I've always had a soft spot for the Pyrokineticist, but the fire lash quite unfortunately doesn't get improvements like the kind of weapons you buy at a store.

Enter the Psychic Weapon Master (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20040827d). For the paltry price of 10,000 XP paid over time (and ignoring the stupid crystal weapon requirement) your flame lash becomes a +5 weapon with +5 worth of enhancements on it, which is even better than a Soulknife's little dirk.

The only problem is this: Pyrokineticist requires a power point pool but doesn't advance manifesting. Psychic Weapon Master is half-manifesting, so we won't be a very great manifester.

We could go with Psychic Warrior 9/Pyrokineticist 1/Psychic Weapon Master 10, which nets us 4 more PP and 5 more powers known, or Psion 8/Pyrokineticist 2/Psychic Weapon Master 10 (but this is a later entry due to the BAB requirement) with 7th level powers and many more powers known. Of course, the PsyWar version gets you a ton of bonus feats, which we will need - 4 bonus feats, compared to the Psion's 2.

Suddenly, Ardent, the king of psionic multiclassing, comes to the rescue! Ardent 7/Pyrokineticist 1/Psychic Weapon Master 10/Ardent 2 caps us out with ML18, provided we take Practiced Manifester (and who doesn't?).

The feats:
Flaw: Dodge
Flaw: Mobility
Human: Psionic Weapon
1: Practiced Manifester
3: Power Attack
6: Psionic Dodge
9: Weapon Focus

Now, as an Ardent 7/Pyrokineticist 1/ we enter Psychic Weapon Master and reap the benefits!

12: Spring Attack (work with me here)
Weapon Master: Combat Reflexes
15: Combat Expertise
Weapon Master: Improved Critical
18: Whirlwind Attack
Weapon Master: Whirlwind Attack. But, you might ask, why did we bother getting the prerequisites for it and then taking it? Because the Psychic Weapon Master says that when we do that, we can Whirlwind Attack as a standard action. With 15ft reach, more if you have shenanigans (and you do!) like Expansion or Metamorphosis. You have 16 BAB and 9th level powers, a quality gish.

However, if you want less of an Ardent + extras and more of a blender, you'll need more bonus feats! Psychic Warrior gets you feats, though Fighter doesn't hurt and even Monk gives you some stuff. Two more builds!

Monk 3/Fighter 2/Pyrokineticist 1/Psionic Fist 5/Psychic Weapon Master 9
Psychic Warrior 9/Pyrokineticist 1/Psionic Weapon Master 10

The first build uses Cobra Strike style to get free Dodge and Mobility, the Fighter dip for Power Attack and Weapon Focus, leaving us with only Psionic Dodge and Psionic Weapon to fill.
Human: Wild Talent
1: Power Attack
Monk 1: Dodge
Monk 2: Mobility
Fighter 1: Weapon Focus
Fighter 2: Improved Critical
6: Spring Attack
9: Psionic Dodge
Psionic Fist 5: Psychic Weapon
12: Weapon Expertise
15: If you want insane amounts of AoOs, taking Combat Reflexes before you get it from Psychic Weapon Master adds your WIS to AoOs made, too. And also powers your Monk AC and Psionic Fist powers. Intuitive Attack might like a word with you too.
Psychic Weapon Master 5: Combat Reflexes
Psychic Weapon Master 7: Improved Critical. But we already have it! And now it's 2 better! Swing around your 16-20/x3 lash and laugh.
18: Whirlwind Attack
Psychic Weapon Master 9: Whirlwind Attack again, so you get the standard action deal. Swoop from the sky, blenderize and retreat!

The PsyWar build works in a similar manner. You get more powers known, don't need Wild Talent, so you can use your bonus feats to take the bonus Monk and Fighter feats, use your Human feat on Psychic Weapon and end up with the same feats, essentially. With this build you end up with 16 BAB, so if you needed to focus on one enemy, you get that one iterative.

So you can have 9th level powers and no feats, or 5th level powers and feats. If you don't want to Whirlwind as a standard (which is understandable) then you free up three feats, meaning you don't need flaws and Human. Remember that you can PA with your lash.

Suggestions?

Why be psionic at all? Normal Weapon Master or Kensai (or hell, a ToB class even) will work just fine with PK; all you need is a psionic race or Hidden Talent to get the necessary PP reserve. Then your lack of manifester levels won't be an issue.

Also, Pyro is really 9 levels long. Heat Death is the capstone, and don't let anyone tell you different. :smallwink:

Obligatory link for pyro threads: Change the element type. (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20040625e) (I'm a big fan of the sonic version - very few creatures are immune/resistant, and you ignore hardness.)

Yeah, but the point of the exercise was to get enhancements for your whip.

Swordsage/pyrokineticist/kensai (with a few more levels of swordsage tossed in here or there) would do wonders for this build. Don't waste your manifester levels by using psychic weapon master; try this instead.

Lots of bonus fire damage, and you get tons of utility, too.

In addition, A Kensai spends 6000 exp and half a year less meditation time on their weapon than a PWM does.

Pyrokineticist is a psionic PrC the way Incarnum Blade is an Incarnum PrC. That is to say, not one at all.
