Does anyone adjust cleric domain spells any?

I'm asking because I'd like to try to salvage domains to some extent in an E8 variant, but the spells are pretty much bad, or they overlap too much.

For example, Air and Water both get Obscuring Mist as a 1st level spell. If your spell list is being determined by your domains, picking them together hoses you.

Not to mention Obscuring Mist just doesn't seem like the definitive, almost signature beginner spell for water magic or air magic.

The Cleric Handbook (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=420.0) is always a must-read for these types of questions.

First, I would expand your search to domains from the Spell Compendium

Second, you always have the option of the Divine Magician alternate class feature from Complete Mage. It takes away one of your domains for the ability to add spells from the Wizard/Sorcerer list to your spell list. There is a good link here (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=4622.0) of the most effective spells to choose from.

Third, you can check out the usually-avoided Planar Domains which would absolutely not give you redundant domain spells to cast from.

Yeah, this is a problem I’ve thought about, but haven’t put the time into addressing yet. I think the main problem is that some of these spells are the best option available in the PHB and the book in which the domain is introduced. But sometimes you find a spell in another source that would be more appropriate. If I had a player find a spell that was a better fit for a domain, I’d probably let them use it.

What I find more annoying, though, is when the Domain Power doesn’t really work… :smallmad:

It fits water slightly better, but I see no problem with it in either domain thematically.

Water's a bit weak anyways, you should just pick a different domain. Air gives you defense, blasting, mobility and battlefield control in one tidy package - pick something else to go with it, like Travel.

Uh, I think the OP was asking more for homebrewing than for RAW-ACFs for Domains.

There is a 2nd level spell in Comp Champion, Domain Substitution, or something, that modifies your domain spell list. I don't remember exactly how it works off the top of my head, but it might be what you want. A second level spell burned every day for a superior spell list would be worthwhile.

Otherwise, just house-rule it. The issue with Core domains is that they only have Core spells. If a spell in SpC or such better fits the theme for a core domain, just change it (with DM permissions, of course).
