I have never liked the idea of using XP for magic item crafting. I was wondering if anybody knows of an alternate system for 3.5 to craft magic items but does not utilize xp in its cost.

It's dangerous to go alone... (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/buildingCharacters/craftPoints.htm)

Ah yes, How silly of me to over look this. Thank you much. I should probably reread my eberron book every so often. :/

I'm not sure where he got it from, but the DM from one group I watched briefly exchanged the exp cost for a 25% increase in the price to craft, so instead of 50% gold, it costs 75% gold.

Alternatively, if you're interested in using EXP, but not your EXP, you can always read into the BoVD for the other ways of obtaining bonus exp for crafting...

Or you could replace XP with GP cost. Standard in the DMG is 5gp per 1XP for crafting and for spells with an XP component. But since you're the caster, maybe you could persuade your DM to bump it down to around 3gp per 1XP.

With enough work, you can make level 1 and, I believe, 2 scrolls cost 0 xp.
