Well, the way the remote processor is described leads me to believe that it is an attachment for a real processor, so you have a heuristic remote processor or a standard remote processor.
So theoretically you could have a droid hero with a remote processor and simply has an orbital escape pod like transmitter that simply gets dropped by the party ship whenever we hit a new world, or even just have the thing in the ship, then carry around a couple of spare receivers to put into random machines.
Though the more I think about it the more there should be some sort of penalty per object controlled. something like -1 int while the various hosts are apart, to deal with the droid mind being distracted.

2 points 1 every remote processor has a stated limit on how many droids it controls and two you are vulnerable to jamming.

Orbital hijinks would require at minimum a 500km (the edge of space on earth is 100km, and most satellites are higher up than that) processor, which is A) military restrictions, B) 100000cr (ie beyond most PCs until the very high levels, and often even then) and C) weighs a metric ton (literally! :P). So odds are you're not going to be pulling that trick with a PC unless you're well funded.

On the subject of actual rules, the remote processor is its own processor. It's not an add-on for heuristics/basic. And since it's not heuristic you can't technically play a PC with a remote processor (if you want more evidence of this take a gander at page 187, Playing a Standard Droid Model under processor. "You cannot have a remote processor." period).

So unfortunately, by the rules, doing something like this isn't allowed. On the other hand it would make for an interesting set of houserules (you'd have to allow droids you tagged with receivers to resist, probably based off hacking with Use Computer vs. Will defense and multiple checks) and it could be a lot of fun, so if you want to try something like that you might want to discuss it with your GM (with the inevitable 'I technically can't do this by the rules*, but it could be a lot of fun' clause :P).

*There is one way you could do it by the rules...the same way you can get around all the droid restrictions, upload yourself into a new body after building your character. Find a remote processor station (Scavenger's has a few interesting pre-set ones, like one that controls the droid repair teams on a ship), steal it, set it up, then upload yourself into it and install a remote receiver in your (now unoccupied) old body. Of course you lose the bonuses of heuristics, but it's theoretically possible (just like playing a droid starfighter is theoretically possible with this method, or maybe Pun Pun :P. ie 'it only works if your gm likes it')
