A: Because it was tied to the turkey
B: To get to the other side
C: Why didn't it cross the road.
D: Because it missed the bus.
E: Because it wanted to.

What's a rode?

Past tense of "ride". How you would cross one, I don't know since it's a verb, not a noun.

It was dark.
Clucky looked around nervously, peering up and down the long and narrow expanse of the dreaded highway. Beyond the cold, thick pavement lay the lush, green fields of Farmer Dan's chicken coop. And inside that chicken coop, Rosey was waiting.
Rosey... Clucky had never seen a more beautiful hen in all his life. She was tall and plump, with a fine scarlet comb and beautiful beady blue eyes. Her feathers, white across her neck and back but brown over her head and chest.
Clucky had always had a soft spot for the brunettes.
And he had promised Rosey that tonight, tonight would be their night. It was the three-month anniversary of the day they had met at the farmer's fair.
Except... there was one problem.
Walking up and down a few feet of that long and narrow road, Clucky felt a kind of panic strike him. Every time he tried to cross, a big metal box with lights would come whizzing down in front of him and then vanish over the hill. Clucky had tried three times now, each attempt to cross cut off by one of those roaring behemoths.
But now, in this lull, none of the big metal boxes had passed for a good few minutes. Was it safe? Clucky wasn't sure. But what the rooster did know was that if he didn't go now, he'd lose his chance.
And so, he took a deep breath.
And he ruffled his feathers back.
And he ran forward.

And just like that, the pavement beneath his talons turned to soft grass.

Incredulous, Clucky turned, looking back at the road he had just crossed. He... he had done it! In a flood of self-pride, the rooster let out a loud crow of victory, his wings spread wide in defiance.
When he calmed down, he turned once again to face the fence to Farmer Dan's coop.
And waiting behind it, was Rosey.
Clucky grinned.
