Kitaran

Kitaran pulls himself up onto the horse, watching the interaction between the two curiously. "Krahl, what are the lands like?" he asks curiously, looking to him. "It might be good to know what we're facing." He smiles and waves politely to the villagers as they go about their day, nodding his head thankfully.

Krahl blinks several times, thinking hard. It had been a long time since he had been there. "Land flat. Few hills. No trees, 'scept at ponds. Tribes follow herds, no need towns. Many horses. Feherloo good with horses."

((I'm guessing based on Wiki's Description of a Steppe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steppe). Please correct me if I have gotten anything wrong or left out things which Krahl would know.))

Marcuus steps out as he hears Krahl describe the plains and says, "We'll probably be better off going across them. The flat land would allow us a good travel place, and Krahl's knowledge of the region is a definite plus. Also, even with the chance of attack from the Feherloo we might have a better chance of dealing with them diplomatically than the peoples along the Hard Coast."

After a long waving-goodbye session, you finally leave the small town behind, and head to the great Brenwannian forest. Compared to the southern forests you've been in, the Brenwannian woods are much colder and mistier, altough not as dense with bushes and other undergrowth. You follow a small road, but many times, it ends, and you have to travel next to small rivers or creeks to avoid getting lost. Fortunately Krahl have spent much of his life in nature, and somehow he can always find the way back to a nearby road.

You travel until the nightfall without problem, only stopping once to eat from the goods the townsfolk gave to you. The night catches you in the middle of the forest. The mist makes it even harder to see, altough the moon is fully up to light your path.

(Geech, you got the plains all right!)

As night falls, Krahl stops his horse and looks to Marcuus. Krahl was not used to leading, but he remembered how the trackers signaled the tribe and he did his best to find good paths like they did. It was not the tracker's job to stop the tribe for the night, that was the chief's job, but Krahl knew it was best not to continue riding at night.

Kitaran

Kitaran frowns, pulling his cloak about him closer as they travel. He hated the cold, why couldn't more places be tropical or at least WARM he wonders. As they stop, he smiles slightly and quickly sets to gathering wood for a fire. He sets it up and quickly as he can gets it burning, trying to remember not to burn all the wood at once. "Nice lands," he remarks, looking around at the misty forest.

The dwarf is clearly quite comfortable with the cooler temperatures, although she rides along somewhat poorly in her usual semi-meditative, semi-taciturn way. She goes through her usual ritual of blessing the campsite as its setup, then starts to inspect and sharpen her spears.

As the party stops in the wilderness to rest for the night, Butch looks a bit ruefully at his bedroll. Don’t suppose theres much in the way o’ good inns on the plain are there, Krahl? Nah, don’t tell me… I’d like ta at least have the hope o’ sleepin’ somewhere besides the ground before we get back ta the Setonian's turf. (Sorry, I was away at my grandmother for the half of the week.)

You quickly make a camp for the night, and after a light dinner, you go to sleep. Aside from the constant and sometimes really embarassing howlings, you sleep well. The night was cold, and even a light rain came down upon you to make it feel even colder.

But these drawbacks aside next morning you wake up relatively fresh.

With Krahl's ancinet wisdoms and Btch's snarky remarks, your journey is easy and, well... full of snarky remarks, you even enjoy the travel through the mysterious Brenwann woods. You haven't seen a village for days, and have only met with a pari of travellers, but they didn't understant your language, so you hadn't the chance to talk with them.

Only one thing is bugging you. The howls at midnight start to get creepier every night. You have known the wolfsmen of the region, but this constant howling at the night sound way more sinister.

The third night came quickly in your travels, and you maaged to find a place near the raod, a small clearance in the forest.

Butch was awake during the watch, playing with his cigar, and Encendar, when he heard the unearthly howls coming from very close. Too close for even the bugbear's taste, the sounds seemed to origin from the forest right next to the small camp.

The hairs Butch’s neck stand on end as the howls tear through the night at such a close distance. Setting Encendar down with a whispered admonition for him to wake his master, Butch stealthily glides from teammate to teammate, waking them up with a shake and a finger pressed to his lips. He then finds a likely space from which to ambush anything that might come rushing into their camp.

A few moments of tension-raising waiting passes in nearly complete silence. Only the ocassional noises coming from the bushes outside the camp breaks the utter silnce. Then with growling and howling, four wolf-like creatures rush out from the woods, coming from different directions, all going towards you near the centre of the camp.

These creatures, altough resembling to the wolfmen, are clearly not members of that race. They eyes radiate hellish red light, and their features are distorted, as if they were neither men or wolf. They are barking wildly, as if they were mad, as they quickly close on you. You reckongize the creatures as were-wolves, foul creatures under the feared Brennwan curse. It seems they didn't notice Butch at the shadow of a large tree, and ran past him in their charge to the camp.

The wolves rush out from the surrounding bushes, and jump on Marcuus. The first and the second attacks him, and with their flainking tactics, the second manages to tear into Marcuus' skin. (4 damage)
The third wolf attacks Bjera, and bites the dwarf's shoulder. (7 damage)
The largest werewolf, which seems to be even more sinister than the rest three, closes on Krahl, and tries to bring down the strongest foe quickly. It moves alomst supernaturally fast, and drives it's foul teeth into the orc. (9 damage, forst save succeeded.)

Bjera pulls out a silvered spear, and asks her god's help for the battle, and faces the wolf menacing her.

Butch strikes the first werewolf, and drives his kukri into the beast. Altough the hit would be devastating, striking directly into the creature's heart, the wolf remains on his feet. (critted, but the DR negated most of the hit)

Kitaran whispered a protective magic, and a barely visible force surrounded the mage, protecting him.

Krahl swinged his massive axe, and score a brutal hit, which would outright kill a lesser creature, yet it barely effected the cursed were-wolf.

Ely, who luckily wasn't attacked directly by the wolves, shot an arrow at the wolf, but her arrow failed to do any damage to the unholy creature of the night.

The first and the second wolves continue flanking Marcuus, and the second was able to bite into his arm. (8 damage)

The third wolf attacks Bjera, but the dwarf woman shoved the werewolf's head away with her spear.

The packleader attacks Krahl again, but the orc evaded the bite.

Bjera counterattacks, and her silvered spear tore into the beast's flesh, and the werewolf screamed from the pain.

Since Ely is not in danger, and she was firing arrows only at the beasts fighting with Marcuus, Butch can continue his attack. His scimitar is fast and well-aimied, and cuts deep into the monsters flesh.

Kitaran's fire magic was shot in just too much haste, and he missed the werewolf, altough it caused them to stop for a moment, as they looked at the magician.

Krahl could make it to Bjera's attacker with a swift step, and he swung his greataxe, wuonding the third wolf somewhat.

Ely attacked the second were-wolf, but she missed the agile creature. (I don't remember if it was a silvered dagger or not. I'd say it could be a masterwork silvered spear, so she has some chance to really hit the werewolves.)

Marcuus, now magically strenghtened, attacks the first, already wounded werewolf, and his bastard sword hits hard, overcoming the creature's unnaturally tough body.

The first wolf is in a bad shape, but it won't surrender, it keeps attacking Marcuus and bites the human once again 5 damage. The champion now bleeds from many wounds.

The second wolf, seeing that Marcuus is wounded, turns at Ely, bit misses the agile elf girl.

Krahl, still rather confused by the whole 'infected' thing, glances around at the woods to make sure they are in fact still woods and didn't turn into a 'fected' while he wasn't looking. Seeing nothing to worry about, he considers how they would transport were-wolf blood. He scratches his head and hesitantly says, "Waterskins?"

After the night of werewolf-disturbed sleep, you get up lately, and still rather tired.

Any sign of the werewolves are gone, save for the slain ones. These rather disgusting creatures started to change back to their human forms when slain, but death got them before, and now thew will lie until eternity in this hybrid form.

Being new to the forests of Brennwan, you don't know what to expect during your travel, but the road shows signs of frequent traffic, there may be a settlement not so far away.

He moves to one of the corpses and does his best to collect a vial of the blood, wiping it clean and putting it into his pack when done.

"Ready when you all are," he says, seeming to grin slightly.

You continue your travels, surprisingly undisturbed this time. At the end of the day, you reach a small Brennwanian village. It is similar to the one you came from, but much smaller, and not as tidy and prosperous. A warrior who was standing on the walls, spots your approach, and with one leap, he jumps down to the ground. He's not armored, and carries a long Brennwanian spear. He is a strong human, and his strong chest is unclad, revealing green and blue tattoos on his light skin. He has Brennwan-style, long light brown hair, and turquise eyes.

The man stops in the front of you, and he seems to be quite confident even when facing your obviously well-armed group. He crosses his arms briefly in front of his chest, a kind of Brennwannian greating. He speaks a few words to you in Brennwan, his own language. Altough you don't really speak Brennwan, you understand that he introduced himself as W'llor of the Thok clan, and the village as Morygg Thok, and asks you to introduce yourself.

OOC: did I ever tell the name of the village you saved? :/ I think so, but I couldn't find it no matter how many times I read through the archives.

The village is a tiny one indeed, only with a couple of wooden houses and yurt-like tents. The inhabitnants of the settlement seem to be very weary, suffering from hunger, and most of the males are injured. The majority of the people are humans, with some gnomes, and a few elves as minorities. They seem to be frightened of Butch, perhaps they have never seen a bugbear before.

Some of the militia try to stop the raging beasts with their long spears, but their attempt looks futile at the best.

W'llor, the proud warrior shouts orders while he runs for his own spear, and orders the women and children to be evacuated into safety. Marcuus and Bjera could get to a monster fighting with the locals to help them out. Bjera hits with her spear, but it hardly even penetrates the thick hide of the owlbear. The beast continues raging, and it choses the dwarf woman. A giant claw hits Bjera, causing her a great deal of pain (10 damage), but luckily she was still able to evade the menacing beak of the creature.

Ely, Krahl, and Butch enters into fight with the second beast. This one already fell two locals. Krahl's axe and Butch's wound it, and the owlbear screams in a voice you'll remember forever. The beast jumps at Krahl, and the orc wasn't quick enough. The claw of the owlbear hit him on the shoulder, and his arm was caught by the beak (14 damage).

You hear the breaking of bones, and Bjera notices Marcuus' left arm was broken by the bugbear, and a terrible wound is visible where his shield used to be.

Butch and Karhl are capable of showing ferocity like the owlbear. Altough Krahl misses this time, the bugbear's deadly accurate as usual, and wounds the beast once again. It bleeds badly, but it doesn't seem to slow it down. It hits Krahl noe last time with one of it's claws (9 damage), then it turns it's attention towards the bugbear.
