This thread is dedicated to Amy-schmamey.http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-ash1/v361/0/62/1030392692/n1030392692_30182152_5287.jpg

I think it's pretty self-evident what this thread's for. Pets. Discuss them.

My Moses:http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h287/serpentine16/photos/DCP_9033.jpgis well. He got a slit taken out of his ear recently, which was nice and bloody. I also found a claw imbedded in his back. He's mummy's li'l tuffy. If I ever refer to myself as "mummy" again, you may kick me in the shins.

My Boy's Scout:http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs047.snc3/13467_1442459334727_1030392692_31309816_1305988_n. jpgis a total brat. You can't leave anything out, cuz he'll get into it - even a loaf of bread in a plastic bag. He's like a rat. We think he might be the son of a "stray" we took in for a while, 'til her owner turned up. We called her Tessa:http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h287/serpentine16/photos/DCP_9035.jpgAlso we're much better owners, donchano.

I got myself a Dagobah frog terrarium all set to get a tadpole... right at the end of tadpole season :smallsigh: But my Boy practically tripped over frogs all the time on his way from work, so he caught me Jeremiah, the humongous banjo frog:http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs162.snc4/37439_1442460134747_1030392692_31309823_2155460_n. jpgHis crickets are very soothing.

Most recently (and the prompt for this thread), my Boy decided that he wanted to try to breed his Siamese fighting fish. I bought myself a female on the coast and called her Boudica. I settled her in her bowl, then we tried her in with Rocky. He showed off to her a bit and made a bit of a bubble nest, but then pretty much ignored her and let the nest dissolve. Just because I wanted to, and cuz I thought it'd be nice to have two females in the one bowl, I bought myself another female. She's called Alecto. But... I put her in the bowl, then we took Boudica back to try again with Rocky later. Boudica - previously moderately bright-finned - has gone dull grey, while Alecto, quite a large fish, has gone from grey-with-red-fins to full-blown brilliant scarlet and is flaring up and chasing Boudica all around the bowl (I think she's getting away enough to have a rest, and if she ever decides to go into it she's got some places to hide, but I'm keeping an eye on how she's faring). Most interestingly, there appears to be a distinct bubble nest on the water.
So... Did I accidentally buy a shortfin male? Regardless, it is amusing that my female appears to be more man than my Boy's male :smallamused:

Finally, I would very much like to own a snake some day. Is there such a thing as a friendly one?

I have a kitty. He's a very cute kitty, very fluffy, very sooky, and occasionally stupid (he tried to climb a rose bush)

Oo, very pretty. Moses stayed with my sister while I was in college. A dog of a friend chased him up a rather tall tree. It was obvious he was well and truly stuck - he meowed and tried to come down a bit when I went there, and when I offered him food, but couldn't get far. He was there for a whole weekend, until my sister got a friend of hers to bring round a tree-pruning crane. He was rather thin and hungry.

I used to have a fire bellied toad.

After a while she just stopped eating and we couldn't do anything about it.:smallfrown:

My family currently owns a cockatiel but we don't have any other pets. My mom is allergic to most others.

However, if we're talking about pets we'd like to have I have a big list.

One day I'd like to get a nice, wise looking longhair cat, and keep him on my chair arm for thoughtful petting. 'Til then though, we have a whole lot of cats roaming around our property, but we don't really own them -- we just feed them and they do amusing things.

I have a ton of pets currently. I've got four cats, and a leapord gecko.
My families first cat is a fattish black one that sneezes a lot and's Jeter, :roach:the next one is a small gray one named Fuzzball. Even though she's an adult she still acts like a kitten. She's also a girl. The third cat is a female black cat, named Katie, and she steals all things small. The final cat is a long-haired black and white cat named Tony. My lizard is really old (like as in too old to be able to catch crickets any more) and she's named Ishkabibble.

*quietly sneaks into forum via back door*

Currently just got the one cat, Wildheart Wakanda CaraMac (who by cat-name-mutation, answers to the name of Mitten). She's a little sweetie and a complete cush who hides under the bed if anyone strange comes into the house.

http://i799.photobucket.com/albums/yy277/HellfireLover/DSC00336.jpg

She's a snow marble Bengal and was born with a congenital chest deformity commonly known as FCKS. You'd never know it by the way she hoons around the house like a looney thing. Her favourite trick is 'fishing' with her paw from under the footboard of the bed. No toe is safe. The birds and bats outside annoy her and she will sit and chatter at them for hours.

Here she is as a kitten with her dearly departed 'brother' Rockytop Sirocco Breeze, bless his little paws.

http://i799.photobucket.com/albums/yy277/HellfireLover/S6000388.jpg

He was the most content cat on earth, and so friendly. Mitten followed him around everywhere. I miss the little bugger so much.

The pink fluffy thing in both pics is a beanie dog, which Mitten alternates between grooming and killing.

I haven't got a picture of him handy, but the only dog I would really consider "mine" would have to be Sammy- A beagle/Something else mix. He was all brown except for his muzzle, belly, paws and under his tail, with just a speck of black on top of his curled-up tail. I truly miss him. :smallfrown:

We also had a Black Lab named Leapchaun. She was sweet, but I didn't really relate to her much. And we had a cat named Noel, but while he had all the fluffiness of a cat, he had all the tender sweetness of a seasick crocodile. ;p No pictures of either, unfortunately.

For a more modern-day cat, meet Lionel Oliver Lambert-My sister's adorable kitty.

Cute pets!

I don't have a pet, currently, but I've had several in the past. Let's see... I've had guppies, goldfish, anoles, frogs, (none of these previous pets lasted long as I was young and dumb and didn't know how to properly care for them all that well, though I tried) newts, a gerbil, a hamster named Schmoo, a golden lab named Snooper who couldn't be controlled at all, unfortunately, as he kept running away and even fences and leashes couldn't stop him and my parents eventually had to "give him away to a farm."

I also had two wonderful cats: Greta a little black kitty who was rescued as the malnourished runt from a house full of cats and grew big and strong afterwards; and Abercrombie, a fluffy, tempermental, awesome, and huge Maine **** cat who was a birthday gift that I got from a local animal shelter as a little kitten and whom I absolutely loved.

My ex wife made me put both the cats to sleep. "It's them or me," she had said. And no, giving them away wasn't good enough for her. Hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life.

Serpentine, to breed the Siamese Fighting fish... the male seems to be doing well in this. Does the female have vertical stripes on her body? If she doesn't, she's not ready. I know some of this (the theory, that is), if you'd like to know a bit more about it.

As for pets... I have some bettas. I don't have pics of them at the moment. They're gorgeous little critters. I am sad, though, that I lost some of them to something... really nasty in the water. Some of them survived (but not in great shape) and they've been doing okayish since. I am hoping they'll recover soon. I also have a wildcat in a housecat's body. She's all cute and such.

I know some of this (the theory, that is), if you'd like to know a bit more about it.She has the white groin-spot, but not the lines as far as I can see (though she gets pretty bold length-wise ones). But at the moment, we're having more issues with the male/s. If you know your stuff a bit, do you have any idea why the "female"'s bubbles are fine in my bowl, but the male's bubbles, and the "female"'s we transfer over to his tank dissolve away?

The horizontal lines are known as "stress stripes". The're just what it says on the tin. That'd also be why the female is pale in color. Also... to tell for sure if it's a female... you should be able to see a large, liver-shaped organ inside the female, but not the male. That'd be the ovary. If she's pale now, it's a good chance to see it.

That the bubbles are dissolving is kind of weird. Is there a current, like with a filter or something? Maybe the water is too hard? Bettas do best in somewhat soft water.

I currently have three cats. And well to be honest I'm a huuuuuge cat person. It's kind of sad sometimes. ^^"

The oldest one his name is Gunnar. He turned 12 last December (on the 12th!). He's got a split tongue because as a kitten he somehow managed to cut it in half. We still don't know how he did it, but we found him covered in blood. Gunnar is just a sweet old cat who has the soul privilege of leaving the house to go on a walk around the neighborhood. I sadly don't have any pictures of him as a kitten on my computer, but here are some other ones.
http://i646.photobucket.com/albums/uu186/Jade_5/Cat%20pictures/DSC_0056.jpg
He just loves posing for the camera.

Gunnar being a sweet, but lazy, old cat.
http://i646.photobucket.com/albums/uu186/Jade_5/Cat%20pictures/IMG_0936.jpg
He also loves my slippers.

Luna is my little, but moody, sweetheart. She's the only cat I've met who can't climb. When she was a kitten she couldn't even jump. She turned 3 last May and was the first 'third' cat we've had in this family. My father didn't want more then 2 cats. She's a real scaredy cat and doesn't like strangers.
http://i646.photobucket.com/albums/uu186/Jade_5/Cat%20pictures/DSC_0055.jpg
She was such an adorable little kitten. One big ball of fur.
http://i646.photobucket.com/albums/uu186/Jade_5/Cat%20pictures/IMG_0929.jpg
She's such a gorgeous cat now.
http://i646.photobucket.com/albums/uu186/Jade_5/Cat%20pictures/IMG_1049.jpg
Luna wondering why I'm pointing a camera at her.

And this is the youngest of the lot, about 1,5 now. Her name is Cleo and she's like a kid with ADHD on pure sugar (no offense). She bounces around, runs literally against the wall, but still has time to curl on your lap and cuddle with you. Her nickname is Frog Killer 2 (Luna being Frog Killer 1 in her kitten days) and Cleo is truly the MOST smartest cat I've -ever- had. Knows how to unlock doors, knows what strategies are, how to use a mirror. Also gets the concept of 'if you stay in the yard, you won't have to go inside'. It's too bad I probably will never find a cat like her again.
http://i646.photobucket.com/albums/uu186/Jade_5/Cat%20pictures/DSC026931.jpg
This was the picture we got from her previous owner.
http://i646.photobucket.com/albums/uu186/Jade_5/Cat%20pictures/_DSC8877.jpg
This is pretty much a common occurrence around the house. When the door was removed she flew against the door like normal and then just slid down when she smacked against it. Smart but can't see debt I guess.
http://i646.photobucket.com/albums/uu186/Jade_5/photographs/House/IMG_0303.jpg
I swear she poses for the camera every single time.

And here's a picture of Loedertje, nicknamed Lulu. She's passed away for a while now, but she was -my- cat you know? Though she could be very aggressive and moody towards everybody, to me she was pretty nice.

I'll try to look for that organ, but I don't really know what I'm looking for.
There's no current, no filter. Hard water is a possibility, I guess, but both tanks have been filled from the same water system. Could the stuff I put in to change the pH - or the pH itself - be significant?

I've got two little keets, and my evil ploy is that once I've got my own space I'll invest in either a Rat or a Cockatoo, or possibly a cat or smaller dog. I know most people call small dogs yappy, but if you assert a little discipline early they grow up perfectly well behaved (just firmly tell them "No!" when they start barking, or give them a little time out if they ignore you).

Snakes, eh? There are "Friendly" snakes: I seem to remember that Ball Pythons are generally considered personable, and I know my garter snake was never mean. But for the most part snakes are only friendly because they want your body heat: They'll curl up on you because you're warm rather than out of affection.

My ex wife made me put both the cats to sleep. "It's them or me," she had said. And no, giving them away wasn't good enough for her. Hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life.

:smalleek::smallfurious:

That's...That's horrible.

Agreed. No offense, Trog, but if someone told that to me, I'd know to kick her to the curb. I can't even...fathom what kind of person would actually force you to kill your pets. ;-( I just...I couldn't do it. That would be proof enough to me that I need to find someone else. (And harsher words that are best left unsaid.) *Big comfies to Trog* I'm truly sorry.

I've had cats my whole life. My parents had Tigger before I was born, so I always teased that I was actually the middle child, not the eldest. He lived to the ripe old age of 21 and died in my arms a couple of weeks before I started college. I'm not afraid to admit I bawled like a baby....

My family had tons of other cats, so I'll just stick to the more amusing stories. (After my big brother story, we probably need something more light-hearted.)

A stray cat adopted us. She was just a tiny slip of a gray kitty, so we named her Baby. Turns out, Baby was pregnant and had a healthy litter of kittens.

One of those kittens was a gorgeous sleek all black cat I named Noche. She was a girl..my little Spanish devil (I was the only one she liked)..until later in life when (surprise, surprise!) testicles dropped. My little girl was actually a little boy. Amusingly enough, Noche loved to sleep on my lap while I was watching M*A*S*H reruns. He'd only wake when Klinger (the cross-dressing character) was on.

I also had 'keets when I was younger. A lovely blue named Bastion and a full white named Belle. Daddy walked out half way to the bus stop to let me know they'd died during the day while I was at school. ;-( He didn't want me to just walk into with no warning.

Now that I'm living on my own, we have 4 (3) cats. Sineya is the eldest. Isis and Kahn are her two younger siblings. (Same mom, a year later litter.) And Ramses was given to us. Unfortunately, Kahn slipped outside (they're all indoor cats, the place is too close to a busy street) and hasn't come home yet. ;-(

I want pet rats! My mom threatens she'll never come see me again. She's terrified of mice and rats and ferrets (she thinks they're just big rats).

And one year, I got my Daddy a lovely German Shepard for father's day. He named her Seven after Star Trek's Seven of Nine and her "outstanding qualities" - yes, that does mean the dog is named after Jeri Ryan's chest.

Black tomcat, sleeping in my lap right now. Phenomenally cute. And dangerous.

No offense taken. And thanks for the sympathies. I think I may have posted this story once before on here and it got the same sort of reaction, iirc. At the time my oldest was a newborn so leaving would have had all sorts of other unpleasant repercussions.

Anyhow, that was all long ago and needless to say I've moved on to greener pastures and like to remember all the good times with the kitties instead of the unpleasant end. I rarely talk about it, so every now and then when people are going on about their pets I get reminded of the last ones I had.

I'd get another cat (despite being allergic to both cats and dogs) but my son has grown even more allergic than I am currently, it turns out, so he gets rather stuffed up and miserable when living with them. Something to look forward to in my empty nest years in the future I suppose.

Trog, look for cats that don't produce as much Fel D 1 (or something like that). It's a protein in the dander and saliva (which when gets on the fur) that prompts allergic reactions. If both y'all like kittehs, look up breeds like that. I think the Siberian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siberian_(cat)) is one.

I currently have one pet, an elderly dwarf hamster named Saffron. She's a mean little thing but I love her to death. She's about 2.5 years old now, we guess (I adopted her when we think she was a year old). Her already gray fur has got a distinct white tinge to her, the white on her chest has spread, and I recently noticed a tumor on her tummy as well as the fact that she is surprisingly thin.

I don't know if I'll be able to get another hammy after her. :smallfrown:

I've kinda adopted my boyfriend's parent's dogs- a beagle/husky mix whose a grumpy old woman and a bloodhound/something else mix whose a huge baby despite being 8 years old, lol.

I might also be acquiring a friends California King Snake when I move out. He doesn't want the snake anymore and offered me the whole set up for free (it used to be his wifes...he's a widower). They nicknamed him Carlos because "he kept jumping the border", lol. He was apparently an escape artist until they piled textbooks on the cage. But...ever since my yellow rat snake escaped about 10 years ago, my mom is adamant that no snake ever be in this house. I'd keep it at Oz's, but his dad is deathly frightened of snakes.

Serp, snakes aren't friendly per se, but they are interesting. Most snakes aren't actively mean. You mostly just have to acclimate them to being held, as well as keep them regularly fed.

catlover and I have a few pets...

Kenja http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i262/wxdruid/DSC06371.jpg
adopted him from the next door neighbor after coming back from Iraq in 2007

Rain http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i262/wxdruid/DSC06285.jpg
adopted from the humane society just last year

We also have a very old dwarf hamster named Blackie. Heather says I got him before I went to Iraq. He's getting very hunched over, white and skinny. Not sure how much longer the stubborn guy will last.

catlover has a leopard gecko. He eats crickets and lives in a tank in her room.

Outside, we have a bin of tadpoles growing into frogs. This is the third year we've done it.

My other pets are my plants. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i262/wxdruid/DSC06552.jpg
Most of them are various types of herbs.

I own pet chickens. Sorry, I'll get a picture of my chickens when I get back from vacation.

I have 29 chickens, about 10 of them baby chicks. I don't own a farm, and they're not livestock. They're pets. Nice pets. Fluffy pets. Cute pets; all that *beep*.

I can't stop saying awwwww. Every cat in this thread reminds me of Janie, a cat I used to have.

In order to cure the awwww I have to get her memory off of my chest, so here goes.

Janie was a cat brought off of the streets. Unlike all our cats however, she was rescued from under my friend's house instead of the Dumb Friends League or some other shelter. We were in need of a new cat, and my family felt sympathetic for her, so we brought her in, bathed her, set her in a private room untill she adjusted to the house, and then did the usual stuff with the vet.

It wasn't untill she was here a week untill I was aloud to see her. She was part Saimese, with brown stripes all over her tan coat. Her whiskers and eyebrows extended past her ears. She was polydactal, with her two front paws each having two extra toes. She was scratched and bruised and scruffy, a sign of her life as a stray.

My parents went into her room and were often bitten and hissed at. My little brother was terrified of the horrible cat-beast that lived in the basement. But when I went in, she nuzzled right up to me and purred so loud I could feel it in my heart. She lay there in my open arms and meowed like these horrible people had been assaulting her and she was so glad I was here. This is how Janie became my cat.

She slowly melowed out to the house. She became friendly with the rest fo my family, but they were never so in touch with Janie as I was. I could cradle her in my arms like a baby and she would fall asleep. Every night she went to bed on my pillow beside my head. She refused to let anyone else feed her or give her water. Once a week I would wake up seeing fur with a purring cat in my face. This is how it went for 6 months.

Progressively, Janie started gatting weaker. No one noticed untill we saw her ribs through her skin. She began to stumble and fall over. When she fell she didn't land on her feet. She began to eat less, and she stopped going to the litter box.

Nevertheless, Janie tried to go about her normal life. She still tried to love and purr like she did when she was healthy. She still slept with me and she was still my cat. One night she seemed to be getting better. She snuggled up beside me and went to sleep. The next morning, I found my cat had died.

We brought her to the vet. The time I sepnt there almost seemed like forever. We got her pawprint, extra toes and all, in a piece of clay. I was told she had died of kidney failure. I cried my eyes out, and then we left, leaving my cat there.

Janie was my cat, and I was her person. She clung to me when she could have chosen my mom or my family. Some pets come and go, being there because there's a place to fill, and some pets arrive unexpectedly, and take a part of you with them as they go.

My ex wife made me put both the cats to sleep. "It's them or me," she had said. And no, giving them away wasn't good enough for her. Hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life.I can't believe I missed this  What on Earth was her reasoning? I'm not sure I would've been able to handle being in the same house as her after that...

Past pets, eh? In approximate chronological order (but no pictures):

Weasel was the part-Siamese who I think was older than me. When we moved house she ran away twice, and the second time we didn't get her back. I never saw her again, although my sister recently told me she saw her in some bushes or something, so I guess she lived wild for a while. Before she left, though, she had kittens in my bed, including:
Tigger, a ginger, who we kept but had to give away when we moved (from far western Victoria to north east New South Wales). Probably for the best: the van broke down on the way in the middle of nowhere in the middle of summer. It was hard enough for us, probably would've killed a cat.
Socks, Panther and one whose name I forget, whom we gave to friends. I believe one was run over, one went feral, and the third I think was still sort-of a pet last I heard.
They'd all be nearing 20 by now, though, so I'd be surprised if any are still alive.

For a while we had a puppy called Toby. He was a samoyed/labrador, I think. He was huge, and still a puppy. He could sit on 4ish-year-old me and I wouldn't be able to move. Also apparently he tried to rape me, though I don't remember that. On the other hand, he acquired a giant teddybear I still have somewhere. He was black with a white mark on his chest. At that time, my mother had her surgery in our house, so we had little old ladies and the like coming through our yard. They were generally promptly bowled over by a charging great black beast. In response, dad drove two poles more than a metre long into the ground at either end of the yard so that only a foot or less was above ground. He then attached a wire between them, and attached Toby on his lead to the wire, so he could run up and down the yard but not assault elderly patients. The dog pulled up both poles and ran around the yard with them. We ended up giving him to a farmer who shot him for chasing the sheep =/

Later, in high school, I owned budgerigars. The first one, Zif, I got when he was very young. I taught him to wolf whistle, and he'd hang out on my shoulder all the time. He was great. Then one day, I was eating porridge with him on my shoulder. He walked down my arm, onto my hand, onto the side of the bowl, and then *plop!* hopped in my breakfast, which was rather hot. I washed him off quickly, but I think the shock of the hot and then the quick switch to cold made him sick and he died a few days later :smallfrown:
The next bird I got was Smoky. I got him from the same people, but this time he was an adult already - they didn't have any young ones, and they didn't want this one. For good reason: he was a total jerk. Someone left the door open while his cage was open, and he flew away (unless Moses ate him).
The next and final was Sneak, called so because he hid under my hair a lot. He was nicer than Smoky, but not as nice as Zif. I don't even know what happened to him, he just got a bit sick one day and was dead the next.

On my fish: both male and "female" have made nice bubble nests.

Story of how I got Moses: We had visited some friends who were breeding ferrets. I really wanted one, but mum really didn't. So she agreed to get me a cat for my 13th birthday, instead. After a while she found out that someone she vaguely knew had kittens. So we went on a rather long drive to see them. I knew ahead of time that there were a bunch of tabbies and a black one. I figured I'd get a black one, cuz black's cooler. When we got there, we discovered that there was a kids' party in full swing. As a result, the kittens were all totally freaked out and ran away right away. I couldn't even get close to the black one. Then I spotted a tabby hiding behind an armchair. I reached down to pick him up, and he proceeded to maul my hand. As soon as I held him, though, he fell fast asleep. I decided it was the perfect mix of playful and peaceful, and he was mine.
In the car, we were trying to think of what to name him. There's a story that tabbies got the "M" on their foreheads from a Certain Religious Figure. Being on a bit of an Other Religion kick at the time but liking the idea, we thought we'd give him an M name of Our Religion. I think we were tossing up between Moses (obviously) and something like Matthew. Before taking him home, we went to the local pub for dinner. There I showed off my cat and told people about the name dilemma. A drunk guy liked the name "Moses", so that's what we decided on.
And now he's my Moses ^_^ And it's surprising how many cats have the same name... I think I know of at least 2 others.

In her defense, the 2nd & 3rd pic were taken back before she was spayed. She used to act...really weird...when she was in heat. Lots of weird noises, rubbing herself on stuff, and flopping around.

As for the box pics, I got nothing. :smalltongue: She loves boxes and if you leave one laying around she'll try to squeeze herself in no matter how small the box/opening. :smallcool:

Some pets come and go, being there because there's a place to fill, and some pets arrive unexpectedly, and take a part of you with them as they go.

...Okay, who else cried a little after reading that? Seriously :smallfrown:

Anyway, yeah. My cats.

http://i1001.photobucket.com/albums/af132/starfols/DSCN0678.jpg Dexter, the other cat. He's half Siamese and half Ragdoll, and purrs the loudest of any cat I know. He's also dumb as a brick, and a massive coward. :smallsigh:

As for the box pics, I got nothing. :smalltongue: She loves boxes and if you leave one laying around she'll try to squeeze herself in no matter how small the box/opening. :smallcool:
Boxkitteh!
Do you take her for box rides? Like... act like the box is a little car? I always did that to my cats when they did that. They'd look around confusedly while being pushed around in the box as if to say "...should I have made a left back in the living room? :smallconfused: Hmmm.... perhaps I should check the map." :3

Dang this thread... these pretzels catpics/stories are making me thirsty want a cat again! D:

EDIT:

I can't believe I missed this  What on Earth was her reasoning? I'm not sure I would've been able to handle being in the same house as her after that...
Well there's a couple of things that were at work. One, she was going through a bout of severe post-partum depression. I tried to get her to seek help and she was all just "I am NOT crazy!!" :smallfurious:

On top of that Abercrombie, my big 24 lb. cat, liked to jump up into the crib when she was changing him. And the diversion of my attention from cat to baby... he didn't take well. Definitely displayed a jealousy towards my son and once he batted at him (declawed). I seem to recall my ex smacking him off the crib that time. So the cat was already on her **** list because of those kinds of things I guess. =/

Then we got fleas.

We actually got them from some vacuum cleaner salesman that she scheduled a visit with because she thought it would be a good idea to get a clean, shampooed carpet out of the deal if we sat through a demo, never intending to buy one. 9_9 Well the salesperson was at a house full of dogs earlier in the day and basically brought a whole ton of fleas to the house in the cleaner. It took us a bit to figure out that this was the cause, but my ex blamed the cats (who were indoor cats who never went outdoors and, in my mind, were pretty blameless and more victims, I'm sure, than we were). The fleas multiplied like crazy in a short period of time and by the time we noticed we had them (and were being bit :smalleek: ) they were all over. We couldn't even stay there. We had an exterminator in and he said it was the very worst case he had ever seen in his career. Like he got done with the place and had to, on the drive home, stop to strip out of his clothes because they were still all over him. :smalleek:

Anyway, he did his job well and the fleas were gone. The cats got dipped and were free of them too.

But I guess that wasn't good enough for her. :smallfrown:

I don't know, I was the type of person, at the time (and perhaps still a bit even to this day), who.. well who didn't feel like I could abandon my son for one thing. But on top of that I was so beaten down by her, mentally, as to believe anything she said about me so I didn't really think I ever had a chance of surviving on my own or of even being wanted by someone else or anything because I was... stupid and unattractive... so I stayed for years after that but the relationship was never the same afterward.

EDIT 2: @v Well yes, obviously I'm glad as well. :smalltongue:

Also, the animal shelter was full up and wasn't taking any more pets. There was a three week waiting period and she didn't want to wait. I tried to go the route of giving them away but that wasn't acceptable either. =/

A lot of those are pretty decent reasons to get rid of a cat, but to kill it, without even giving it the chance of an animal shelter? That's just disgusting.
Dunno about you, but I'm glad you're not with her anymore :smalltongue:

Oh, and I had a pretty bad infestation of fleas for a while. They got into the carpet and kept biting my feet. I could actually see a layer of eggs on Moses' favourite sitting spot. 'twere solved with many chemicals, tablets, collars and goings-over with a vacuum.

So remember how I posted yesterday that my cat Luna hates climbing and does no such thing? Well today she followed Cleo, who I said doesn't escape a lot, to the neighbors yard. Though Luna seemed to hate it and looked like she was happy to be back, Cleo decided to see if she could escape while I was watching. ^^"

I've never heard of snakes being bothered by other pets. Granted, I've only ever known one person that had a pet snake, but her family had a bunch of other pets, including dogs, cats, birds, horses...

As for my pets, I've posted pictures of them before, but here they are again.
Tammy was found and adopted by one of my brother's co-workers in a dumpster. My brother took her in when said co-worker moved into a new apartment that didn't allow pets. Then my brother moved into an apartment with a similar restriction and Tammy came to live with me. She does NOT like other cats, and the only reason Pandora is still around is that Tammy is too lazy to do anything but swipe and hiss at her when she gets close. Tammy also doesn't really like a lot of attention, but when I give her her evening meal she won't eat until I bend down and rub my forehead against hers. If you rub her belly, you will lose at least half your arm.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c355/Mangosta71/002.jpg

Pandora wandered to the house one night in November of 2008. She was about a month old. Took her in so she'd have some place out of the cold and rain for the night and fed her, then went all over the neighborhood trying to find her owner over the next week. When nobody claimed her, she moved in permanently. Pandora is energetic. She also doesn't learn quickly. I've gotten her trained so that she doesn't leave big bloody claw marks in me any more, at least. She is terrified of outdoors, and is just now getting to the point that she won't hide under the bed when company comes over until they've been gone for half an hour. She's still a bit skittish around strangers (ie, anyone that doesn't live in the house), though.

I've had a lot of pets (2 dogs, truckloads of fish, 6 hamsters, at least 1 lizard, etc.) not all at the same time, though. Anyway, for the record, all of the snakes I've ever met were friendly. I've never owned one, but I LOVE snakes and will own one when I'm living independently, to be sure. YAY reptilia!

Romeo. He was found on the side of the road by my mother's coworker, and her heart melted when she saw a picture of him. But don't be fooled! This dog has gone swimming with a 30 pound log attached to his leash, been hit by an oil truck and only had a bloody lip to show for it, and on at least 3 separate occasions I've had to chase him for a half hour straight before I could flying tackle him and put his leash back on.

*ahem*

I had a puppy. She was the most beautiful doggy in the world. She passed three years ago this november. I remember a lot about that day... I woke up to my mom telling me she had died. I didn't even get up, I just started aiming my friend Meagen, who made me feel heaps better. Then I moved her to the van and we drove up to my grandparent's where I burried her. After that I spent the day with my dad, eating Chinese food from Nugget Markets and watching the Colts vs Patriots in HD. The colts lost that game, but it was a fantastic game.

:smallfrown: I love you, Zoe.

My friend Steffy has a new doggy in the house! Her name is... something. Everyone calls her "ti-ti" though. She's about the size of a sheep dog, with grey spotted white fur and beautiful blue eyes. She thinks she's a lapdog and if steffy's parents didn't want her to be untrained, I would totally let her be a lapdog.

We heard these horror stories about how terrible she is or whatever, but she is the SWEETEST THING EVER! She was pulled from the streets in Afghanistan and now she's a beautiful doggy who absolutely is the sweetest thing EVER.

Oh and ifyou're looking for rats, I know a reputable breeder! Just let me know via PM!

Speaking of breeding, we have success! Boudica and Rocky are gettin' busy with gusto. When we got up she was dropping about 3 eggs at a time, but now there's ten or so in a go. He's missed a few, but not many. Dunno where we're gonna put the young ones... And we're gonna end up with a lot of tank heaters.
So... Who wants a few dozen Siamese fighting fish?

First off is my pride and joy and more or less the love of my life (not like romantic love, ew), Gus. He's a registered Russian Arabian gelding under the name On The Town... I don't know how they came up with "Gus" as a nickname, but it suits him. He's 24 years old and acts like he's 2, so I'm not too sure if I'll have to retire him anytime soon. :smallamused: I've been leasing and loving him for 4 years, and the owner bought a new horse and just sold him to me back in February  I haven't had a happier day in my life. So here's my boy:

We've cleaned up the field by now, too; that was back when we first moved them in and the previous landowners hadn't done anything with the field. Granted, he misses the piles of branches because he liked jumping over them.

This is the best pic I have of him. Back before he turned his bright red halter to a darker shade of dirt... :smallamused:

Next is my cat, Whiskers... or just Whisk... My mom bought her for me as a Christmas present 10 years ago when she was just a kitten and we've been almost inseparable ever since. She follows me everywhere -- seriously, I can take her for walks like a dog without a leash. We've explored the entire forest behind my house together, just hours out in the woods with just the two of us. She also sleeps with me every night and more or less does her best to bother the heck out of me during the day. At the moment, she is using my lap as a catbed. Also, she loves getting her picture taken, but I'll only share two and spare you the hundreds I have:

My mom has a cat, too, but her cat doesn't really like me and I don't have any pictures of her. Her name is Cricket, though.

Finally, my mice. The first was Mozart:

...but he died just a few months ago. He was over a year old, though. My next two are Tas and Tribble. Tribble died soon after we got him because he was so small and weak, but I loved him anyway. He was pitch black. Tas is white (I named him after Tasslehoff from Dragonlance, when he turns into a white mouse familiar during Time of the Twins) and is the friendliest, healthiest little thing I've ever seen. He likes jumping out from his cage and sitting on my shoulder. No pics of him or Tribble, unfortunately.

I've had tons of goldfish and betta fish in the past, but my tank is currently being used as a mouse palace so I'll have to hold off on getting more. :smallamused:

http://www.gamecheetz.com/Tigger.jpgThe only one I've got an uploaded pic of. Tigger, watching TV. I added the remote, beer and shirt in Photoshop. The reflection of the TV in his eyes is his though... He really watched TV like that, regularly.

I believe the problem is that you've tried to post the page URL, not the IMG code or direct link. If I copy over the "IMG Code" of the first one, we get this:

http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx167/LadyDestra/Pictures/atWillnKathy038.jpg, which is a fine-looking horse.

The fighting fish eggs have hatched!

Sounds like you recommend getting a pet human. :smalltongue:

I find that humans are best left in the wild.

I find that humans are best left in the wild.

I disagree. When released into nature they can really devastate the ecosystem: they breed like rabbits, eat everything, and live for EVER. Even their ostensibly native ecosystem can take a real beating.

Humans should only be raised in captivity. With a bit of work, they can become loyal companions.

Do you give them names and occasionally talk to them?
