So.. as I have (for the most part) drawn a blank on what to do, but how could someone go about building a dwarf who, instead of fighting, engineered complex disasters to defeat enemies, and/or set up simple traps.
In other words how to make a dwarf fortress style dwarf without the insane champions.

All I can really think of is a combat trapsmith, with a crossbow.

Not a crossbow, a sock.

You aren't thinking dwarvy enough, socks can shatter all their bones, AT ONCE. Pinnacle of dwarvyness right there.

Edit:
Take kensai to enchant your socks.

There are some builds of such dwarfiness, you will not believe the dwarfiness. They'll show up soon.

Dwarfliest classes:
Artificer, especially a meleeficer.
Incarnate/Ironsoul Forgemaster. Oh hell yes.
Warblade-or-Crusader/Deepstone Sentinel
Even better - with homebrew, you can combine them! See the Combat Artisan (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79949) or Soul Tinker (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141564)!

If you want Dwarf Fortress style, Combat Trapsmith is definitely a good bet. You could try using a throwing hammer and/or throwing axe with Ranged Sunder to break things so they fall on your opponents (this may require fairly liberal house-ruling). A Factotum or Rogue entry is probably best. You should consider the Dwarven Rogue racial substitution levels, which trade a sneak attack die for extra damage against objects and constructs.

Though you're not looking for a fighter-type, you should still consider dual-wielding an axe and a hammer. The axe’s blade is a beard, soaked in alcohol and permanently frozen (+1 frost) via magic. The hammer is an adamantine beer stein attached to a handle, filled with alcohol that is permanently on fire (+1 flaming) via magic. “Beardaxe” and “Alehammer” are obviously quite dwarfy names for said weapons. You should also consider going into Kensai and enchanting his beard as an unarmed strike.

In any case, max ranks in at least one of Craft (weapons), Craft (traps), and Craft (brewing) are pretty much mandatory. Don't take Craft (soapmaking) or levels in Aristocrat unless you like the taste of lava.

You should also read at least part of boatmurdered, though it has some really bad cursing in it.

Also I just find this,http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=157582

not a spike pit, an axe pit. they fall down ok, but standing up and moving slashes their skin

I think the ultimate Dwarf name is, hands-down, Rumbleguts Shinkicker, courtesy of Terry Prachett.

Beardbeard the scourge of the 14 seas.

Warblade/Dread Pirate/Drunken Master

Race is either dwarf or wild drawf, depending on if you want beard armor or not.

Give him an adamantium AnyPint which he can use as an improvised weapon and there you go.

I'm no 4e expert, but I believe any build can be the dwarfiest dwarf seeing as the whole philosophy behind 4e is "You don't need a book to RP."

Assuming 3.5, I'm surprised no-one's mentioned Dwarf Paragon (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/resources/systems/pennpaper/dnd35/soveliorsage/unearthedParagon.html#dwarf-paragon) racial class from UA.

I was about to ask that...
So yes, why did he get banned?

On DF
I tried it and didn't try again. It's awesome believe! IT REALLY IS. However is has an EXTREMELY steep learning curve, hence why I didn't try again....(I'm lazy)

It's against the rules to talk about it:

Discussing Banned Posters: We value our posters, and take care only to ban posters who commit egregious or repeated violations of our Rules. Once that action is taken, though, it is an Inappropriate topic to discuss, glorify, or memorialize banned posters or their rules violations. We have found in the past that such displays are disruptive to the community. If you have a concern regarding a banned poster, we ask that you send a PM to Roland St. Jude, the board guru for these forums.

As for the dwarf game... ASCII isn't really my thing, but I'll concede that dwarves can be just as good at trapmaking as gnomes using that as a base, from what I've seen.

I think that a rather dwarfy Dwarf would be a Dwarven Defender that wove double-layered platemail out of his own beard, and used a large, backpack-fed pipe-like device that spewed flaming dwarven ale onto his enemies.

Also, he carries a forging hammer with a steam-powered rocket thruster on the back.

Also, the portion of his beard-armor where his chin should be is growing a second beard of its own, of a different color.

Things to make your Dorf the best Dorf ever:

1) Completely oblivious to the fact that he is on fire. Takes damage, but never really notices.
2) Wisdom somewhere in the region of 5, at most.
3) Intelligence at least 15.
4) Barbarian/Battlerager, because, let's face it, they tantrum spiral at the slightest provocation.
5) Craft flowing from every orifice, especially trapsmithing.
6) Axe specialisation a must, unless he is a sheriff, in which case Hammer.
7) Alignment must, by the DF Dorf's very nature, be NE.
8) Urist McBarsteward a good name (you know what I'm getting at there)
9) Oh, and a phobia of both Carp and Elephants a must.

In one game we had a dwarf named Glod Glodsson the 3rd the 4th.

You see, Glod was a dwarven hero, so his son was Glod Glodsson, and he named his son Glod as well, and so on and so forth, until you got to glod Glodsson the 3rd, who was even more heroic. However, in order to differentate between the Glod Glodssons, they named Glod Glodsson the 3rd's grandson Glod Glodsson the 3rd the 2nd....
