Feats: Exotic Armor proficiency (Mountain Plate), then Extra Toughness.
Race: Any with Con Bonus
Class: Preferably Fighter for the extra AC from Mountain Plate, and the additional Extra Toughness Feats. By level 15 this totals 210 HP on feats alone.

If this is a build concept, it's not very good. Toughness sucks, and the only halfway (barely even that) decent hp-increasing feat was Imp. Toughness, which gave 1 hp per HD, but then turned out to suck because it could only be taken once.

Really, hp builds are the most difficult to come across. Your best bet is to ramp constitution so much that you go blind, or look to homebrew material, where you actually have a reasonable chance to find something that increases hp.

Course, for WotC build advice: Dragonborn Mongrelfolk with the Obese vile feat for +8 to start at LA 0, add on Mineral Warrior for +4 more, adding up to +12 con off the bat, not to mention some good tanking qualities, and this is only LA 1. Probably will get the DM to throw a book at you, though.

That, with an 18 in con to start, will result with 30 con at ecl 2. As you gain levels, get a +5 tome of con, sink 5 levelling points into con, and pick up a +6 con item, for 46 total. Drop a single level into Barbarian, get rage for a total of 50 con while raging. With d12 HD, that's 502.5 hp off the bat.

Sorry, wrong word, meant improved, not extra.

That's disgusting. The best I've ever found any way of getting was 420 HP at level 20.

If traits are allowed, taking "slow" will halve your speed but give you another +1hp per level. If dragon magazine is allowed, being an arctic mongrel folk is another +2 con for +0 LA. Once you have this high HP total your time and class/feat choices would be better spent finding ways to make enemies attack you instead of anyone else. Being a meat tank is pointless if the enemy has no reason to fight you instead of your allies.

It's sad because Toughness isn't a fighter feat. :smallsigh:

Improved Toughness is. I think. Besides, it really should be by merit alone, and just about every DM I've played in PnP with has agreed to make it a Fighter feat, not to mention to making it multi-takeble. So I could theoretically end up with...
{table]level | fighter | level bonus |Total
1|x|x|2
2|x|-|3
3|-|x|4
4|x|-|5
5|-|-|5
6|x|x|7

8|x|-|8
9|-|x|9
10|x|-|10

(Variable +1 human) as many as 19 improved toughness'. Coming to 380 bonus HP off of feats alone. Assuming it doesn't go epic of course.

Course, that is spending more feats than you can shake a stick at on nothing more than a vertical increasing of your hp. Can you say 'no PrCs', 'no optimization', and 'no reach' clearly enough? If you can dip 2 levels (add Artic on there too), and wind up with a pretty much secured 52 con, in the end, you can spend those feats on more useful purposes, such as Shock Trooper or Power Attack.

Then again, if the purpose of this is merely a mental exercise to see just how high you can get your hp to go, then that's an entirely different game.

Then again, when you reach epic levels theres this nice little feat called Fast Healing, which makes it so you gain fast healing at an extreme rate. Going your route, plus mine and you'll have a really, really nice Fast Healing. Plus huge HP, you could even get Immunity to all diseases and poisons: Supernatural, Magical and Mundane. At level 40 one of my characters had thousands of HP and Fast Healing 39.

Yes, overall it is a mental exercise. geared towards that purpose.

Fast Healing 39 at level 40 is pretty useless at level 40.

Someone needs some sleep. :smallwink: Double-take!

Unless that was meant to be like that meme-like thing.

Even with these assumptions, you may as well multiclass into the variants. Martial wizard, martial rogue, the monk variant that can pick FBFs instead of monk ones (dragon mag?), and psywar. Lets see:

{table]level | fighter | level bonus |Total
1 ftr|x|x|2
2 ftr|x|-|3
3 Rg|x|x|5
4 Rg|x|-|6
5 Mk|x|-|7
6 Mk|x|x|9
7 Pw|x|-|10
8 Pw|x|-|11
9 wiz|x|x|13
10 ftr|-|-|13
11 ftr |x|-|14
12 ftr|-|x|15
13 ftr|x|-|16
14 ftr|-|-|16
15 ftr|x|x|18
16 ftr|-|-|18
17 ftr|x|-|19
18 ftr|-|x|20
19 ftr|x|-|21
20 ftr|-|-|21
Assuming human without flaws that would be 22 Improved toughness feats. You lose a max of 18Hp from the different class choices, which is more than made up by even 1 extra improved toughness. Also, you get class features! Hmm... are there any other classes that grant a fighter bonus feat at level 1?

Alright, starting from the base up: There's the obvious level 1 core structure, An Artic Mineral Warrior Dragonborn Mongrelfolk. Make this be an evil character as well, to grab Willing Deformity (Obese) and take the Slow trait. Putting an 18 into con, and there's a basic starting point.

{table=head]Level|Class|Base Attack Bonus|Feats|Total HP|Special

1|LA|--|--|--|--

2|Barbarian|+1|Willing Deformity|26|Rage (+4 str & con), Fast Movement (Cancels Slow)

3|Psychic Warrior|+1|Improved Toughness|51.5|Vigor (5 temp hp per manifester level)

4|Psychic Warrior|+2|Improved Toughness, Willing Deformity (Obese)|83|Expansion (Large Size comes in handy)

5|Psychic Warrior|+3|--|109.5|Burst (+10 foot speed again, counterbalance the slow trait)

6|Psychic Warrior|+4|--|136|Dimension Swap (nothing better for a tank than getting in the enemies face)

7|Psychic Warrior|+4|Improved Toughness, Improved Toughness|174.5|Empathic Transfer (also good for tank)

8|Psychic Warrior|+5|--|203|Hustle (Never pass up Hustle)

9|Psychic Warrior|+6/+1|--|256.5|Vampiric Blade (Yeah, try and keep his damage up), Amulet of Health +6

10|Psychic Warrior|+7/+2|Improved Toughness, Improved Toughness|307|Empathic Feedback (Eh)

11|Fighter|+8/+3|Improved Toughness|345.5|--

12|Fighter|+9/+4|Improved Toughness|385|--

13|Bonus Rogue|+9/+4|Improved Toughness, Improved Toughness|456.5|Trapfinding

14|Bonus Rogue|+10/+5|Improved Toughness|479|Evasion

15|Bonus Wizard|+10/+5|Improved Toughness|522.5|A wad of first level spells, pick what you want.

16|Bonus Monk|+10/+5|Improved Toughness, Improved Toughness|631|Flurry of Blows, Unarmed Strike, Manual of Bodily Health +5

17|Bonus Monk|+11/+6/+1|Improved Toughness|685.5|Improved Evasion

18|Fighter|+12/+7/+2|--|726|--

19|Fighter|+13/+8/+3|Improved Toughness, Iron Will|784.5|--

20|Warrior of Darkness|+14/+9/+4|--|846|Black Magic Oil [+1 con] (Gonna need Cha padding for this one)
There you go. Rough sketch, really, and it assumes being fully buffed (In Rage, after having dropped a fully augmented Vigor onto yourself), but results in a 846 hp build, if taking average hp.
