Status: Nomination Round

Now this is special the (well, at least my) first sequel! Yep, it's been over a year since the last one (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112970), and now it's back, and I am your host this time. Just note that it is just the theme that I use, the general rules will be the same as my other "in the Playground (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=8232292#post8232292)" threads. Now, who can you nominate? The answer is:

Anyone who was born female and still is female (or died female).

Also, the character has to be fictional, but like in the last thread "fictionalizations" of real people are allowed. The same goes for deities: to avoid religious discussion, only nominate fictionalized versions.

Not allowed
Transsexuals.
I declare shanenigans on this one.

If a character is biologically female and identifies as female, why should she be excluded only because she wasn't born biologically female?

Synthetic beings (unless you can prove why they should count)

I'll try to prove that, yes.

There is a lot of fictional characters who, while created synthetically, are obviously female - that is, not only do they look female, but also identify with the female sex. Some even have the appropriate... parts, but let's not think about it too much. I'll just drop the TVTropes page here (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RobotGirl).

Also, I suggest we either limit nominations to 5-8 per person, or broaden the nomination list rather than having a strict cap. Otherwise we'll run out of characters really soon.

Now, here are my nominations:
-Subaru Nakajima (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS)
-Ayamu "Osaka" Kasuga (Azumanga Daioh)
-Yuki Nagato (Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya)
-Lamia Loveless (Super Robot Wars series)
-Patchouli Knowledge (Touhou)
-Setsuna Sakurazaki (Mahou Sensei Negima)
-Chachamaru Karakuri (likewise)
-Noriko Takaya (Gunbuster)

And probably many more, but I'll leave it at 8 nominations so far.

@Whoracle:
If by the Kobold you mean the third party member (black magic-using Sprite), then I'm pretty sure that's a guy.

@Whoracle:

Yeah, that's who I meant. Internationally it has never been stated what gender it was, afaik, but in the german version it was female. Plus it being female is more fitting with the magic theme in the setting, i.e. males being the defenders of the casting females. Fits, too, if one counts Seiken Densetsu 3, if I remember correctly.

But if everyone else feels this is inaccurate, then disregard the sprite.

Actually, after performing research (rereading the TVTropes and Wikipedia articles), it seems the Sprite's gender is left ambigous on purpose. The English version had it as male, but like you said - the German went in the opposite direction. So I guess the nomination counts.

I declare shanenigans on this one. We have several male-to-female transsexuals even on this very forum - are you going to tell them they do not count as real women?

And if not, why should we treat fictional characters differently?
I don't believe it is possible to answer this question without breaking board rules. At the least, it would get this thread locked due to derailment.

Perhaps I should re-edit the question to make it less likely to invite rules breaking/thread locking then. In fact, doing it now.

I'm seco-, uh, thirding Cubey. While I have not done this sort of thing before, I was considering getting involved, yet was turned off by that rule. Even if the characters I was going to nominate probably would not fall under that definition, it still irks me somewhat. Mmhm.

I really am going to have to third fourth allowing ->female transsexuals, here.

Fifthing Sixthing the sentiment. I probably won't be nominating any who would fall under the rule but that doesn't mean I agree with it. This goes for m-to-f transsexuals as well as synthetics. There are so many fembots/female-identity cyborgs in sci-fi that it would be silly to exclude their fans.

I think the "synthetic beings" one depends whether the contest is humans-only, or any female. If it's not humans-only, then they should be allowed, and also:

Nala.

Can I ask, just so I know, are we determining which female character is the most liked, or which female character is the most female (by some interpretation of the word)?

In any case:

Marena of the Red Crecent (Keychain of Creation)
Secret (Keychain of Creation)
Sir Integra Wingates Hellsing (Hellsing)
Esmeralda Weatherwax (Discworld)
Tiffany Aching (Discworld)
Rose Lalonde (MS Paint Adventures)
Kin (Goblins)
Nami (One Piece)

Saber (Fate/Stay Night)
Hayate Yagami (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha)
Ayase Yue (Mahou Sensei Negima)
Aya Shameimaru (Touhou)
Suika Ibuki (Touhou)

Not interested.

What's so headdesk-worthy about the notion that transsexual characters should be allowed to participate?

The OP nominated Tiamat from D&D, so I'm presuming it's not humans-only.

Somewhere around this many. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_transgender_characters_in_film_and_televis ion)

I understand that some of you might not agree with all of my rules, but this is MY thread. If you don't want to vote in it, then don't.

I am insulted by YOUR thread. Just so we're clear.

Fair enough, but just so you realize this type of thread by its nature is one that's for the whole community. Some inclusiveness and respect for other viewpoints might have been helpful.

Besides, another thread can always be made.

Sigh. Only in the Playground is the ability to nominate transvestites in a "Most Popular Female"-contest a threshold-question...

Sigh. Only in the Playground is the ability to nominate transvestites in a "Most Popular Female"-contest a threshold-question...

"Transsexual" does not mean "transvestite". And hey, if the characters aren't popular then they'll get eliminated. Why exclude them to start with?

Sheriff of Moddingham: First, no one owns a thread. You don't get to tell others what to do in YOUR thread. Second, this thread is pointless spam. It's just a list of things. There's no discussion intended or offered. The closest thing to discussion in this thread is personal attack and counter-attack.

Don't restart this thread or anything like it. Consider this a moratorium on voting and polling threads.

The other vote threads currently underway are under review. They are likely to be permitted to conclude and new ones not restarted. If new ones are allowed going forward, it's likely to be with some limits in place (similar to the guidelines for Vs. threads) that will ensure some discussion and not just lists and votes based on popularity.
