I am creating a character for a game starting at level four. I am using the lichhttp://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8535643&postcount=427 improved monster class for the undead traits (DM let me take the first level now, second level when I qualify). The unfortunate problem here is that my character currently has an armor class of nine. Seeing as I intend to gain power through roleplay almost exclusively (I am taking the sworn (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=117812) class and am banking on "non-combat encounters"), is it truly necessary to have a non-zero chance of my opponent missing due to my armor chance? Is it possible for my character to survive to level twelve (when I get a phylactery, thus rendering death in combat rather...trivial) with this disadvantage? Is there any way to efficiently increase my survivability using no more than 3500 of my starting gold (I expect to need a lot of gold for bribes and whatnot)?
In short, does a "diplomat" (It is an evil campaign) benefit sufficiently from armor class so as to make it worthwhile to invest in?
