Question in title. Just wondering if there is any way to do it, preferably free.

Download this, (http://freemusicsoftware.org/category/free-vst-effects-2/bit-crusher) get Audacity if you don't already have it, load your song, apply the bitcrusher, leave downsampling at 1, drive at 0.0, and bits at 8.

I have had my mind blown twelve times before even visiting this forum today.

You just blew it again.

Thanks a lot. :smallmad:

How does one apply said bitcrusher?

I'm having trouble with that, too. I assume the .dll file goes into my plugin folder, but I don't know how to use it in Audacity itself.

*doesn't use audacity, ever*

Umm, there should be some menu or another giving you that option... If you wanna get illegal (CHUMLEY DOES NOT ENDORSE GETTING ILLEGAL) it's a good deal easier. Cockos Reaper is perfect for this kinda thing, but I doubt you'll want to shell out $60 for it...

Was pretty sure that most people re-recorded the song themselves as a MIDI then applied 8-bit soundfonts...

OK, the trick to enabling the plugin is to first download the VST Enabler (http://www.audacityteam.org/vst/), and then it should show up in Effects. But that does not solve my problems: instead of Downsampling, Drive, and Bits, it gives me the options Dist Type, Gain, Bit-Depth, and Downsampling, all with a 0 to 1 span with six decimals. Help?

EDIT: I might be close to a breakthrough...

EDIT: Close, but not there. Using the latest version (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/beta_windows), I managed to get the proper display. However, Moff Chumley's numbers don't result in anything but a little static in the background.
