View Full Version : Maybe that's what happened to V...

Somewhere else on this forum I read that items that share simmilar effects to the Girdle of Femininity/Masculinity have a 10% chance of stripping the wearer of their gender completely without replacing it with the opposite one. There are many clearly gendered elves in OOTS and objects like this do exsist in the OOTS universe, perhaps early on in V's career, they experimented with the wrong magic items and was stripped of their gender.

Now, thoughts?

It's not the least unlikely idea I saw but I doubt it. They removed that girdle easily enough without stripping that giant of her gender. Besides, based on V's personality, I doubt (s)he would experiment with those types of things.

You got me on the personality, but as Elan says, "a 1 in 10 chance is pretty unlikely..."

It's not the removal of the belt that does it, I don't think, it's the wearing of it.

So V's spouse ended up wearing one too? Maybe they were both attending some wild party during the 700s :smallwink:

(yes I know they're not really that old)

Yeah, except this applies to the entire race of elves (V's wife/husband for instance). Unless this can be explained by some weird elven ritual, this theory is unlikely.

Most of the other elves are less ambiguous than V, because we can see their body type or other clues.

Whuh? Besides Lirian, Zz'dtri, and possibly the Team Peregrine Commander (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0707.html), who else is there? Inkyrius, Aarindarius, V's children, Team Peregrine Lieutenant, Team Peregrine wizard, Team Peregrine cleric, the Team Harrier elves (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0705.html), the dozens of elves seen in SoD, blue-haired elf (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0238.html)...Would you mind sharing what genders those elves "clearly" are?

EDIT: And of the only 2 elves with confirmed genders, one only has a clearly established gender for plot purposes (Dorukan) and the other because he is a copycat of a pre-existing male character.

It has something to do with the facial position. Call it an artist's eye or whatever, but there are some faces lower than others that indicate a difference between male and female.

Now that I read my post over again, it does sound pretty unlikely.

Lirian could have just as easily been male if the Giant so picked. There's no plot reason she was female, she just was.

Plot reason that she had a clearly defined gender. (Though I suppose both Lirian and Dorukan could have been gender ambiguous (or even gay; the Giant seems to have no problem with that), but it would have been trite using the same gag on 2 important characters. And would have messed up Serini and Xykon's innuendos.)

No matter, V's mate seems to have some clearly amorous intentions.

And besides, how can/does a gender neutral person pee?

Up against a tree, same as everyone else of course! (http://www.go-girl.com/)

I don't think the idea of a ungendered V as a result of an accident can be accurate. It will make it less humorous and more tragic.

I only wonder if we'll see in the end or if it will remain a mystery forever

I thinkl the greater question is how does an elf pee? We know they don't sleep...
