You'll want to see Captain Marcell then. he points towards the far door and you walk through the door. Inside is a man just approaching middle age. He is wearing a pair of spectacles that seem to shimmer when the light catches them just right.
He looks up from his work and asks, "What can i do for you, my boy?"

Kylar flashes his most charming smile at the captain. Greetings, good sir. My name is Kylar, and I am a newcomer to your city. However, I have heard tale of the criminal element in the area, and the stress your own guard is under. I have...unique skills that i would offer to your help.

"What kind of... skills?" he asks.

[vorpal_sledge]

Kylar runs a hand through his hair, sighing. I am an assassin. An assassin of wizards, specifically. Or sorcerers. Or anything magical, really.

[planswalker]

"Well, that is certainly something the city guard is not equiped to handle. Do your skills also extend to those with divine magic?"

[vorpal_sledge]

Yes, i suppose i could. I am less well equipped to deal with them, but i deal with that problem when it comes.

[planswalker]

"I have heard rumors that there is a priest of Nerul running around in the city, hiring people to kill wantomly. If you can stop him, I will compensate you for it. I prefer you bring him back alive, or at least get information out of him first, like if there is anyone else he is working with."

[vorpal_sledge]

Kylar smiles and salutes. Of course, captain. I would gladly bring this murderer to justice. I must ask, however, if you can give me any other information regarding his whereabouts?

"I believe he was last seen near the Sisters of Salvation, although that was a day ago, so there is no telling where he is."

[vorpal_sledge]

Kylar sighs. Well, i suppose that would would be the best place to start. Just point me on my way.

[planswalker]

he gives you the directions to get there. it is just down the street, a squatty plaster building.

Kylar stands outside, pondering. deciding quickly that a frontal assault would not be the best option, he moves around to look for any side or back entrances.

Seeing the shabbiness of the building, Kylar sighs. It is always a shame when the neediest suffer that most. He wanders up into the door and knocks firmly. Is anyone around?

[planswalker]

A tall, blonde woman answers the door. She seems to have a serenity and grace about her which is out of place in this shabby setting. "May i help you?"

Kylar blinks rapidly, taken aback, then coughs and answers Yes, er...I am a new employee of the watch, and i have been sent to..take care of a bothersome priest. Of Nerul, I was told, and I was also told he was last seen nearby. Any help would be much appreciated.

[planswalker]

"Well, I'm afraid that i can't be too helpful. We did lose a member of our order today, but I do not know who it was that paid the assassin who killed her. She has already been avenged, and the villain's corpse has been given a proper burial. Feel free to talk with the sisters here, and see if any of them can tell you more."

I am very sorry to hear that. Thank you for your offer of help. Was anyone else of your order present when this murder took place?

[planswalker]

"No, she was murdered in an alley. all but one of the witnesses were killed. The one that survived is also the same man who avenged her death. He is a dragonborn dwarf who can become invisible at will. He told me that i could contact him by asking Captain Marcell of the city guard to leave a message for me. I'm sure you could do the same."

Thank you for the help, sister. I almost regret to ask ask, but do you have any brothers or sisters of significant spell casting ability?

[planswalker]

"Well, i myself am a cleric of not inconsequential skill. Two others of my sisters here can also cast a few divine spells."

[vorpal_sledge]

Well, i have to ability to...use others spell casting ability to form my own spells. If you would allow me, and show me where this criminal was buried, i would like to speak with his body in order to glean what information i can.

"because of the heinous nature of his crime, we will allow this bending of our rules."

[vorpal_sledge]

Kylar bows deeply Thank you, sister. Now, if you would permit me to take your hand, i would like to borrow some of your spell energies. Kylar reaches his hand out to the priestess.

[planswalker]

She takes his hand in her own. "What exactly do i need to do?"

[vorpal_sledge]

Kylar flashes a smile. Just relax, and do not try to shut me out. It may feel a bit...strange, but no harm shall come.
I am guessing she has a third level spell slot for me to borrow?

[planswalker]

yep

she waits for you to do it.

[vorpal_sledge]

Kylar closes his eyes and concentrates for a moment, and draws in some of her energies, resulting in an almost tangible flow from her body to his. he opens his eyes and smiles again. There, that wasn't so hard to do, was it?

[planswalker]

"No, and be glad i trust you. What do you need next?"

[vorpal_sledge]

Yes, well...just point me to where the murderer is buried. I must also ask to borrow a holy symbol of your order, if i am to cast this spell.

[planswalker]

"Very well." She lends you her holy symbol and takes you to where he is buried. It appears as though the grave was dug only yesterday.

[vorpal_sledge]

Kylar kneels by the grave, and begins shoveling the dirt out of the way, until the body buried underneath is revealed. he then proceeds to cast Speak with dead using the borrowed energies.

[planswalker]

Although the corpse seems reluctant to rise again, it eventually does so. "What do you ask of me?" the elf corpse queries.

Who hired you to kill the priest?

[planswalker]

"A man dressed in a dirty robe who was playing in the dirt."

[vorpal_sledge]

Where did you meet him at?

[planswalker]

"He approached me in the streets, near the Maid and the Mermaid."

[vorpal_sledge]

Kylar sighs. Did he have any distinguishing facial characteristics?

[planswalker]

"He wore a hood covered in pig filth. i did not see his face."

[vorpal_sledge]

Rest, then. Kylar releases the spell and stands up, brushing his pants off and sighing.

the corpse returns to its state of motionlessness.

[vorpal_sledge]

Kylar turns and hands the holy symbol back to the pristess. i suppose this Maid and Mermaid place would be the best place to start, then. I believe it was on the way into town, yes?

[planswalker]

"Yes on the west side of town. Good luck on your venture." she says, taking the holy symbol back.

Thanks you kindly, m'am. Kylar bows, then walks back out onto the street. Well, first stop is the Maid and Mermaid, i suppose. Never hurts to gather information, and i might save a step by meeting this dwarf, if he to is searching....

you approach the maid and the mermaid from the back, looking for clues as to where that man could have gone. what do you do?

A terrible explosion suddenly rocks the entire city, and the ground shakes as if an earthquake were tearing the city apart. The sky lights up from a blast many times the brightness of the sun, and you are certain that certain death has at last come to claim you. As the brightness fades, you look toward the Mages' Quarter and see the last remnants of the horror burning directly towards the sky in a seemingly endless stream of raw, burning mana which threatens to tear reality asunder. What seems like an eternity passes as you stare, though it is likely only a few seconds, and at last the blast fades away. In the distance, you hear a building collapse, and you are certain that something horrible has been unleashed upon the city.
