Question about Animals in D&D 3.5

hi all i am currently training an animal in a game to perform a certian task thus it is "trained for a purpose" and the "performance DC is 15" now how do i determin how well the animal performs this task dispite it not having a perform check.

is the level of performance determined by the check of my handle animal skill??
