Good Morning, I have a small favor to ask all of you. Can you please assist me with some of the abbreviations and terminology used on the website when discuss game concepts.
These are the abbreviations like "RAW, RAI, and so on". I can detect certain abbreviations simply, such as the abbreviations of various source book matter (ToB, BoVD, etc.,etc.), and I am aware of some of the munchkining terms, like Pun Pun, Batman Wizards, and so on. Just some of the basic jargon, because I am lost:smallfrown:

I do not see RAI there.

RAI = Rules As Intended

I think there's one more RA... acronym.

RAMS, which I've always assumed meant Rules as Make Sense

RAW: rules as written

RAMS: Rules as MAKE SENSE

And since they're kind of buried in that list of definitions:

RAW: Rules as Written. In other words, rules read as if you were in a court of law and wanted them to mean precisely what they meant rather than what they might have been intended. RAW, a Dragonwrought Kobold is a true dragon and RAW it advances by age category up to venerable, therefore a 1st level kobold sorcerer it is eligible for epic feats by RAW.

RAI: Rules as Intended. In other words, rules that you read as if you knew what the author MEANT to say when he wrote something really stupid or forgot something. RAW, monks aren't proficient with unarmed attacks, but RAI they certainly are. A lot of times the rules themselves don't allow something that they obviously should, so this is where you interpret them for yourself rather than stick to the RAW interpretation.

Because if everyone thinks that they will get ninja'ed, noone will post the information...

Natter: with all due respect, it's probably no more your acronym than anyone else's. When RAW and RAI float around all the time, "make sense" is a pretty common next step, with the corresponding acronym to accompany it.

Just a bit of nostalgia there because I once had a friend who claimed he "invented" the acronym "lol". Like, seriously. :smallsigh:

A bit off topic, but your signature is wrong; it should be: 3.14159265358979323846264338327950

I understand that. I was just playing with the standard ninja'd edit.

Thank you for the correction (I didn't realize I've been wrong all this time:smalleek:). I was right about RAW and RAI.
Thank you for the links.
