Random Banter

Rules

1. Spam. For the purposes of RB, one word posts are generally considered spam. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* are also be considered spam. Remember that the quality of the post's content is much better than the speed of your response.

2. This isn't the Play by Post or Town forum, nor is it the Silly Message Board Games or Structured Games forum. Please avoid continuous roleplay or mock battles and fights such as the "competition for control of the universe".

3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well. The exception to this is to bring something that is off-topic from one thread, but on-topic for RB and the subject doesn't warrant a thread of its own.

4. Don't advertise other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.

5. Please don't post single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."

6. Don't poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."

7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.

8. As this is a public forum, where the current topic is nicely recorded for you, and not a conversation where you could have missed the beginning, please refrain from asking something to the effect of "What's the topic?". Please take the time to read up a bit first.

9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.

10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.

11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details.

12. Whenever a new thread is created, all "first post", "first page", and all posts of that nature will be deleted by the administrators. Please avoid doing this, as it is frustrating for them to deal with one-lined posts like this.

13. Double-posting is not your friend. We have edit buttons for a reason.

14. Once you have made a Random Banter thread, you must wait 50 threads before making another one.

Book of Playground
Chapter 142

On the first page, Ravens Cry said, LET THERE BE BANTER, and there was Banter.
And Ravens Cry saw the Banter, and it was Random.
The first page.

May the randomness of the banter be truly epic in this thread that is new and.. ehh.. random.

I have just seen an old man steal a baby.

It was slightly unnerving until I realised he was her dad.

Technically, that can happen.

Perhaps the randomness of the aforementioned banter leaked into the spelling? Such things have been known to happen, I has seen them with my eyeses.

Expulsed isn't even a word according to my spell checker, so I think that's the least of the thread titles problems. It's fixed now, anywho.

Curious. 142 is the number of the All-Seeing Codex in Elagune's comic Bibliography.

Well yes, I suppose 'expelled' would be the right word. I suggest leaving it all the same; its oddities reflect the nature of the thread rather well...

Expusled makes me think of pus.

It made me think of something that's stopped pulsing..
Ex-pulsed.. No longer pulsing. Has no pulse. Dead.
Even if this thread is newly born and very much alive.

I agree with Freddy 5-0, though, that the correct word would be 'expelled', but I like it the way it is now.

COINCIDENCE?! ...Yeah, probably.

Ahh...a fresh new Random Banter thread. Feels so good.

*BOOGIES*

This thread has been blessed.

As of yesterday I have only one exam left. I am happy. And we're going to a Japanese restaurant this evening. The weather is nice, I had an 'easy' exam yesterday, another 'easy' exam tomorrow, my friends and I get to go out tonight, I'm going home on Saturday (presumably) and it's the summer holidays.

I have a day and a half left covering this cursed account at work that I haven't got enough training to cover on my own, and no one to ask about stuff since the guy that usually covers it is in South Africa.

However, he's back on Monday and I'll happily hand things over to him again.
After that, I've only got Tuesday left at work before I go on my week and a half vacation to Sweden.
I've started the countdown.

KuReshtin: in South Africa for the World Cup? If so, JEALOUSY.

Dogmantra: today I poured milk on my little brother's breakfast cereal and he announced to me that it tasted funny. It did. We were using a newly opened carton a milk whose "sell-by" date was today, and usually it's good at least a week after the sell-by . . . but then, it was 2% milk, not whole. Yuck. So we opened the whole milk (which also had a sell-by of today) and it was delicious.

Oooooh, the RB thread I made is still around. That was a fun time, very controversial, due to the controversy of me not posting enough to have my own thread, but it was still a great honor. I'm doing the old man rambling thing now. Was 2007 so long ago?

Yep, he's there for the World Cup.
That's nothing, though. One of my colleagues from the American Football Referees Association had to put himself as unavailable for games for about a whole month because he was first going to Paris for the French Open tennis tournament, and then he headed to South Africa for the World Cup as well. He won't be back until after 4th July.

I think it depends on what you mean by naked partying. I mean, if I got invited (especially over Facebook *shudder*) to a 'Naked Party', I'd probably not go. However, sometimes at parties I have attended (during my normal university experience, mostly) I or someone else has become naked, and usually, this has not been a (serious) problem.

KuReshtin, since you're familiar with Sweden and the UK, how does the Swedish Royal Family measure up against the British one? I am curious.

The Swedish Royal family seems to be more generally accepted than the UK one. At least the opposition to the monarchy is more vocal in the UK than it is in Sweden.

Also, the Swedish royal family is a lot younger and prettier (see spoiler below) than the UK royal family, and they tend to have less newsworthy incidents happen to them. Or at least that's how it feels.

Nostalgia has that effect.
Thankfully (or maybe unfortunately, depending on your perspective), most of my memories up to this point in my life were from a time where I was incredibly unhappy and I just generally didn't like my life. So, I can look back to the last year or so of my life and remember some happy-ish times, look back at the 4-5 I recall clearly before that of emo-ness (I got better), or just say "bugger that" and try making my future more fun.

We must have a GITP Naked Party Week! Note: This would probably violate the forum rules. No. Don't actually do it.

My housemates in my first year had an agreement: I took chocolate, K took Strawberry and N took vanilla (coz she was a health nut but had random ice cream cravings so she had to have vanilla so she could feel less guilty coz it was plain).

It worked out well.

It's an illogical image in my eyes. There should be at most one extension at the top, not three. Color and shape imply one of the fuzzballs my lovely new duvet is dropping on the carpet as the seams fray.

The donut reminds me to go to the hot-dogs-'n'-donuts shop recently opened downtown. They can't glaze to save their lives, but the guys running it will make sugar donuts fresh when you order and know how to pile toppings on a hot dog, even sauerkraut and American mustard*. It's a taste of home. Hmm. Wonder if I could convince them how to construct a proper glazed donut. . .

*American mustard = mild sauce with flavor of mustard seed.
English mustard = culinary pain, like a chili too hot for your tolerance.

It's called "raps" in Swedish, and it doesn't come close to the other translation of "rape". The only reason that I included "-seed" was because of the stupid name, so that it would be a bit more obvious that I didn't misspell it.

ANd now for something completely different:
A post without pictures or links. Just words, hopefully strung together into a semi-coherent sentence or phrase.

Weather's been crazily gorgeous since lunchtime, makes me crave an ice lolly.

And since when did Cameron go blonde? Eh. Watching stuff that I don't get to see much, or hardly ever, is okay.

Insanely blue sky, makes me think that summer's going to be super-awesome, that is, if I can even find a job.
So blue, so delicious, it's actually cyan, I mean so blue that it's almmost white around the edges, purely cloudless and, welp, heavenly.
I hope the summer lasts more than a few days this time.

OK, so yeah, it's mostly because I couldn't find them online anywhere. I'll keep looking, but it I can't find them, I might have to choose some and let go of the others. :smalleek:

What's Schlock Mercenary?
It's a far harder then most science fiction webcomic about a team of mercenaries who do their best to get paid twice, thrice and generally as much money as they can from their clients. The art starts out crummy, but improves, and the story really carries it even with bad art.
It updates daily and has for its entire run that recently topped a decade.

And since when did Cameron go blonde?

You see, there also used to be an actual Boris Johnson, a boy slightly sillier than most, but with coherence. Unfortunately, during his time in the boarding halls of future power, some foolish lad picked up a suspiciously blonde-hued rock which had fallen from the stars, and carried it inside. . .now there is only the shell of a man, and the being from the stars seeks a new host and, this time, rather more brains to devour. . .

If you don't mind hard copies (which you can rip to your computer anyway) and if you haven't already checked, Barnes & Noble has a pretty good music section. If I want an album and I can't find it anywhere else, I generally go there and find it pretty well (but that's after sifting through a lot of junk). I dunno how obscure the music I buy is compared to what you're looking for, though. :smalltongue:

But you might as well give it a shot, if you haven't already checked. *shrug*

I've been meaning to start reading Schlock for forever now, but I'm so intimidated by the massive archives that I can't bring myself to start (and starting at any point other than the beginning would be cheating).

Of course, waiting longer and longer probably isn't a good idea if the size of the archives are what's scaring me. :smalltongue:

But both my brother and my friend have been bugging me for a while, so I might get around to it in the vast quantities I free time I have to myself this summer, perfect for archive binging.

Well, as I now live away from home for about six months of the year I don't get a proper bedroom.
There's also the Bedroom Rotation System at work.
The KoorlyParents get the master bedroom. Always.
For the other three it's been a switch of:
Boys get the Attic Room, Koorly gets the Little Room, Little Sister get the Big Room.
Boys get the Attic Room, Koorly gets the Big Room, Little Sister gets the Little Room.
Girls get the Attic Room, Elder Younger Brother gets the Little Room, Littlest Brother gets the Big Room.
Girls get the Attic Room, Littlest Brother gets the Big Room, Elder Younger Brother gets the Big Room.

So now it's Youngest Brother gets the Attic Room, Little Brother gets the Big Room, Little Sister gets the Little Room. And Koorly gets a fold-out bed in the living room.

And for some reason I am pleased that I "beat" you in the field of extended house-occupancy with fourteen years, though I'm sure someone will come along and make me feel inferior with a story of how they built their house from sticks and mud when they were an embryo and have lived in it for over a hundred years. Oh, it is. I mentioned my hypocrisy, actually. I just figure hearing it from two (anonymous but likely different; I used better grammar, a wider vocabulary and all caps) sources is more believable than just one.

Plus, I figure it'll be enough of a head-scratcher figuring out who sent the all-caps message that I'll have amusement for a while using that persona. I've already started shrouding my involvement by insulting myself.
I love using the anonymous option.

EDIT: This doesn't invalidate me for placing more emphasis on the "bastard" than the "magnificent", right? I'd like to keep my plans for universe domination untainted by something like the expectation of mercy or kindness.

We have five bedrooms in our house, and up until this year every single person in our family except me had at some point occupied every single one. Back when there were only three kids, each of us got our own, my parents had one, and we had a guest room. But now there are five of us (including cycoris) and therefore there is no guest bedroom. Riss has the purple room, whuch used to be mine (that happened while I was gone), I'm in the old guest bedroom/playroom (which is, amusingly, the largest of the rooms), oldest brother has the yellow room, two younger brothers share the blue room, and my parents have the crooked room/library (it really is crooked, one wall has a jink in it, and it's really long and thin...but there are tons of built-in shelves overflowing with books, so it's also the library).
