Opinions and build suggestions? I'm thinking Rogue 20/Assassin 10, but I'm not sure.

Also, MMIII mentions that Changelings often revere a deity known as "The Traveller". Does anyone know anything more about this deity, or could it be a pseudonym for Fharlanghn?

Definitely throw some Warshaper in there. At least the first 4 levels.

Being that I don't have MMIII i'm going to make a wild guess that the Changelings there are the same as in Eberron.

I personally think that Changelings are a great deal of fun with a large variety of possible builds.

One of my personal favorites sadly never got the chance to be played but was essentially Conjurer/master specialist/ malconvoker/archmage who could summon things that could make any DM cry. There is also the sorcerer version, but doing that gives up the goodies in master specialist in return for charisma based casting and a much higher Bluff check.

Changelings also make great social characters, slipping easily into bard, beguiler, and rogue.

Oh and one last thing, Changelings get a +10 RACIAL bonus to disguise when they use their Shapeshifting ability, meaning it stacks with a Hat of Disguise allowing you to pull off some ridiculous shenanigans.

The Traveller is an Eberron deity. Chaotic Neutral trickster.

It's pretty much impossible to give meaningful build advice with only race to go on unless the race is heavily slanted towards a particular role. Changelings are not. Play whatever you want to play, but also be a shapeshifter. That's pretty much it.

Here is an article on the Traveler (http://eberron.wikia.com/wiki/The_Traveler), from the Eberron Wiki. Enjoy.

Be a Chameleon. Because, hey, Changelings qualify...

I'm currently playing a Dread Necro changeling. One of my backup plans for if my evil plans ever get thrown off the tracks is to take the shape of a child and say the necromancer kidnapped me. Then I start over elsewhere.

Technically no, they are neither a human nor a doppelganger. But I have yet to meet a DM that actually says no.

I think you missed the adaptation section:

If you're using the EBERRON Campaign Setting, the chameleon prestige class should be available to changeling player characters as well as humans and dopplegangers. In this case, the Able Learner feat extends to changelings as well.

Recaster is one of the best spellcaster PrCs out there and Changling Wizard racial substitution levels are very nice (5th level allows your familiar to shapeshift into a different type of familiar at will). Combine for epicness.

That sounds nice! Where can I find these substitution levels?

Races of Eberron. I have to agree that Recaster is awesome. It's like an Incantatrix light. Less cheese, but less requirements too.

if you're going to play a changling, you should really really really (enough?) read "races of Eberron", tha changling section particularily. it offers several mind sets (you're not limited to them, but they might inspire), there are a bunch of feats and magic items that would help a changling do very well.

it also holds the racail substituion levels, (the changling rogue gets 10 skill points per level and is a social master) and a few PRCs that are quite nice (the recaster has been mentioned allready)

As Kamikasei said- it's hard to think of a build jut upon a race. read, think, and when you have a mroe established idea, we might be able to help you.

Minor change shape is based on disguise self. You can't change height by more than +/- 1 foot from your natural height. So, it's unlikely you can impersonate a child (or any Small or Large creature). Unless of course you waive that rule at your table, which I certainly wouldn't blame you for.

Impersonate a virgin sacrifice then. Tell them he kidnapped you for some horrible ritual.

Most "kids" are already quite tall at around age 12/13 or so. Shrink yourself down by a foot, make yourself look like a 12 year old girl, practice your sob stories (and sobbing, of course) and you should be good unless the guys that find you are violent psychotic hobos that kill everyone/everything thinking it is a trap :smalltongue:.

Whether or not I would allow it depends entirely about how overboard the player asking gets about following RAW at the expense of RAI when it is beneficial to them.

RAW abuse player: "I take a level in Chameleon and..."
Me: "Nope, sorry, you are not a human or a doppelganger, can't do it"
player: "but, but, it says here in Races of Destiny that.."
Me: "Sorry, it specifically says 'if you are using the Eberron campaign setting', which we are not, so no."
player: "Oh come on, you can clearly tell that they intended for it to be allowed for changelings as well!"
Me: "They also intended for drowning to kill you as opposed to heal you, but that didn't stop you from wasting an hour of our time arguing that you should be healed 'because it is RAW and if I don't allow it I am breaking the rules' so now here you go, I am giving you your wish."
player: :smallfurious: (but can't say anything cause he knows I'm right)
Me: :smallamused:
