Hello playgrounders. Sorry to come back here dragging another homework help thread but I need participants!

This is an anonymous survey about mood. Its not fancy, but please read and do one step at a time!

1. Please rate your current mood on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being an awful mood, 10 being a great mood.

2. Now please frown for at least ten seconds, and rate your mood again.

3. Now please smile for at least ten seconds, and rate your mood again.

Thank you for your help!

I'll spoiler my answers:

1. My current mood is like 7.5 or something.
2. 7.5
3. 8.0

I understand what you're trying to do, but I don't think it actually works. Good luck though. Also, I had to smile when reading the second question.:smallwink:

My mood?

9

9.5 -- I can't frown. I fail epically. I tried, honestly, but I don't think I can physically frown. I just laughed.

9.5 -- Leftover laughs.

Thank you everyone who's participated thus far! I really appreciate your time, its hard to get people to do these things in person. >_<;;

4. I'm tired and cranky.
7. I'm tired and cranky, but just got to make a silly and overly angry face for 10 seconds.
8. I'm tired and cranky, but just got to make a silly and overly angry face for 10 seconds and then grin about it.

Mostly because it feels forced in both cases. Good luck with the assignment. In real life I have found that smiling increases my mood.

I think it's mostly because I put myself in a better mood or making good expressions, but the frowning things was still a bit too amusing. I cracked up on one point.

Part A: 5 Decidedly "meh".

Part B: 5 I Know what you're doing here + Frowning takes absurd amounts of effort cancel each other back to five

Part C: 5.5 Smug satisfaction that I was correct increased my mood a little bit.

1. 7 - Better than normal, but not estatic.

2. 7 - while thinking how odd this will look in the office.

3. 7 - while being amused wondering whether I will make the full 10 seconds without someone asking me to stop smiling. My smile is a little...disturbing.

Seriously, I don't see what you are trying to prove here. Correction: I can see what you are trying to prove, but the form of the experiment will negate the effects.

H'ok.

7, 5, 9. Frowning often fixates the thoughts on the negatives, while smiling the positives. Frowning made me think of my girl's ex-boyfriend (talking to now), and smiling made me think of her...

To begin: 5
After frowning: 5, no real change.
After smiling: 3, the effort I put into forcing that made me irritated.

10. 10. 10.

This is because I've just (like 30mins ago) been phoned and offered a job I recently interviewed for.. -This experiment mightwill suffer a tad from external circumstances like these, so hope you get lots of people!

2.6 - I feel pretty lousy.
2.6 - I feel like frowning anyways, no problem there.
1.8 - That nearly reduced me to tears. Barely made it through the 10 seconds.

7.8 - I feel like I didn't fail on that exam. My mood is continuously dampened by having to continue taking summer classes.

7.8 - No change. It was actually pretty difficult to frown, it felt too fake.

8.1 - Smiling makes me think of reasons to smile which make me happy.

7 - It's nice day.

4 - Crap, I don't have a girlfriend.

8 - Great, I don't have a lot of drama in my life.

Cheers and good luck.

8 - Nothing in particular today, but my life is good, I have a purpose, and I'm in the Playground.
8 - Nope, no effect.
9.5 - A smile is a wondrous thing indeed.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuut this is not scientific in any way. If you care enough about your homework to not just make up the results then please test us in a way that will produce valid results! :smalltongue:

Knowing I'm doing it just to rate any change may have negated the hypothetical change. Also, 10 seconds isn't very long.

Thanks guys, just needed more data points.

Two things:
1. Hugs for everyone who's feeling down, especially Bluewind. If you need a random stranger to talk to and don't have one feel free to PM me.

2. I know its not scientific, I realize this is not a good way to test, but it is the only available option; this is just an 'experiment' not necessarily a scientific one. So thanks for the concern (and alerts from good scientists!) but for this bit of homework surveying in this style is perfectly fine. :)
