can get the exact numbers, although that gets into murky waters). I'll have a second post up shortly; this was supposed to be in the OOC thread :smallredface:

As the others' warnings go unheeded, Zantamul draws his longsword and raises it high.

For your failure to submit to the will of Lord Avelrionstrx, by the authority of our lord I sentence you all to death!

Zantamul spurs his mount forward, charging across the field. He brings his sword down in a mighty swing against the frailest-looking target in the front. His swing is powerful, and he spins his horse around to put some distance between himself and any feeble retribution the so-called members of the Resistance can muster.

Zantamul will Charge the nearest opponent as a full-round action, preferably an enemy in hide armor or less. If the enemies are 40' away, he can move 40', attack, and then move 40' again without provoking an AoO from his target (Ride-by Attack). He gains a +2 bonus to his attacks for charging, and a possible +1 bonus for having the high ground (since he is mounted, unless all of them are climbing, which may put them at equal elevation).

To Hit - [roll0](14 if target is on the ground)
Damage - [roll1] (Spirited Charge feat doubles damage on a charge)

He will then move 20' away from the enemy to a spot some distance apart from the rest of the Enforcers, so as to prevent any of their wizards from catching them all in a single spell.

Edit: As an aside, whenever he is attacked, Zantamul can make a ride check (+6) against a DC 15 to duck behind his mount and gain cover against the attack. Just in case he gets attacked and I'm not around to roll for myself.

Just wanted to get that cleared up a little bit for easier viewing. Given that Zantamul is mounted on a Light Warhorse, he should be taking up four squares, rather than one. On his turn, he will charge the nearest resistance member, the one in square [D, 13] if he has not moved until Zantamul's turn using the rolls above.

Do we know the gender of the Dragon Overlord? It would help to be able to say "he," "she," emperor, empress, etc. instead of these generic terms, of which I am running out of fast.

I shall have to keep an eye on that one; I sense the seeds of discontent within him. Did I have any trouble slaying those blasphemous rebel humans back there? No. My blade fell with no reservation in the service of the Overlord. The blessed scales that are a sign of my servitude may make him forget my lineage, but that does not make his claim any stronger than my own to "my kin." I suppose it will serve if he merely continues to remember his position, and to place his allegiance to the Overlord above all else.

I will represent character thoughts in colored italics if that is acceptable; Zantamul is not speaking any of this aloud.

For the record, I have no problems with Khaos/Dusk Eclipse, but I plan to play Zantamul as a firmly loyal zealot of an evil god, and as such, he may comment to himself or others about party members not acting as reverent as he believes they ought to be. Just don't want you guys thinking I'm criticizing you personally :smallwink:

Edit: If we have not received any more gold, then I won't have much to do in town. I realized that I forgot to buy feed for my mount, so I'll pick up a few days rations of that before we leave, but otherwise I'm set to go immediately.

Zantamul also takes use of the time to prepare himself. He obtains a Composite Longbow to give him a more visible presence in ranged combat. His trusty sling has sufficed for a while now, but there's only so far that a polished rock can be thrown; an arrow travels faster and longer. He also buys a hefty quiver of forty arrows, and obtains some cheap rations for his mount for the journey. He figures about three days worth should sustain them during the journey, but Zantamul purchases a few extra days just to be on the safe side. His horse is the his biggest investment, after all. What's a few more copper?

Zantamul purchases a Longbow (75g), 40 arrows (2g), and 5 days worth of rations for his horse (25 copper). He also picks up 3 more sunrods (6g), giving him 5 total. This leaves him with 109 gold, 6 silver, and 5 copper.

Zantamul consults the map.

This is definitely the right place.

Zantamul looks around for an area that looks like it could offer any kind of shelter from the elements in sight of the road; it would be nice to have somewhere in mind to set up camp.

I agree, let's have a look around while there's still daylight. The reports were fairly recent, so lets cover the area and look for signs of a struggle: footprints, rubble, things like that. Without some kind of clue, we'll either be forced to sit here and hope these heretical goblins show themselves, or scour the countryside at random; I don't like either option.

When we do set up camp, Zantamul will tie a quick-release knot for his mount (undoes itself with a tug). May I suggest that, being in hostile territory, we establish a night watch? The Tarnished needs his rest as a spellcaster, but the rest of us should be able to take shifts. Zantamul can cover the first shift.

Reacting to whatever shot him, The Tarnished uses his symbol to channel the breath of his ancestors. A bright blueish silver light flares around his wings armor, and along his hair, and then into his symbol. An icy blast fires forth.
