First: D'aw, cute babies.

Second: Rabbit, in that first picture it looks like you're waggling your eyebrows suggestively. This amuses me greatly, and I don't see why you put "un" in front of "attractively" while referring to any of those pictures.

Third: Naoto, name the bear Blue Dynamite!
Actually... He'd need to be a former CIA agent, years of martial arts training and a stuffed bear to keep in his house. And he'd need to have a bunch of women. So, Blue Dynamite may not be quite right. But it would still be an awesome name.

See my sport (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuUMyw-XXMs). (I have the shortspear.)

Your sport looks like absurd amounts of fun. I wish to all that's good and decent that there were any groups like that in Milwaukee. Dagohir, I mean, rather than full-blown SCA. I don't need the politics, just the exercise and fun.

It's been a very long time since I've dropped in with a picture, so now you get two. Here's me after my first time Whitewater kayaking, up in Wausau WI. My wife and I do a lot of flat water kayaking, but these tiny little boats and the crazy river made for a very fun day.

Clearly your friend has no idea at all as to how to face a spear. He hardly ever left your killing zone and never once got into range for his weapon to be effective.

Eh, no offense to Maeglin_Dubh, but it seems a bit hokie. After having fought full speed and full contact for years I couldn't go back to that kind of fighting.

As for politics, people make politics, not a group. I've seen as much politics in Ampguard and other things like that as anywhere else. And I went to the SCA constantly for years without getting involved in the politics there.

I really wish there was an SCA group going here now... its been too long since I've got to fight (well since I moved I've only got to go to a few wars).

Dagorhir -is- full speed and full contact. More full contact than SCA, by definition, since grappling is fully legal. I tend to pull my shots when fighting smallsword or spear, since getting stabbed in the gut is no fun.

Video here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbPeZ7mudhQ&feature=related) is a bit faster/harder. Unfortunately, all the videos of me fighting are usually of me against one of our new people, and you are correct, Wuster didn't know how to close on a spear.

All else being equal, though, I went Dag instead of SCA because of the SCA requirement to have a full suit of armor to even consider heavy list fighting. Pretty inconvenient on a college budget.

And to be fair, Dag and SCA both have their drama/politics. You just have to learn to avoid it.

EXPLANATIONTIMEGO!

The sculpture is there to represent the centenary anniversary of Sandy Lodge Golf Club in Bushy just outside London. You know, one of those expensive golf clubs where rich people play golf and talk about putting techniques over tea. Anyway, about a year and a half ago (or more) when I first met with some of the people who run the club, they said that they wanted something that wasn’t too “traditional” but “modern” instead. I went away and after a couple of weeks I came back with one style and two designs.

http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x203/tomshaer/statue1-1.png

http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x203/tomshaer/statue2-1.png

These were supposed to be 6ft 3D metallic sculptures coated in two-tone paint. I made some life-sized models out of wood as well. At the same meeting, I also had a third model about 9-10 ft of the sculpture you see in the photos. (Only made out of wood and a lot bigger.) They didn’t like my second design I showed of the golfer coming out of the ground (Can’t imagine why :P) but they did like my first design and my third model. They decided that they liked my third model idea. When we met up again a few weeks later, I made several small models and material ideas from stones to grass. One of my favourite, which also seemed to be there favourite was a limestone (9ft of which would be over ground, the rest buried under the ground) with the 6ft cut out of the golfer. There wasn’t supposed to be a plinth, instead it was supposed to be directly coming out of the grass in the club in a sort of Stonehenge fashion. I even did technical drawings for it by hand which took me the best part of a day, but for I believe was financial and practical reasons, they eventually asked for it to be made from sandstone and for the size to be reduced. I didn’t know anything about the plinth until towards the end.

We ended up with this:

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs015.ash2/34126_433511894858_641229858_5655315_8220158_n.jpg

And this is how we got it too stand up:
http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x203/tomshaer/IMG-53.jpg
*scannerfail*

Basically, it’s numbers.

Anyways, the cut-out was done using a water jet and the inscription was done by hand. (not by me of course, I do not have teh skillz) Either way, I suppose the news paper article will look good in my portfolio. :smalltongue:

Well, I should have some costume photos up tonight to return the favor! ...Though I'm not sure how many photos of myself I actually got. Lots and lots of waterfalls, though, do you like waterfalls?

Deth Muncher can has new apartment! But can also has multitude of problems!

If you really care, you can look at the list of problems I sent to my landlord. The first set is things he needs to fix, the second is things it'd be cool if he fixed, and the third is stuff that he probably won't fix but needs to know about anyway.

Hazards, either safetywise or healthwise.
-The front and back gates to the alley do not lock or close. This is a potential safety hazard.
-The front door to the building itself also does not close or lock. Also a safety hazard.
-Both front rooms have non-opening windows. This is a fire hazard.
-The entire outer kitchen wall (the one with the stove) is coming apart - while that isn't so much a safety hazard, the foam that has been used to patch up around the cracks caused by this is severely toxic, and also friable - you poke it, the toxic dust goes everywhere. Not healthy to have anywhere in a house, but especially in the kitchen.
-Ants! There are ants everywhere, though mostly concentrated in the kitchen and back bedroom. They appear to be coming in through the back step, and also the heavily water-damaged wall. I would request, if at all possible, that if my Borax traps don't get rid of them, then if you could fumigate or hire an exterminator, that'd be great.

Pre-existing damages.
-The back wall of the kitchen - the one with the stove - is heavily water damaged, and the wall is both delaminating and disintegrating. What is worse is this seems to be spreading to the bathroom as well. Also, ants have taken advantage of the weakened wall and are coming in by the stove on the counter, adding to the damage.
-The front bedroom's door has a large crack in it.
-The outlet in the bathroom by the sink is falling out of the wall.
-There is a crack above the transom above the door in the kitchen.
-The bathroom door also has a small crack in the bottom.
-The back bedroom has two cracked windows.
-The front door to the apartment scratches the floor, leaving a rut.

Other things.
-The light in the first room does not work - unknown if it is the fixture or lightbulb.
-The air filters are badly in need of changing.
-The light above the sink in the kitchen does not work - unknown if it is the fixture or lightbulb.
-Unable to check the smoke alarms due to height.
-None of the doorbells are functional.
-The front room's deadbolt does not work.
-The closet lights in both front rooms are burnt out.

I use both kilos and pounds. A kilo is roughly 2.2 pounds in standard Earth gravity, give or take. The conversion the other way isn't as nice and easy, so I left off the math for the conversion to proper units.

Dallas-Dakota - Looks like a fun night was being had, anything exciting?

And I'm sorry about this guys, but I'm breaking down and asking, facial-hair or no?

Clean shaven Stadge and, just scruffy looking Stadge:
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs508.snc3/26713_441660605319_639080319_6327869_3377503_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs106.snc3/15331_194390228204_547823204_2969589_4776170_n.jpg

Vaguely beardy Stadge (picture you ma have seen before, but I can supply a slightly more ridiculous looking photo if needed):
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs261.ash1/18877_240651445896_583185896_3163986_166141_n.jpg

So again, I'm sorry for bringing back the issue of beardliness, but I'd be over the moon if I could get a couple of opinions as to which work's better. Cheers.

Oh and on the weight stuff, I use stones, but can't really estimate them, and kilos just completely confuse me. Actually not a measurement person really, I have only vague ideas of temperatures regradless of what unit is used :smalleek:

@Stadge. I'm not sure. Clean-shaven is not a great photo of you, so it's a bit difficult to judge. Scruffy and bearded both look good, but I think I'd go with scruffy/better-photographed-clean-shaven (Though it'll be a bit better with a bit of stubble).

Yeah, I've seen that. It's epic. :smalltongue:

Anneta Nightwish has three songs I like. Bye Bye Beautiful, Amaranth and The Islander (In which Anneta hardly sings in). Those are awesome songs. Everything else is pretty standard Melodic Metal.
As far as I’m concerned; opera, symphony, power, epic and Metal rolled into one is far better then some standard Metal with some melody.
I mean, have you listened to Anneta sing live? It's pretty poor. Especially when she tries to sing Tarja songs... >.<

Annette's stuff can be pretty generic. But the huge steaming river of cheese flowing from some of the tarja stuff can really only be attributed to Tuomas and Tarja (which for the record, would be an amazing title for a romantic comedy) having some deep seated hatred of the lactose intollerant.

Ah, but you're forgetting one thing. Tarja has a MUCH better voice which was suited for the bands songs and image. Anneta's pseudo-pop vocals does not. Meaning the band completely transformed their image and style from something original to a generic rock style for her sake. While Anneta is far from a bad vocalist, she doesn't live up to what Nightwish once was.

As operatic style metal singers go though, Tarja isn't that high on the list in my opinion. Simmone Simmons, the girl from Within Temptation, The female vocalist from Kivimetsan Druidi, and Bruce Dickenson (sort of) are superior in her style of vocals I would say.

It's my opinion, but Annete can't really withstand comparing to Tarja...

It's a matter of education, if only, Tarja is professional soprano, AFAIR while Anette is just... some singing chick.

Nameless may be onto something with "general change of style" as even without vocals, "Last of The Wilds" is pretty meh compared to " Moondance " IMHO. :smallwink:

I've always thought that girl from Within Temptation had a pretty dull voice. And white Dickinson's voice is awesomely amazing, and operatic in style, I wouldn't really call it an opera voice. Simmone Simmons also has a fantastic voice, however, Tarja's vocals have a more traditional opera quality.

Never seen the appeal of Larping to be honest... I'd never be caught dead swinging a foam or whatever sword... A real sword just feels so much nicer in the hand.

Sure. Until you hit your friend in the head with your 40 inch blade
Foam swords let's everyone, not only trained reenacters be the heroes
Also, it's role play driven. In 3 days, I had maybe 3 battles
