What do you think the best undead template is, aside from vampire and lich. I Have some minotaur villains with character levels that they players will kill soon. Way down the road I want to bring them back as buffed up undead versions of themselves hunting the players down for revenge and in the name of the BBEG who will be a God after the end of the campaign.

I would like wight but there's no template.
Their current classes and levels are fighter 6, fighter 7 and barbarian 8
And that'll increase when I redo them as undead

Do you mean best as in most powerful overall, or best as in most CR-efficient?

Well they don't need to be over powered, but i would say either of those

Pathfinder Graveknight seems OK to me (It's pretty much flavored as a warrior-lich with its armor as a phylactery)

I'm sort of a fan of the Curst template from Forgotten Realms. (a somewhat hefty +3 LA and some pretty nasty mental ability penalties traded for almost complete immortality, and decent SR.)

Libris mortis has a charatcer level progression for wight. Add it all together and you have a template!
Table 2–7: The Wight
Hit Base Attack Fort Ref Will Skill
Level Dice Bonus Save Save Save Points Special
1st 1d12 +0 +0 +0 +2 (4 + Int mod) × 4 Feat, slam 1d4
2nd 1d12 +0 +0 +0 +2 — +1 natural armor
3rd 2d12 +1 +0 +0 +3 4 + Int mod +2 Cha
4th 2d12 +1 +0 +0 +3 — +2 natural armor
5th 3d12 +1 +1 +1 +3 4 + Int mod Feat, +2 Wis
6th 3d12 +1 +1 +1 +3 — +3 natural armor
7th 4d12 +2 +1 +1 +4 4 + Int mod +2 Str
8th 4d12 +2 +1 +1 +4 — +4 natural armor, +2 Cha, energy drain, create spawn
Vampires with class levels are FUN! :)

Evolved Undead, but for that you need to be undead already...

I'm fond of the Ghost (core) personally. Works best for squishy spellcasters, though.

Curst is a nifty one, now that I look it up.

I have a player playing a Ghost and they rock! (he has some ghost related feats too from the afore mentioned Bad latin book).

A Ghostly Sorcerer would be a lot of fun... :) Shame you have 3 fighty types really.

It's almost worth the +5 LA, it's certainly worth +2 CR

If we include other d20 services, I personally love the Revenant.

Otherwise? Curst, since its the poor man's Revenant.

Edit: And I just fully read the OP. Go with Revenant from d20 modern's Menace Manual. They're animated by pure thirst for revenge and decently unkillable until that revenge is met.

Isn't there an Umbral or Shadow template out there? Really depends on what you want. Umbral would make your guy a strength drainer. Undead class progression is probably the way to go in any case.

Can you add the Tauric template to a skeletal creature and thus make a Skeletaur? "Curse you, He-Man!!"

"I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling masters of the universe and your cat!"
