Poor d12. So maligned, so misunderstood. (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0121.html)

Of the six common dice, the d12 is the one that definitely seems to get the least use. So, help me out - what are some ways to actually use the d12 in a gaming session?

1. Greataxe. Duh.
2. The Barbarian and Knight hit die. I'd play one of these classes just for the chance to roll a d12 (though even that couldn't convince me to play Dragon Disciple :smalltongue:).
3. Rainbow Blast (SpC) will let you roll FIVE of these babies. Very satisfying.

4. Warblade hp

5. Calculating your Half-Orc's Height (4“10” +2d12)

6. Control Weather spell duration

7. Undead hit points

You can add Warblade, Frenzied Berserker, Dragon Disciple, Bear Warrior, and probably others I've missed to the list of d12 hit die classes.

Persisted Ice Axe! It uses two (2) d12s! Also probably not a good idea to use in most games.

Combine the following two feats:

Action Boost (ECS)
Psionic Luck (MoE)

Now you roll d12s when you spend action points instead of d6s :smalltongue:

Heh. Come to think of it, with a D12, who needs a D4 or a D6 either? And with a D20, who needs a D10? :smallwink:

Nope, that was d10.

Is it possible that it was the Master Samurai from Sword & Fist, then? I really seem to remember a d12 samurai somewhere.

This is correct. In addition, seeing that class and the OAdv version, I wonder HOW the designer suggested the CW one.

The former two are not uber, but a downgrade is a downgrade.

It depends on the setting you use, but I don't think most people go into that much detail and just default to a day/night system with a calendar which is essentially ours, with months, weeks, and everything the same length and spacing.

I think Eberron has a 13 month year, or used to have one and lost one of the months (as is common for that setting).

Beat me to it. It also offers NO SAVE.

Great Spell. Divine-Meta Maximize that ish for 180 Damage a shot (though that defeats rolling the d12s) and you're doing serious damage to the righ types of creatures at a reasonable level to do so... (12th Level w/ +3 CL Maxxes it - and 180 Damage at L12 is NICE).

Since everyone in our old gaming group had an entire set of dice, we would use the d12 as PC miniatures, with the side up indicating initiative order, and each die understood to represent the person to whom it belonged iRL.

Totally did this, too!!! Except, most of the the dice were mine and the number facing up designated the character, not the initiative. Other dice were bad guys. I love the d12. Dodecahedron is the coolest word ever.
