You are all in the Lucky Slug tavern in the city of Frogbelly. Frogbelly is a town mostly inhabited by elves and lies on the west border of the Southmire forest. A small human demographic lives in the southern parts of Frogbelly. The owner of the Lucky Slug is an old elf by the name of Giiuin. He is over 400 years old and is now retired. In his youth Giiuin was a sailor on a fishing vessel. He lost an eye in his travels and has a jar with five large eyes floating in some liquid.

Frogbelly is a quiet town. There hasn't been war in over 130 years and that was a border war with dragons who have since left the continent after their defeat by the elves. One such celebrity that lives in Frogbelly is the old elven wizard Frizzlebort. He lives in a large mansion located on top of a tree growing out of a second mansion located on top of a second tree located in the center of town. To the west of Frogbelly is the town of Gnometown a village inhabited by gnomes. They specialize in magic and certain fields of technology and scientific research.

The Lucky Slug is quiet today. Aside from you there's only a group of nude nobles all sitting at one table. Just moments earlier Giiuin nailed a poster to the wall saying the bounty on the kidnapper has increased from 1,000 gp to 1,750 gp. The kidnapper has been at larger for three weeks now. They've abducted 8 children and no ransom or spottings of the children had been seen,

Alexander studies the poster and the information it provides.

After having studied the poster for a full minute he turns, his eyes landing on the tavern owner

"For now, the tavern shall be my first lead... If any shifty characters have been coming through, the innkeeper will surely know, and i can probably assertain who the most likely suspects are from him, he should know the surrounding neighbourhood at least..."

Alex strides over to stand before the inn keeper. "Greetings sir. This is a comfortable establishment you have here! I'm new in town, and i'm hoping to get my bearings, i expect to be here for a few days at least, but could you perhaps tell me a little about the town? I do feel awfully out of place, and any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated"

Frogbelly also has a great archery district filled with shooting galleries and bow makers. They's also the old Fizzlebort, the archwizard. He lives in that house located on the tree in the center of town. I doubt you could manage to see him in person but if you could get an audience with him I'm sure he could show you some sight."

He isn't hiding anything.

"How about the local shops and suppliers? Can you tell me who's reliable and not reliable around here? Oh, also, i like exploring new towns, but, oh, how should i put this? are there any places or people in town that would be best...avoided? oh, and who would i go to, say if there were some sort of local disturbance? a street brawl or runaway thief, something of that like"

Dr.Epic
2010-07-16, 06:27 PM
halfdragon62: "Like I said the bow making district pretty good. We got some good magic shops too and the local mage guild. I'd stay clear of the human district. There's also this orc tailor. I don't know much about him. As for disturbances, I'd go to the town guard."

Gemmatharia sips her too-sweet elven wine and scans the poster the innkeeper has just put up. Missing children? Oh the poor dears! This will not do. This will not do at all!

She carefully tucks away her yarn and needles, shuts her knitting bag with a decisive snap! and makes her way toward the bar. The handsome young man earns a long, slow, appraising glance before she dismisses him as entirely too clean-cut for her tastes.

Clambering with no small difficulty onto one of the ridiculously tall bar-stools, she butts her way into the conversation, addressing the barkeeper.

"So tell me, these missing children that I'm going to rescue, do they have anything in common? Were they all the same race? The same age? Did they know each other? Were their families connected to one another? Anything like that?

"Also, who's putting up the reward money?"

Dr.Epic
2010-07-16, 06:46 PM
Arrowhen: The bartender says "The town guard is putting out the reward. As for the children, they're all elves around age 60 and the kidnapping have all happened around the center and western parts of town."

Silverking:ooc: You can hear the bartender and halfdragon talking.

halfdragon62
2010-07-16, 07:14 PM
unperturbed by the interruption, Alexander also puts a question forward, acting as though he has only just remembered the missing children.

"Ah, yes, the missing children. How are the families holding up? Are the town guard conducting their own investigation?"

Alex returns the appraisal after posing his question. The gnome is an attractive example of her race, but the mischievous glint in her eyes dissuades him.

2010-07-16, 07:16 PM
"So young! Oh, the poor things. Did they all go missing around the same time?"

Gemma searches her memory, trying to recall if there's anything ritually or magically significant about that particular number of children, elven children of that age in general, or anything of the sort. Maybe whoever took them intended to sacrifice them to some icky god or use them as components in some kind of awful spell.

Jace shrugged off of the stool as he finished his second ale. He was at the end of the table, but his keen ears caught on to the conversation going on with the tender. A kidnapping, huh? He thought to himself as he sauntered over to the group. He put on a grin and snuck onto the side, jumping into a pause in the conversation.

"Hold on one second, sixty? Since when is that a kid?" He asked with obvious stupidity.

(Is that good?)

Korf stared at the poster for a while, then seemed to make a decision.
"Hm," he said, having obviously made up his mind, "Korf not read."
He overheard most of the conversation, though, between Gemma and Alex, and making money sounded good.
"Excuse me, Mr. Hedge and little person." He gave them a big smile full of half-missing teeth, trying to be friendly, "I like money, too."

2010-07-17, 02:40 AM
Alex turns to face the newcomers as they approach; first a halfling, wearing light armor and a sly, fox-like grin on his face, with twitching fingers and lithe, quick steps that make little noise. Alex quickly figures him for some kind of streetsmart or trickster, but does not detect any malice in the halfling's word or manner. The next was a heavily built half-orc, apparently the opposite of the halfling in build and behavior. He was obvious and blunt, and Alex could easily see the fiery passion of a berserk in the warrior's blue eyes. Again, Alex could sense no malice, so he addressed both halfling and half-orc equally, the hint of a smile curling at his lips.

"Greetings to the both of you as well. i'm guessing we're all interested in this case of kidnappings?"

Alex only needed to look into each person's eyes to see that this was indeed the case.

"In that case, I would be honoured to work with all of you. Might i suggest then that we begin our investigation immediately? The town watch will likely have more information that we will need to bring this mystery to light, and, acting now will increase our chances of finding those children alive, and of preventing further abductions."

Dr.Epic
2010-07-17, 04:25 AM
Silverking: One of the nude elf nobles says to you "60 is just under the age of puberty you foolish oaf. And as for children, might want to go and talk to our tailor. He has a rather large chest filled with candy. We say it not too long ago when we picked up these new outfits of ours."

2010-07-17, 01:44 PM
Ohmygods, ohmygods, ohmygods! A real adventuring company! And I'm part of it. Whatever you do, Gemma, do NOT screw this up!

"Right," Gemmatheria says, "Now we're getting somewhere. Pleasure to meet you all, etc., etc., now what do we do first? I'm thinking we could start by talking to the watch, find out what kind of investigation they've done already. That will help us decide on our next course of action: if it looks like they've been thorough, we won't waste time duplicating their efforts, but on the other hand, if it looks like they've missed anything, then we'll know where to start."

She finally runs out of breath.

"I'm Gemma, by the way."

She begins reaching out to shake everyone's hand, but stops abruptly and folds her arms, a puzzled look coming over her face.

"Wait. Did that naked elf just say, 'these new outfits of ours'?"

Dr.Epic
2010-07-17, 01:47 PM
arrowhen: Another unclothed noble says "Yes. It's made of rather rare and expensive fabric. To a oafish person it appears as though we're nude but to the superior intellect we're wearing elaborate clothing."

halfdragon62
2010-07-17, 06:00 PM
A smile tugs at the edges of Alex's lips, but he keeps his composure. he turns to face the nobles, keeping his face even, he addresses them.

"Greetings to you and your company. i have no gentle to put this, but i believe you have been fooled by this tailor. the 'clothes' he has sold to you appear to be utterly transparent, and, if i may be so bold, i believe that each one of you can see this as well, but are unwilling to admit to it."

Dr.Epic
2010-07-17, 06:59 PM
halfdragon: The nobles look at you and laugh a little. "Yes, our tailor said there would be people who wouldn't able to see our elaborate clothes. But I assure you that we are indeed clothed even if your tiny brain can't comprehend it. I for one am wearing a lovely blue coat and suit. My friend here is wearing a green outfit with a crimson inner lining."

Dr.Epic

You walk to the town guard. It's about a half hour walk. You pass Fizzlbort's house. You can see it on top of two trees. The sight of his gigantic mansion on top of two large trees and another mansion fills you with awe. You pass several local businesses: a few magic shops, a few bakeries, a butcher's shop, several bow makers. Finally, you reach the headquarters of the town guard. There's a large wooden wall surrounding all sides of it. A large tower escalates from the center behind the walls. Many elves stand atop the wall with bows at the ready for any signs of trouble. A few elves in wearing shiny, elaborate breastplates stand outside it. They ask you what your business.

Dr.Epic
2010-07-20, 03:06 PM
"All we've learned is completely available to the public that's why we put out that bounty. We don't have that much information that's why we're hoping someone in town is capable of tracking them down. It's a damn shame old Fizzlebort is on the plane of Hot-Female-Elves-that-are-Attracted-to-Old-Elven-Mages. I didn't even know there was a plane of existence called that."

Alex gives Jace a stern look,"We are morally obligated to find the missing children first" he then turns back to the guard, his face hardened.
"could someone at least point us toward the locations of each family? Surely they have been spoken to?"

Alex curses inwardly, wondering how on earth the town watch had been unable to dig up any leads in three weeks. he turns back to Jace and Korf, his righteous anger fading slightly at a new thought.

"Now that i think about it... Once we have unraveled this mystery i think we should pay Fizzlebort a visit... I do begin to wonder if Fizzlebort's elven lady friends are entirely ill disposed toward young paladins?"

He turns to Gemma, the hint of a grin tugging at the edge of his lips.
"And i'm sure that there would be some male company for you Gemma"

You proceed to the homes of each family that suffered loss. You hear the sad story of 8 different families. You don't gather much information but while traveling between the homes you pass a few stores each time. One is a tailor's shop possibly the one the nobles in the bar were talking about.

You move downstairs. An unpleasant spell emerges from down there. You reach the bottom and see a horrific sight. Scattered across the room are body part and blood. Not a spot in the room is left untouched by carnage. In the center of the room is an orc holding a severed arm. He doesn't have an evil aura but you do detect one from somewhere. The orc grins at you and asks "Are you here to see the spider?"

"We have come here investigating rumors that you have been falsely claimed to be selling invisible garments to those with enough gold" Alex briefly glances around the blood drenched room, gulping down his bile. "But it would appear that you have committed a far more serious crime..."Alex waits, calmly meeting the orc's gaze with a look of determination. When the orc does not answer. he turns back to the orc, and asks the following questions:

"When did the spider start talking to you?"
"Have you seen the spider? what does he/she look like?"
"Has the spider asked you to do anything else?"
"How many people have you killed for the spider?"
"Do you want to keep serving the spider?"
"Is the spider here now?"

"The spider started talking to me about a month ago. One day I saw this hole in my basement - it's behind that pile of corpses - and I heard a voice from down there. I went in and saw a big spider. It was really big. I started talking to the spider and the spider told me to kill little children because it was evil. At first I didn't understand why, but the spider just told me to do it and it would make sense later. So I went out and started kidnapping children and killing them hear in the most painful way imaginable. The spider could hear the screams and was given pleasure by that. The spider should be down in its hole if you want to met them."

He appears to be telling the truth.

"...Sir, listen to me, listen to what i have to ask, and think on it very carefully before you answer. The spider ordered you to kidnap and kill these children, yes? The spider wanted to see death caused by your hand...But is that what you wanted? Is that you want your legacy to be? You are a tailor, sir, and surely there must be some redeeming factor for you to have been accepted into this community. I must ask you; Did you kill those children simply because the spider ordered you to do so? or because you WANTED to carry out the spider's orders?"

Alex finishes his say, hoping that his words shall unveil some humanity in the tailor, or at the very least give him enough pause to give Alex and his companions time to overpower him.

The local orc taylor had been somehow talked into kidnapping and brutally killing the children for the amusement of a giant, intelligent, spider that lived in a cavern beneath his basement. We tried to reason with it, but it rampaged. Knowing we couldn't take it head on, we decided that the best course of action was to lock it in the basement with some burning cloth, hoping it will burn/suffocate."

He continued. "The reason I ran around the area was that it might have been able to tunnel its way out of the basement, and I needed to make sure before we did anything drastic."

The orc tailor appears to have been luring them away with candy before killing them in his home. However, we do not believe that he did this of his own free will. That's where the spider comes in. It's an abberation of some kind, and we think that it compelled the orc tailor to murder the children with some kind of magical compulsion or enchantment. We encountered the creature within the orc's basement, and it chased after us when we fled. For the time being, it is trying to burst through those doors leading downwards, but those doors are not going to last long if my hunch is correct... So..."
