…I know next to nothing about them.
Can anyone identify these? The picture was taken along the Kancamagus Highway, in New Hampshire - the butterflies were pretty widespread, so they're probably a common species.

After a bit of searching on the internet, here are two links I found that mostly match your picture.
Red-spotted Purple or White Admiral (http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/species?l=1785&chosen_state=33*New Hampshire)
White Admiral (http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/species?l=1787&chosen_state=33*New Hampshire)

Heh, glad the Druid here stepped in, I dare say she is correct... saw this last night and let me tell you at 4am I can't remember butterfly names. :smalltongue:

Well, I was at work with plenty of time, so I found a site and systematically went through the pictures one at a time until I found similar ones.

We get these butterflies at the St. Louis Zoo Insectarium where I work. The butterfly as Druid pointed out is a White Admiral.
I'm pretty sure that the male is the one butterfly with the white blotches, and the female i the one without them.
Hope this helps.
