So first off, an unnecessary education of what inspired me to bring up this thread:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VDvgL58h_Y
and the sequel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9-faa56l-s&feature=channel

Have you had similar experiences in your games? Something that constantly comes up and proves to be a general annoyance (though not -incredibly- harmful or lethal), but can't be gotten rid of?

Additionally/alternatively, how would you incorporate such things, or stat them up (whether they be traps, creatures, items, etc.)? Or how were they incorporated in your games?

If you have already done it, how did the party deal with it?

I had the opportunity to include one, but dropped it for this very reason.

At level 1, the characters encountered a shadow and fled...and gave away the only weapon they had that could hurt it. I could have it catch up to them but...they'd move on, it'd slowly follow and be "unstoppable" given their current equipment. So, yeah, it'd both be silly and become too much of a focal point to the campaign.

If the latter is what you're looking for, I still think that too many battles ending in retreat would be frustrating to a group, but I could be wrong.
