View Full Version : Tales of Astonishment!

You all meet in a tavern…or bar. The establishment’s name is the Devil’s Nest. There’s a band playing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMOhsvhF4Jw&feature=PlayList&p=0491BB58467EA67D&playnext_from=PL&playnext=1&index=21) on stage. The bar tender’s name Al Gorn, a rough, foul talking orc druid. The bar is hectic and people are talking loud and having perhaps too much fun when an old man starts to spasm and falls to the fall. He starts shouting “EXPLOSION!”

Then, moment later, there’s an explosion just like he predicted. The front of the bar is blown wide open. Smoke and wooden slitters flood inward. When the smoke clears you see a squad of armed guards. There’s at least twenty in number. They’re all wearing white armor and have white helms on and carry crossbows except for the man in front presumably the leader. His armor is engraved with gold trimmings. This man has a goatee and a long flowing cape. (you can roll a knowledge nobility and royalty to identify him)

He says “Everyone stay still so our men can shoot. I repeat: stand still and we’ll shoot. These men have really bad aim and can’t hit moving targets so be fair and stand still.”

"So is this a stick-up or what?" a particularly massive man (named Einar) asks, one hand resting gently on the hilt of his sword

Dr.Epic

Woodsman: The man infront says "We are the town guard and learned there is an outlaw hiding here. You're all under arrest!"

Woodsman
2010-07-18, 05:51 PM
"Now, now, I'm sure we can find this outlaw without going to the trouble of arresting everyone. What's his or her name, and what crimes did the outlaw commit?"

Goblinsplitter

Curn smiles to himself, hidden in the folds of his robes. "I wonder which one will scream the loudest..." But he can't help but think he should know the man in the cape...

Dr.Epic

Woodsman: "No. Too much time. Instead you're all being charged with the crime of accessory. No stand still so we can pump you full of crossbows bolts!"

edit: Goblinsplitter: You recognize the man as Colonel Griff Brightsword. He's a vicious officer in the royal army infamous for his brutal treatment of enemy forces.

Woodsman

"Oh, please. You're going to arrest all of us when we haven't even done anything?" Einar asks, eyes narrowing dangerously. "I assure you few will come quietly."

((How close is the nearest soldier?))

Goblinsplitter

Curn flings off his robes, revealing his undead nature, and walks right up to the Colonel, a smug look on his face. "It is a pleasure to meet such a great commanding officer as you my good sir." Curn extends his hand to shake the mans hand.

Dr.Epic
2010-07-18, 06:38 PM
Woodsman: "Enough out of you maggot! Come forward and prepared to get beaten, then arrested, then found unreasonably guilt in court, then spend the next 20 years doing backbreaking labor in prison, then painfully executed!"

ooc: The closest guy, the colonel, is 25 feet away.

Goblinsplitter: He looks at you hand and shouts "Quick! This one's trying to fight back." He draws his sword. "Quit resisting arrest!"

Woodsman
2010-07-18, 06:46 PM
Einar steps forward calmly. "All right. You wanna fight? Let's."

He draws his sword in one swift motion, fluidly swinging it at the colonel brutally.

"Lucas! Lucas?" said a rather small, lilac skinned girl-with draconic wings and an obscenely oversized flail. "Can I attack those stupid soldiers now?" she asked, taking said weapon into her hand, lifting it with seemingly little effort, as a small plug shot out of the air from the gourd on her back.

The soldiers in white continue to fire despite being blinded. Their aim hasn't been hurt that much. As they continue to shoot, two constructs walk between you and the soldiers. One is a gold-plated slow moving humanoid (http://gamesnet.vo.llnwd.net/o1/gamestar/objects/193178_main.jpg). The other is a small tripod with a dome for a head (http://www.gadgetonian.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/r2d2_robot.jpg).

Edwardine smiles as she tries to stand as tall as possible. "Easy isn't my game". She studies to construct quickly and tries to remember what she knows about constructs.
Knowledge Arcana (Constructs): [roll0].

Then she move back and tries to oversee the situation.
I am looking for: Distance between me and Gruff, me and the constructs, groups of soldiers close together. A map?

If I can already take an action I move 40 feet back, still having a standard action over, that depends on the situation how I use that.
If not: Initiative [roll1].

"Big nasty guard:
Please hit him hard;
Cut down on lard,

"They'll need to be healed;
Your weapons you'll wield
In bars or in fields,
With perfect finesse.

"Now they run away,
Run for a day.

The goddamned bastards trying to interrupt our drinks and arrest us for crimes we never committed."

"Well, do you see any corpse? No corpse, no crime. And that your commander decided to strip out of his armor to retreat is disturbing, but should place no guilt on us"

"Whatever, I'm leaving before you guys decide to kill me." The guard starts walking away.

OOC: Dunno what to do... plunder and loot I guess.

Edwardine searches through the rubble of the building and the pockets of dead mans and robot-golems looking for any valuable.

[roll0]

Edit: that looks like epic loot

Dr.Epic

Rannil: You search through the rubble. You find only a few gold pieces; 11 gp.

in the front of the bar, there are halflings playing around with Griff's exoskeleton. You also see a new whole blasted into the bar. A new character stands in this whole.

(OOC: whole, vole (http://www.christianhomeschooler.info/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/bank-vole1.jpg)or hole?)

Rannil
2010-07-25, 02:02 PM
OOC: I think he means a whole hole, maybe a vole is escaping from it, but a whole hole indeed.

Not in a trusting mood, Edwardine studies the new character.

Spot: 1d20+1

Einar also studies this new character. "Who're you?" he asks

Rannil: The guy looks like this:

Woodsman: The person says "Oh, don't mind me. I was just hearing all the explosions and didn't want to be left out. It sounded like fun."

"Right..." Lachtan sighs
"At least I'll get out of here before I get some of your crazy on me"

Dr.Epic

narmoth: You leave the bar. A large crowd of people stands outside it wondering and asking what is going on with all the explosions.

Edwardine follows Lachtan outside, for no other reason then the fact he is a PC interesting.

Dr.Epic
2010-07-25, 04:45 PM
Rannil: You continue to be in a fuss about all the explosions. They look worried. They heard imperial forces were here.

Narmoth
2010-07-25, 04:52 PM
Lachtan looks for a spot in the shadow, then turns to Rannil
"So, what's your story? You seem accustomed to that kind of incidents, as the one inside" he asks in a low voice

Rannil
2010-07-25, 04:52 PM
"People, people. Do not worry. Nothing happened, just someone handing out free gold and a few others overreacted. Even the walls wanted a share and left, so that's why there are holes. And there where no Imperial guards, just a bunch of drunk soldiers bluffing that were Imperial."

Although I got the feeling no one is going to believe me, here is a roll to prove my feelings.
Bluff: [roll0]
Edit: OOC: Owh heya ninja.
I see a 19, i misuse that.

Seeing the people lightly distracted Ewardine dives into the shades next to Lachtan. "I'm a State Alchemist, or rather, soon to be a State Alchemist. Things like this always happen where ever I travel." She whispers back.

Narmoth

"Well, it's nice to meet you. My name is Lachtan. I'm simply traveling the land, with no particular destination. I prefer to attract much less attention than what happened there, but since trouble seems to find me even when I'm actively avoiding it, I wouldn't say no to traveling companions" he smiles
or trail rations, as they also are called he thinks silently before continuing
"At least not to anyone as adept in combat as you are"

"Pleasure to meet ya. Names Edwardine. To be honest I shouldn't attract that much attention, I do am on official business. Some kind of investigating and I think what just happened is related. Glad to have someone that can watch my back." She smiles and bows while she wonders: 'Some one else attracting trouble, is this related, I should find those others then.' "If you want to help me, we might get some clues finding those others that fought against the imperial."

P.S. DM
If I like you can send me my mission or whatever I am investigating. Much more fun then making one up myself.

"Rumors about monsters, I can't name names you know. But I have a location that might be "filled with monsters". I just don't trust the imperial guard here. Monsters appear, and they appear too..." Edwardine says, getting way to personal with her mission.

"Not really, but I would bet the real monsters are the imperial." Edwardine rolls her eyes. "But we should at least try to get those other fighters, even if they nothing, I guess I need some help assaulting a monster lair." She looks around to see if she can recognize the other PC's.

Spot check: [roll0]

Edit: I tried?

The Empire gave you the mission. The Empire runs this nation and unlike Star Wars and most Sword and Sorcery tales, the Empire is not evil and corrupt. That colonel you just fought was, but the rulers aren't. As for the spot check, I'll say it's high enough just to get you guys to form a group and be off.

Rannil
2010-07-30, 01:20 PM
OOC: Sorry, guess I automatically hate anything with imperial in the name.

For the sake of logic, let's change the mistrust to the corrupted officer and how strange that is. I'm to lazy to change my earlier posts to reflect that.

IC:

Edwardine waves to others. "Hello, you just were in that bar fight, or whatever is left of that bar. My name is Edwardine and I am sort of investigating stuff here, and was wondering, do you know anything about that attack on the bar? Or monsters?"

Lachtan you don't seem to spot anything that interesting except a man with a pumpkin for a head having a conversation with a ostrich. Don't know how you guys missed that.
