Yes, I am that masochistic. Bring on your slash, your character derailment, your horrific spelling and atrocious grammar. Your Mary Sues, your prose, and your jerkass authors. Share your pain with those who've experienced similar hardships. Discuss.

Example: Cloud Mows The Lawn *shudder*

What's so bad about a story about grass-cutting? :smalltongue:

The Playground is really not the best forum for this game. You'll either get a thousand mentions of "My Immortal" or "Repurcussions of Evil" or the thread will get locked quickly for adult content. (Children, please do not read "Cloud mows the lawn." It is Not Brain Safe.) Nonetheless, if you're in the mood for terrible fanfics, look no further than here:

I've only read two fanfics. Sooo, the worst one is my immortal, and the best one is doom: repercussions of evil.

Worst in the sense of incompetence? The adventures of Light and Dark Yagami

Worst in the sense of pain? The Girl Who Lived.

Worst in general? Can't post it on this forum .

My Immortal, almost anything that is HoYay based (Batman/Robin, House/Wilson, Harry/Ron, etc).

I also suggest that this be turned into a Best/Worst, because I imagine most of the bests are infinitely more postable.

I don't pretend to be any great reader of fanfiction, but the best I've ever read is this (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3509200/1/Erlk_nig).

Read? Heck, how about writing! In the old days when the tradition of shipping in the playground was blooming, I commited the atrocity known as My Elitest, which was My Immortal (well, its first several chapters at least) with character names replaced with GitP forumers and the more NSFW stuff cut out. It was all under the permission of the people included, but no less terrible because of it.

My Immortal is so bad that I wrote my college research paper on it, but (as I demonstrated in said paper) it's 90% probable that it's intentionally so.

How I Became Yours

It's a 199 page comic featuring stock photos and half a dozen traced drawiings resized and reskinned whenever needed.

Think Avatars Zutra fandom, now imagine a fourteen year old zutra shipper(I.E., an average zutra shipper). Now imagine one who's only other entertainment is cheesy spanish soap operas. Now she combines the two.

She's making a sequel.

It's somewhere here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86244). The search mechanism doesn't work for threads that old and I don't feel like slogging through 50 pages, so you'd have to look for it yourself.

EDIT: here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4644030&postcount=500), here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4653955&postcount=643) and here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4663672&postcount=730). Maybe there's more, I forgot.

The absolute worst fanfic that I've ever read would have to be Shampoo's Revenge. It relies on a ludicous and wrong assumptions about how the series works to humiliate one specific character in more and more extraordinary ways. Worse yet, the character being humiliated is the closest to being in-character throughout the fic.

Let's not forget My Inner Life (NSFW or anywhere, for that matter). Though the dramatic reading is superb, I must say.

Ah.

Not the worst, but it's a fair bet nobody else will pass this sucker on.

Marathon the Chilron (http://cultofray.net/CHILRON/chilron.html)

It's... pretty not-good.

Worse if you know the game it's fanficing.

Shared it with a couple people before. Their response?

Physical pain.

Thirty Hs. But bad in the way that it's freakin' awesome.

But I am NOT linking to it. Sorry.

Basically, it's been explained this way. If My Immortal was done by the average 13 Year-old Girl, then Thirty Hs was done by the average 13 Year-old Boy.

It's not technically fan-fiction, but you have to go a long, long way to find anything worse than "The Eye of Argon" by Jim Theis...

I have to go with Sonichu, both for its dreadful execution (it looks like it was done by a seven-year-old) and the fact that the author is insistent that it is an original franchise, no matter how patently ludicrous that claim may be.

Actually, i don't think i have ever read any really bad ones.

I make a point out of avoiding those.

...Though there was that one cross-over detailing why putting Hojo from Final Fantasy 7 in the Dragon Ball Z setting would be a very bad thing for everything that lives...
Crazy bastard actually thought injecting Cell with Jenova Cells was a good idea :smalleek:

Yes, a Cell that can regenerate even if you utterly destroy him because somewhere, on some distant planet, there was a Jenova Cell that you missed.

See how that would be a problem?

So all he has to do is spread pieces of Jenova all over the place, then when he's killed he will simply regenerate from one of those pieces in the event that there was nothing left of his own body to regenerate from.

...DAMN IT HOJO!

Twilight. Full stop.

(Dis)honorable mention to any Star Trek novel by Berman or Braga.

If you're a fan who finagles the legal right to say you can officially write a particular fictional franchise, it is technically no longer fanfiction, no matter how godawful it is.

Twilight's a trickier case, but since it has absolutely nothing to do with any previously-established vampire or werewolf fiction, I think we can at least give the author credit for it being an "original" work. Which does not mean not terrible.

Anyway, TVTropes led me to the hilarity that is Evangelion 2: The DELTA Invasion, which is structurally the worst fanfic I've actually read all the way through. It doesn't even manage to do its own Marty Stu justice. MST3K version here (http://www.heavens-feel.com/elmer/evad1.txt), and trust me, that's the only way I was able to deal with it.

Light and Dark: The Adventures of Dark Yagami and the entire Full LIfe Consequences saga are two of my favorite fanfictions ever. Can we talk more about those? "Combines are from SCIENCE and OUTER SPACE and hate hummens!"

The worst is probably this one X-Men fanfiction I don't remember the name of - and even if I did, I wouldn't post it. It has something to do with Jean cheating on Cyclops with Wolverine, and then they move to Paris... and then I lose my appetite for three days.

Yes! Yes. My Inner Life needs more recognition for probably being creepier than My Immortal, albeit less funny.

I've only read small fragments of it out of morbid curiosity before I decided it wasn't worth subjecting myself to the rest, but I'd have to vote for The Girl Who Lived (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/FanFic/TheGirlWhoLived). Read the TVTropes page on it, then decide if it's worth subjecting yourself to the horror.

A girl I know constantly does the same thing you do, having a great love for hating on bad fanfics and ranting about it. She often mentions one called WHAT'S HAPpenin'. Also, I recall one about a Lifenote or something? It was a Deathnote fanfic at any rate, but I never got the title.

I'm afraid I've got you all beaten.

Somewhere on AFF, there is an Inuyasha fanfiction -- it had a sequel, I couldn't bring myself to read it -- that revolves around a fertility festival held in Kaede's village.

Since this is fanfiction, obviously "fertility festival" means "mass orgy". Standard stuff, yes? Oh no.

The Goshinboku, a damn *tree*, comes alive and has sex with the elderly Kaede during said festival -- and then afterwards, Kagome and Sango (As far as I have allowed myself to remember) cheerfully discuss getting their "inevitable" unborn babies aborted.

Twilight, bad as it is, is NOT fanfiction.

The Brandon and Braga novels, being not cannon, however, basically are. Really, if it's not cannon, I don't care if it was legally published, it's fanfiction.

I've only read the Cliff Notes version, but I'd agree. Each book is exponentially worse than the one before. The fourth book is at Necronomicon level of inducing reader insanity. The fifth book is even worse.

Actually another book that is clearly non-canon is that awful vampire book by Dacre Stoker and Ian Holt. Anything that has such a blatant error on page 2 is clearly not worth reading. (For those who are mostly familiar with vampire movies, Dracula (that is, Stoker's original version) has no powers in sunlight, but isn't actually damaged by it. In DC Heroes terms, he has a Loss Vulnerability (all Powers) vs. direct sunlight, not a Fatal Vulnerability. When you have Mina telling her son Quincy that Dracula is destroyed by sunlight despite the fact that she saw him in daylight in Dracula in a supposed sequel to the original book written by a supposed descendant of the original writer on the second page of said "sequel"!!!!!!
