What is the usual background for the Warlock/Binder/Hellfire Warlock/Ur-Priest/Eldritch Theurge?

Does anyone knows about an "iconic" character? Maybe something in the deeps of the late wizards forum when the build was proposed?

By "background" do you mean you want fluff? Or a build?

Your only problem fluffwise is that Ur-Priests don't usually worship a deity but Eldritch Disciple requires one. The Ur-Priest adaptation fixes that. (Worship a dead god, or one that has slipped into obscurity.)

Would tenebrus fit the bill?

Yes, or Moander, or Myrkul etc. Or even just make one up. Or worship something that grants spells but isn't quite a deity - a Lord of 9, Elder Evil etc.

My only problem with the Ur-Lock is that you have to be evil.

Just tell your DM you only steal from the evil gods, therefor you are really doing good by makeing them weaker slightly. Make yourself CG and have your DM let you around the alignment restriction. If he is letting you pull cheeze like that then you obviously have a nice DM. Ether that or find some way to count as evil without being evil. I think there is a ritual in one of the splat books. I would need to bookdive to find it.

With sufficient fudging, Hellbred could do it.

As for being RAW, note that the Eldritch Disciple requires you to worship a god, not to gain spells from it. Ur-priests, in turn, generally disdain gods, but the rules don't actually require you to avoid worshipping gods altogether. As an example, have your character worship Olidammara. A Chaotic Neutral god gives you the best abilities from Eldritch Disciple, and you can describe yourself as stealing your divine magic from the gods, and venerating the master theif. The binder level can be theftlike as well. Naberius is a tricksterly being, and he may have offered to aid you with your sneaky ways in exchange for speech gigs.
