Everyone just assumes I'm going to win, besides I'm more likely to kill your mount first anyway, fast healers with 25 HD aren't something I want left around after I kill their friends.

Anyway, do you want to throw up a stat block? Here's mine-

You just, quite literally, chopped it into small pieces.

Indeed, your turn

((Immah have to pull out my dirtiest trick here, since otherwise I'm as good as dead next round.))

The Illumian looks at you with rage in his eye from the death of his life-long companion. His chest swells and he releases a garble of words foreign to you. Ancient words, powerful words, words that shake the very ground you stand on.

Akãnåtûl!

The words reverberate within your soul as your body slumps to the ground, lifeless.

I enter the Recitation of the Unclouded Eye to learn your current HP. (via Eye of Nomenclature)

And then ...

Syllable of Death, augmented to have an absolute limit of 199. (+20 DC)

I use my Epic Truespeech aspect of Epic Hero to assume a natural 20 on my truespeak roll, granting auto-success.

You die.

Well **** me. Next time I'm only spending enough attacks on your mount to actually drop it and then moving on to you :smalltongue:.

Niezck
2010-06-15, 12:36 AM
:smalltongue:

Let's assume I don't use my horribly powerful insta-kill (which I'm sure there's some flaw with, there has to be ...)

I'd use the reverse Syllable of Death to revive Ghautar to full HP again, using my "nat 20" ability to beat the base DC of 65.

I'd then attempt a Rewrite the World (Wish) to sling a Finger of Death at you. (DC 60 truespeak - [roll0])

If that succeeds, DC 27 fort or die, if you pass you take [roll1]

Then I'd burn one charge on my belt of battle to enter the Recitation of the Fortified Body, augmenting the DR by 20 to grant DR 22/- should I pass a DC 42 truespeak check - [roll2]

(Btw, are we assuming my mount acts on my initiative?)

Your (hypothetical) turn ;)

EDIT: Bleh, gotta go to school very, very soon. Wanna finish our (hypthetical) fight when I get back or d'you just wanna call it a day?

shadowedsoul
2010-06-15, 12:44 AM
I'm fine with calling it a day, you failed your finger of death check, so I'd live to just full attack again next round (after attempting to blind both you and your mount).

High level games are fun, but a one on one fight almost always ends up being rocket tag.

Edit: Also, you get two free wishes a day, is there a reason that you (and really everyone in the party) doesn't have a +2 inherent bonus to all their stats?

Well, That was quick. The only thing I'd say to this is that Epic Truespeak doesn't say that it's a Natural 20, so it may not grant auto-success?

And when TDO has given similar abilities in his other Epic Destinies, he has specifically stated that they are Not natural 20's. RAW-wise looks like the matter is a bit iffy, but just thought I'd point it out. Hope ya don't mind my barging in. Normally I wouldn't in an IC thread of course, but as this was just a 'play' battle...

Only other thing is of course Varyshka coulda just attacked the rider first instead :smallamused:. But 879 damage first round! That's just...obscene! I mean, what's the point of anything with damage like that?

DM: Ok, as you enter the dungeon a massive....
Varyshka: I kill it.
DM: Ah...ok. Well, walking deeper in, despite your sneakiness, you managed to get surprised by a ravaging...
Varyshka: I kill it.
DM: Um, right. Moving on then. Having pissed off the God of X himself, suddenly you face his mightiest champion...
Varyshka: Yawn. I kill it, then kill the God and anyone who ever spoke to him. Hmmm, I think I'm kinda hungry. Oh, wait, I don't need to eat. Ok, forget it. Hey! Anything to loot in this place?

Meh, anything with Uncanny Dodge bones me, and any time we're fighting more than one opponent (i.e. most fights) my damage isn't going to be able to take everything out instantly.

Also there are things that have more than that much HP, some of the epic monsters are pretty brutal.

Even if it's not a natural 20 in the sense of critical hits, getting a 20 on his roll will let him succeed at that task, so it's still an auto-success.

Also, gods can cast things like Wish or Miracle or Reality Revision at will, I don't think I'm going to be taking them on any time soon. (If they're even statted up, personally I prefer gods that you're not going to win a fight with unless you've achieved deity status myself).

And besides, you've gotta admit my 'lil story was at least a little bit amusing, yes?

It did get a chuckle, especially the bit about being hungry but then remembering that I'm not.
