View Full Version : AvB - Hara

Rizban
2010-07-18, 05:05 PM
Inside The Dancing Orc, the patrons fall deathly silent and stare at Hara. The owner stands behind the bar and absently polishes a tumbler while also staring at the newcomer.

Jallorn
2010-07-18, 05:15 PM
Hara limps carefully over to the owner, cluncks down on a stool and asks, Got any job openings?

Rizban
2010-07-18, 05:20 PM
He smirks. "You any good at washing chamber pots?"

You hear some muffled laughter from the far side of the room. It's cut off quickly before you can determine exactly who it was.

Jallorn
2010-07-18, 05:23 PM
Fine then, you got a room?

Rizban
2010-07-18, 05:32 PM
"Yeah. Two gold a night."

Jallorn
2010-07-18, 05:35 PM
Hara pulls up a small bag and drops it onto the counter, it looks half empty. Opening the drawstring, he pulls out a single gold piece and ten silver pieces. Anyone who is close enough and cares to look can see only a couple more silver pieces and a handful of copper pieces. It's highway robbery, but I'll pay it, I need to rest after that trip.

Rizban
2010-07-18, 05:36 PM
He snatches at the coins then drops a key on the bar and points to the stairs.

"Back there. Don't leave with the key."

Jallorn
2010-07-18, 05:46 PM
Hara snatches the key, same as the owner snatched his gold, then limps up the stairs, making a fair amount of noise as he does so. Finding his room, he enters, then closes and locks the door, dropping his bag. He then lies down to sleep until night.

Rizban
2010-07-18, 06:39 PM
Strangely enough for the Docks, Hara sleeps peacefully without interruption.

Jallorn
2010-07-18, 06:54 PM
Arising, Hara double checks his belongings, then leaves his room, leaving his bag and locking the door. He goes downstairs quietly and looks around.

His breastplate is probably visible to some degree, but he is wearing clothes over it.

Rizban
2010-07-18, 07:35 PM
As you walk downstairs, the owner stops you and holds out his hand. "Key?"

Jallorn
2010-07-18, 07:40 PM
The night's not over, you can have the key back when it is.

Rizban
2010-07-18, 08:25 PM
"Hmpf. Don't leave with it. I ain't payin' to replace it, but I'll pay someone to drag you back with it if I hafta."

Jallorn
2010-07-18, 08:27 PM
Is there anyone else up?

Rizban
2010-07-18, 08:40 PM
There are about 7 or 8 patrons drinking noisily. None of them are paying you any attention at the moment.

Jallorn
2010-07-18, 08:44 PM
Hara turns around and limps back upstairs, gathers his things, and then goes down the hall and knocks on a random door.

Rizban
2010-07-18, 08:46 PM
A heavily inebriated man opens the door, the scent of his breath causes your stomach to seize as you try not to gag.

"What?!"

Jallorn
2010-07-18, 08:55 PM
Quietly, Hara makes a motion and speaks a few words of power, then reaches out and transmits a good deal of negative energy into the man.

Inflict Moderate Wounds.

Touch Attack: [roll0]
Damage: [roll1]

You can cast defensively as a full round action to negate AoO, right?

Rizban
2010-07-18, 09:30 PM
I don't know... I know you can with a Concentration check DC15+spell level without increasing casting time...

The man slumps backwards on the floor unconscious.

Jallorn
2010-07-18, 10:43 PM
Hara enters the room, closing the door, and killing the man with his Charnel Touch. He then begins the incantations necessary to raise the body as a zombie. When that's done, he changes shape to a young man, swapping out his outfit for one designed to cause fear, the shirt is decorated with a skull, though he keeps the same cloak on. His hair is now jet black and his eyes are red. His body is muscled, and he now has his morningstar on his belt. Opening the door, he commands the zombie to wait in the room until he calls for it. Then, he heads back to the stairs, and Summons an Owlbear skeleton in front of the door, then calls for his new zombie.

Rizban
2010-07-19, 10:19 AM
Assuming you summoned it at the top of the stairs, no one interferes or notices.

Jallorn
2010-07-19, 10:20 AM
I intended for the Owlbear Skeleton to appear in front of the exit/entrance.

Rizban
2010-07-19, 11:15 AM
When the owlbear skeleton appears just within the front door blocking the exit, you hear all hell break loose inside as patrons panic, spill their ales, and generally freak out and look for cover and/or escape.

Jallorn
2010-07-19, 11:21 AM
Pleased with the reactions, Hara sends his zombie down to attack the patrons, then descends the stairs grandly.

Init: [roll0]

That's just Hara's init. I don't know if you want me to roll the zombie or owlbear.

Rizban
2010-07-19, 11:26 AM
owlbear goes on your initiative, because it is a summoned creature.

The zombie acts on its own initiative, because it is merely a controlled creature.

If you end up with a small horde of creatures, I'll ask that you do a "group initiative" check and have them all go at once to make things easier. You'll roll 3d6+(avg initiative modifier) and have them all act on the resulting number.

Jallorn
2010-07-19, 11:52 AM
Zombie initiative then: [roll0]

Rizban
2010-07-19, 04:19 PM
Zombie - 14
Patrons - 12
Barkeep - 9
You/skeleton - 2

Jallorn
2010-07-20, 11:02 PM
The zombie shambles down the stairs and towards the nearest person who isn't Hara. If he can reach him this turn, he attacks with his slam.

Rizban
2010-07-21, 08:49 AM
He fails to reach anyone. Everyone in the common room is too panicked to do anything, except the bartender, he runs into the back room behind the bar.

Jallorn
2010-07-21, 11:24 AM
The skeleton remains by the door, but attacks if there's anyone in reach. Hara chases after the bartender.

Rizban
2010-07-21, 11:35 AM
The skeleton maims one of the patrons as he attempts to slip past, leaving him bleeding to death on the floor.

Hara chases the barkeeper and barely manages to duck to the side as a kitchen knife impales itself on the door next to him. He sees the barkeeper holding a large butcher knife in one hand while drawing another knife out of a knife block with the other. His wife is a short distance behind him fiddling with some sort of long, skinny metal and wood contraption.

The barkeep waves the butcher knife at you menacingly. "I'm warnin' you.."

Jallorn
2010-07-21, 12:07 PM
In response, Hara raises his hand and points a finger at the bartender. Murmuring an incantation, he fires a black beam at the bartender.

Enervation, 1 standard action
Ranged Touch Attack: [roll0]
Negative levels: [roll1]

I don't have 4th level spells, oops.

Jallorn
2010-07-21, 12:11 PM
In response, Hara lifts his morningstar and grins. Charging towards the man, he raises his weapon to swing.

Meanwhile, the zombie shambles towards the nearest person to attack.

If I can't move to him and attack both this turn, I'll put off the attack till next turn. I'm also activating my fear aura.

Rizban
2010-07-21, 12:45 PM
He throws a knife at you as you charge him, but his aim is terrible.

[roll0]
[roll1]

You need to make your attack rolls.

Jallorn
2010-07-21, 12:49 PM
Alright, some games the DM likes to make the attacks.

Hara Attack: [roll0]
Damage: [roll1]

Zombie attack: [roll2]
Damage: [roll3]

Rizban
2010-07-21, 01:10 PM
If they're unimportant, such as a controlled NPC slaughtering the unarmed, drunken 1st level commoner patrons, then I just kind of fluff the combat. When it involves your actual character doing something, then I'd prefer if the player rolls it.

In other words, for this situation, roll for Hara, and we'll just fluff the skeleton and zombie fight.

Hara clobbers the barkeep in the head, sending him to the ground in a stupor. His wife finishes fiddling with the device, raises it, and aims it at Hara. It appears to be a long, narrow metal tube attached to a wooden handle. You aren't exactly sure what it is, but it does look like a weapon of some sort.

Rizban
2010-07-21, 01:13 PM
Bang! A high velocity ball of lead barely misses your head. Your ears are ringing in the aftermath. As the smoke clears, you see the woman frantically trying to reload the device.

[roll0]
[roll1]

Jallorn
2010-07-21, 01:13 PM
OK, so should I leave the zombie to you?

Rizban
2010-07-21, 01:14 PM
The zombie and owlbear skeleton are busy killing the patrons.

Hara's turn to act.

Jallorn
2010-07-21, 01:21 PM
Stepping forwards, Hara swings at the woman.

Attack: [roll0]
Damage: [roll1]

I'd like to take this opportunity to mention my Damage Reduction :smalleek:

Rizban
2010-07-21, 01:38 PM
The woman manages to reload the gun and moves away from you, pushing over a stack of pots and pans to slow you down and avoid an AoO.

The skeleton and zombie continue to maul the few living patrons.

Jallorn
2010-07-21, 01:40 PM
Once again, Hara swings at the woman.

Attack: [roll0]
Damage: [roll1]

Rizban
2010-07-21, 02:07 PM
You cross the room after her and manage to land a solid blow on her shoulder.

She steps back from you, raises the gun, and fires.

[roll0]
[roll1]

Wow... not just a nat 1 but two of them...

The gun backfires, explodes in her face, and she dies from the resultant blast.

Jallorn
2010-07-21, 02:14 PM
Smiling confidently, Hara makes sure the bartender is dead, then goes back out front to see what chaos his undead have caused.

Rizban
2010-07-21, 02:30 PM
You coup de grace the barkeep and walk back to find the five patrons laying dead on the floor. The zombie has been beating one one of the corpses since they stopped moving, making it no longer suitable for animation.

Jallorn
2010-07-21, 02:33 PM
Stop that, Hara snaps, Go upstairs, both of you, kill anything you find but don't destroy them so thoroughly like that. Oh, and if there are any children, don't hurt them. Having given his commands, Hara begins to move the bodies into the back room.

I hope that's not too complex for them.

Rizban
2010-07-21, 02:48 PM
The owlbear skeleton vanishes as the spell duration ends.

The zombie finds no one upstairs.

You manage to drag the bodies into the back room. You find that the exploding firearm has broken the neck of the barkeep's wife and caused enough other damage to prevent its animation. You are left with 5 useful bodies.

Jallorn
2010-07-21, 02:54 PM
Hara casts Desecrate over the back room.

How many bodies are there in total? 7?

Rizban
2010-07-21, 02:59 PM
7 total. 5 that can be animated with animate dead. All human.

Jallorn
2010-07-21, 03:02 PM
Hara casts animate dead three times, raising four skeletons and one more zombie. Once that's done, Hara commands the undead to remain in the descrated room, then looks around to see if there's a basement.

Rizban
2010-07-21, 03:16 PM
There is no basement.

Jallorn
2010-07-21, 03:19 PM
Disappointed, Hara changes shape and clothes again to that of a young man with the rough weathered skin of a laborer, and dirty, tough clothes. He also removes his breastplate and leaves his morningstar, leaving all his things hidden in his room which he locks. He then looks around for a sign that says closed, or paint.

Jallorn
2010-07-21, 04:14 PM
Search check?:[roll0]

Rizban
2010-07-21, 07:58 PM
Short of waiting until night and murdering families at home, he's not likely to find such easy targets again so soon. As it is, this is going to draw a large investigation to the area by the next day at the latest.

Jallorn
2010-07-21, 08:02 PM
I know. Right now I'm just trying to see if there's a way I can make a "closed" sign to delay investigations.

Rizban
2010-07-21, 08:09 PM
Ah, sorry, I misunderstood what you were doing. I'm kind of out of it at the moment with a migraine.

You discover that the shade which is pulled down over the window by the door says "CLOSED" on it. You found the keys to the building on the barkeep's corpse just prior to animating it.

Jallorn
2010-07-21, 08:18 PM
Satisfied for now, Hara locks the door, and then rests until morning, napping a little despite the sleep he's already gotten.

Do I have enough time to recover my spells? Assuming he gets up around midmorning.

Rizban
2010-07-21, 08:27 PM
He can choose to rest long enough to recover spells, just be aware that the situation won't always be fight 8 rounds sleep 8 hours.

Jallorn
2010-07-21, 08:31 PM
I know. In fact, I feel kind of guilty about doing it now, it feels cheap. But he still has to wait till morning before he can do what I'm planning next, so...

Jallorn
2010-07-21, 08:58 PM
In the morning, Hara exits the inn, but keeps the sign saying closed and locks the door behind him. Then, he looks for a place he can buy some shovels.

Rizban
2010-07-22, 09:33 AM
Are you planning to loot a graveyard? Just asking because Sesburians cremate their dead. They had a bad experience with an undead infestation a few years back.

There are a number of shops which sell basic equipment, such as shovels Indeed almost everything found in the PHB can be purchased at any number of seemingly nameless shops and need only be listed as purchased rather than needing to be roleplayed.

Jallorn
2010-07-22, 10:56 AM
No, actually, I'm trying to decide now if I should go through with my idea of using undead to make me an underground lair beneath the inn, or simply trying to carve out a section of sewers for myself.

Actually, I don't feel any particular urge to acquire more undead right now, not really in my motivations. I'm looking for a place I can be relatively safe while I begin taking assassination jobs.

Rizban
2010-07-22, 11:15 AM
Okay, I mentioned that because someone else already wanted to try to dig up the graveyard for bodies.

Digging down a few feet will cause you to break into the sewers. There are a few basements in the city, but not this close to the river.

Jallorn
2010-07-22, 11:22 AM
In that case, do you mind if I go back in time to the night? I'm ok with not doing that too, I can work with it.

Rizban
2010-07-22, 11:32 AM
Yeah, sure. That's fine with me. You didn't do anything but ask if you could buy a shovel anyway.

Jallorn
2010-07-22, 11:33 AM
Alright, that means my spell slots have been used still. Don't think I changed it anyway, but I'll check.

Is there a back door?

Rizban
2010-07-22, 11:34 AM
Yes, there is a small back door in the kitchen.

Jallorn
2010-07-22, 11:35 AM
Hara opens the back door and looks around, specifically for an entrance to the sewers.

Rizban
2010-07-22, 06:31 PM
It opens onto a narrow alley. There are a few garbage bins in the alley as well three doors leading into other buildings. There are new sewer grates.

Jallorn
2010-07-22, 07:12 PM
Hara checks the grates to see if they can be removed easily.

Rizban
2010-07-22, 08:00 PM
Err... that was supposed to be "There are no sewer grates."

Jallorn
2010-07-22, 08:08 PM
:smallamused:

Hara looks around to find a grate.

Rizban
2010-07-22, 08:14 PM
He finds a brand new sewer grate this time. However, it is wedged firmly shut and opens only into a narrow storm drain too small to accommodate him anyway. It seems that there is no nearby sewage access point.

Jallorn
2010-07-22, 08:21 PM
Well it turns out I will be purchasing shovels and picks.

By the way, Hara also searches the inn for money, as well as the bodies of the undead.

Rizban
2010-07-22, 08:23 PM
He finds the equivalent of 23gp in various coinage. There's also a collection of ales in the pantry that could probably be sold if he desired to do that.

Jallorn
2010-07-22, 08:25 PM
That was well worth the 2 gp investment. So, how much for four shovels and two picks?

Rizban
2010-07-22, 10:04 PM
Light pick is 4gp, heavy pick is 8gp (just like in the PHB), and a shovel is 1gp.

Jallorn
2010-07-22, 10:11 PM
16 gp then, I'll get a light pick, a heavy pick, and 4 shovels.

In the morning, after a rest, Hara goes out and gets some tools. Returning, he makes sure the inn is all sealed up, then hands out the tools to his undead and commands the to dig a hole into the sewers.

Rizban
2010-07-22, 10:33 PM
Upon your return, you notice two guys trying to look in the windows to see why their favorite place has been shut down for so long with no explanation.

Jallorn
2010-07-22, 10:39 PM
Can I help? I've been put in charge of watching the place while the owner is out of town.

Rizban
2010-07-22, 10:46 PM
"Why would ol' Ferdi go out of town? He ain't never done that before. Who're you anyway?"

Jallorn
2010-07-22, 10:53 PM
Fresh off the boat, he hired me cause I was willing to work really cheap. Aint got no real skills, you know? Anyway, big emergency of some kind, or was it a party? Never could remember stuff like that. Hadda have him write down me rules, just in case you know. Sorry I can't lettu guys in, he said there was a bunch a hooligans that always trashed the place, now I'm sure it's not you, but just to be sure, he said not to let anyone in. Any other way I can help you?

I assume I should try a bluff check now?

[roll0]

Rizban
2010-07-23, 09:09 AM
They believe you, mostly.

"Alright, but you tell him Jed came by next time you see him. If you can get word to him, tell him it's important."

Jallorn
2010-07-23, 09:55 AM
Of course, I'll go write it down now. Hara enters the inn then, locking up once on the inside. He then doles out the tools and gives the command, also adding that they should be as quiet as possible.

Rizban
2010-07-23, 10:27 AM
They mill about wondering precisely what the command is.

Jallorn
2010-07-23, 10:35 AM
Dig a hole in the middle of the inn.

Rizban
2010-07-23, 10:42 AM
The common room or the kitchen?

Jallorn
2010-07-23, 10:45 AM
Whichever seems like the easiest fastest dig.

Rizban
2010-07-23, 10:47 AM
The wooden floor in the common room is quickly torn up and shoved towards the walls, the flagstone foundation beneath takes a little bit more time to move but not much, and soon large piles of dirt are forming haphazardly as the zombies dig.

Jallorn
2010-07-23, 10:47 AM
Hara waits patiently for the zombies to reach the sewers.

Rizban
2010-07-23, 10:49 AM
You hear the sound of someone banging loudly on the front door. Several flagstones and a large pile of dirt now block that particular entrance.

Jallorn
2010-07-23, 10:52 AM
Letting the skeletons continue to dig, Hara directs the zombies to use the dirt and flagstones to block the entrances, then grabs his things, shifting form to that of a young child, as well as his clothes. He then huddles in a corner as if scared.

Rizban
2010-07-23, 11:08 AM
They block the kitchen door too. They stack the dirt up as high as it will go over the windows. Using the tables in the common room and the stove and oven in the kitchen might help in securing the building.

Jallorn
2010-07-23, 11:11 AM
Thanks for the idea.

Hara directs the zombies to use other objects to reinforce the barricades, specifically, tables, chairs, beds, etc. He keeps constant track of their progress and corrects them if they get it wrong, though he still pay a little more attention to the skeletons.

Rizban
2010-07-23, 11:17 AM
The skeleton's shovels hit stone, most likely the roof of the sewer tunnel beneath. The zombies reinforce both doors and all the windows with anything they can find. You now hear banging on the back door as if someone is trying to force it open.

Jallorn
2010-07-23, 11:19 AM
Hara commands the zombies to return to the hole with their picks, and leaps into the pit himself. Get through this stone.

Rizban
2010-07-23, 11:24 AM
They pry the stones loose, and part of the hole collapses. Two of the zombies fall through, taking [roll0] falling damage. You smell foul sewer gases leaking up into the room.

Jallorn
2010-07-23, 11:28 AM
Hara clambers down, commanding the four skeletons to follow the two zombies and himself. He then strikes out into the sewers in an effort to get away from that region of town.

Rizban
2010-07-23, 11:37 AM
You head to the left, which is presumably west and towards the rest of town. You hear distant shouts as several of the city guard manage to break into the tavern and see the destruction.

Jallorn
2010-07-23, 11:42 AM
Hara continues through the sewers, with his undead following, for about fifteen minutes. Assuming he doesn't hear any guards chasing him, he takes a moment to resume the shape of the young man, and uses his charnel touch to heal the zombies' damage. Then he sets out to find an area of sewer that would make a defensible base of operations.

Rizban
2010-07-23, 11:46 AM
He hears an angry shout as three skulks attack. Their surprise attacks miss. Roll for initiative.

Jallorn
2010-07-23, 11:49 AM
Should I roll it collectively yet?

Rizban
2010-07-23, 05:31 PM
Roll collectively for the skeletons and again for the zombies and as normal for yourself.

Jallorn
2010-07-23, 05:45 PM

Hara

Fortunately, the undead will protect themselves and you without command, but they won't move to engage the enemy without orders to do so. This means that the skeletons and zombies just stand there on their turn taking total defense actions to protect themselves until your turn comes around and they can receive different orders.

Two of the skulks throw daggers at you from a distance, both of which hit home.[roll0]

Jallorn
2010-07-23, 07:02 PM
You mixed that up. I have 4 skeletons and 2 zombies. The zombies have the picks, and the skeletons have shovels.

Rizban
2010-07-23, 07:03 PM
The undead swarm and surround the skulks, one of the skulks takes several blows and looks fairly well injured.

The skulk with the crossbow drops it and pulls out a dagger, slashing at you. The other two skulks tumble to flank the same zombie and slash at it.

You manage to avoid the attack, but several large chunks of flesh are sliced from the zombie.

Rizban
2010-07-23, 07:07 PM
Oops, sorry about that. Even switching it around a bit, they do the same amount of damage to the skulk. I'll get it right next time around.

How about you roll for the undead?

Jallorn
2010-07-23, 07:07 PM
I'll wait till you let me know what you're doing about the mistake. We can just keep going if you want.

Ok then.

I'll post my response so you don't miss it.

Jallorn
2010-07-23, 07:10 PM
Hara swings his morningstar at the skulk right in front of him.

[roll0]
[roll1]

Rizban
2010-07-23, 07:15 PM
He misses. Please roll for the undead...

Jallorn
2010-07-23, 07:16 PM
What would the damage for a shovel be? As a club?

Rizban
2010-07-23, 07:19 PM
Shovel would be an improvised club, doing the same damage but with a -4 penalty.

Jallorn
2010-07-23, 07:41 PM

The two zombies hit the already injured skulk, and he falls to the ground.

The skulk attacking you turns to run away, provoking AoOs from two skeletons. The other skulk attacks the injured zombie, destroying it.

Sorry about being away all weekend. I had friends come in from out of state and didn't have time to get online.Skel4 hits, dealing 2 damage.

"Yeah?"

He tumbles past the undead, circling around you, and stabbing you for 4 damage.

Yeah, Hara responds, extending a hand wreathed in negative energy.

Inflict Moderate Wounds

That requires a touch attack.

Jallorn
2010-07-26, 12:05 PM
Are you sure? Range is touch, but the description says nothing about a touch attack. I could be wrong though.

Rizban
2010-07-26, 12:21 PM
If the range is touch, then you have to touch them, which always requires a touch attack, unless the target is willing to be touched.

He is not willing. :smallwink:

Ok then.

You slap your hand against his chest, suffusing his body with negative energy. He staggers and falls to the ground.

Jallorn

Hara looks to see if his other undead have caught the last one.

What should I roll?

Rizban
2010-07-26, 01:36 PM
The skeletons bring him down readily. The one you knocked down with the touch attack is still in the negatives. The others are dead.

Jallorn
2010-07-26, 01:52 PM
I suppose I should get some information from him first. Leaning down, Hara tries to bind any wounds and to drive away what negative energy remained in the body.

Just in case he isn't: [roll0]

Rizban

The DC is 15. He isn't. The 14 was close though...

You fail to staunch the bleeding, and his life ebbs away. You are now poised over his corpse.

Jallorn
2010-07-26, 04:36 PM
Hara sighs, I really didn't want to have to resort to this, he says before casting speak with dead.

I'll get back to you when I figure out exactly what I want to ask him.

Jallorn

Jallorn
2010-07-26, 11:11 PM
How many more of your kind are there?

Rizban
2010-07-28, 10:53 AM
"Many more. Enough."

Jallorn
2010-07-31, 10:53 AM
Where is the nearest safe defensible location in these sewers that does not have any of your kind in it?

Rizban
2010-08-02, 03:46 PM
"A short distance east of here, beneath the Mages' Quarter."

With the third question answered, the magic fades.

Rizban
2010-08-02, 07:53 PM
A terrible explosion suddenly rocks the entire city, and the ground shakes as if an earthquake were tearing the city apart. The sky lights up from a blast many times the brightness of the sun, and you are certain that certain death has at last come to claim you. As the brightness fades, you look toward the Mages' Quarter and see the last remnants of the horror burning directly towards the sky in a seemingly endless stream of raw, burning mana which threatens to tear reality asunder. What seems like an eternity passes as you stare, though it is likely only a few seconds, and at last the blast fades away. In the distance, you hear a building collapse, and you are certain that something horrible has been unleashed upon the city.

Jallorn
2010-08-14, 08:40 PM
Hara spends a good five minutes trying to figure out what he should do before finally deciding to act as if the explosion never happened. Directing the skeletons to pick up the useful bodies, he heads east. Meanwhile, he ponders something he heard about earlier.

There's a Gnome diplomat in Sesbury.

The Gnomish Magocracy traditionally has not recently allied with any of its neighbors, preferring to remain independent.

The Gnome diplomat is among the more powerful mages in his nation, though you don't know how powerful or what his specialty might be.

[hr]There's a Gnome diplomat in Sesbury.

Sesury has had a powerful magical tradition building within the past few years, and it is likely this which has drawn the attention of the Gnomes.

The original treaty was brokered by King Alben Rosen IV himself. You do not know who is handling it during the King's current illness.

Jallorn
2010-08-14, 10:04 PM
Hara continues east as he continues to process this information, as well as keeping an eye out for the defensible location.

What sort of check might I make if I wanted to put out the word that I'm looking for allies to help me with a job? Not saying I want to yet, just wondering.

Rizban
2010-08-14, 11:27 PM
Well, first, you'd have to leave the sewers and encounter other players' characters...

You travel east for a bit, until the tunnel begins to curve north. You fear that you have reached the end of the eastbound tunnel network and are now walking closer and closer to the river, where the sewage systems dump out.

You hear the sounds of something running through the tunnels behind you.

Jallorn
2010-08-14, 11:32 PM
Quietly, Hara directs his skeletons to place the bodies back down on the ground, then orders two of them to either side of the tunnel, ten feet away from him. The zombie he sends to investigate the noises.

I forget, did we say that Improved Eschew Materials was worth 50 gp, or 100? I think it was 50, yes?

Rizban
2010-08-14, 11:49 PM
I honestly don't remember. You'll have to find it in the recruitment or OOC thread, wherever it was.

The zombie continues to plod down the tunnel, not encountering anything.

Jallorn
2010-08-14, 11:56 PM
Hara calls his zombie back, then sets to work animating two of the corpses into zombies, leaving the body of the last one unanimated. If he can keep the body long enough, then he may be able to get a truly wonderful revenge upon it.

Pretty sure it's 50, since I could animate more than one zombie for free per casting of Animate Dead. I'm casting that twice by the way, creating two more zombies. Are they human zombies, or do they have another base?

Rizban
2010-08-15, 12:16 AM
It's 25gp per HD and can animate a number of HD up to twice your caster level with one casting, isn't it?

They are Skulks from Races of Destiny. If you don't have that, I can provide zombie stats. They have two racial HD.

Jallorn
2010-08-15, 12:19 AM
Yeah, but by casting it twice I can animate both for free.

Could you provide zombie stats?

Rizban
2010-08-15, 01:20 AM
2HD. Str13, Dex12.
Everything else as standard for a medium zombie.

Jallorn
2010-08-23, 02:03 AM
Hara continues towards his destination.

Rizban
2010-08-24, 10:53 PM
Where were you going again? Sorry, my life's been really hectic, and I've kind of lost track of most of what is going on here.

Jallorn
2010-08-24, 10:58 PM
I'm trying to find someplace in the sewer that I can defend. The dead thing told me there was one, "A short distance east of here, beneath the Mages' Quarter."

Rizban
2010-08-24, 11:01 PM
As you begin to approach the Mages' Quarter, the sewers become increasingly hard to navigate, as the shock waves from explosion have caused significant structural damage to the tunnel system.

Jallorn
2010-08-24, 11:03 PM
Perhaps this place will draw too much attention to me. They will be endeavoring to repair the damage. Hmmm, well, for now, it's a good safe place. Hara will continue to navigate the sewers as best he can, if it becomes impassable, he will abandon the attempt.

Rizban
2010-08-24, 11:13 PM
You feel like the defensible place of which the dead creature was speaking may have been within the initial blast radius. There is likely nothing left of it at this point.
