Caliga materialised on his end of the arena. He adjusted his robes, ensuring the hood was pulled down. Yet, as he gestured towards his shadow, causing it to become his cards, one could, if they looked hard, could see the faint glimmer of a glow around Caliga.

[Blue Ghost]

Blue Ghost appears on the other side of the arena in a flash of blue flame. Certainly, good Caliga. I have a Shadow Game of my own devising. You see, as a wizard, I spend a good deal of my time researching new spells. When I was still a foolish young idealist pursuing dreams of love and truth, I devised a spell that can extract a person's essence from their soul and condense it into liquid form. I was weak and foolish, and used this spell for no more than brewing potions and baking cookies--idiot that I was! But now, my full potential has been reached, and this spell has been perfected! Epic essence binding!

The Hummingbird glyph on Blue's arm flashes, and each duelist is surrounded by a visible aura, blue for Blue Ghost, and shadowy black for Caliga.

In this game, with each Life Point you lose, a drop of your essence shall be taken from you until, when you lose your last Life Point in the final duel, your soul will be sucked dry and all your power will be mine.
Now, let the Shadow Game begin. Only one of us shall leave this arena alive.

I then tune Summoner Monk and Night's End Sorcerer to Synchro Summon Tempest Magician (http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Tempest_Magician)! I remove the Spell Counter that Tempest Magician receives to activate its special ability, Arcana Gale! First blood is mine!
A blast of arcane wind knocks away 500 of Caliga's Life Points. A wisp of smoke emerges from Caliga's souls and is absorbed into the Hummingbird mark.
Next, I discard Torrential Tribute from my hand to activate Tempest Magician's ability, and add a Spell Counter to my Breaker the Magical Warrior. I remove that Spell Counter to destroy your Rivalry of Warlords.
Tempest Magician attacks and destroys Grave Squirmer. Which card will you destroy with your fiend's effect?

He put a hand to his face; he casually pulled his mask off, throwing it to the floor. Upon his now-blank face, a face stood; imagine, if you will, a skull. Now, put a skin, put teeth, put eyes into it; give it hair. You can now see Caliga; his golden eyes stare thousands of yards ahead, his face frozen in the rictus of one who has embraced death. When he spoke, light played upon his shadows; his shadows spoke for him. "Let's get dangerous; I'll start."

"Now, be prepared! It is time you faced what facts there are: only darkness is eternal, and even you shall fall into it! I summon the Phantom Skyblaster; he reproduces to create a token of himself, but all things are fleeting! Long ago, I made my contract with the abyss... (http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Contract_with_the_Abyss)"

As the Big Bang was shown earlier, so do the souls of Caliga flow into the ground to form a tableau of events; it shows a man who looked similar to Caliga; a peasant in a farming village, mud covered. But his face was not in the deathly smile that adorned Caliga's visage now. The frame flickered, skipped; a cow had trampled the Caliga-like being, crushing him underneath it's hooves. "I was like this at one time; in the year of 1346, I do believe. An accident; a cow was feeling a bit wild, I tried to restrain it; you'd be amazed at what a cow can do to one who is weak."

The image flickered; the souls reformed; they now became a black landscape, with a single beam of light. A table, designed for playing a children's card game, stood. A skeleton sat at one end, a black cloak covering him, with the human Caliga at the other; on Caliga's field, a Neo-Parshath, the Sky Paladin stood before an empty field. "Are you familiar with the concept of a game to cheat death? I was; I challenged him to what I had heard in folklore, based my deck off what I could recall. But I won, all the same. And Death said to me, You know, not all are so keen to take my place." I wondered what he meant; I thought nothing of it." The frame flickered again; the skeleton had fallen to pieces; however, his shadow was now at Caliga's feet. Souls were leave the bones of the skeleton, fluttering away. "I was surprised, at first. I had Death's shadow following me around; I thought it was a bit cool. Then I looked at my hands." The souls shifted; his hand had faded, becoming nothing.

"I had wondered why Death had made himself in the form of a skeleton. Then I knew; it was all he could bind himself to. But I couldn't use his bones, or my body; all I had was the souls that were leaving. And so I did; but now, I cannot unbind them. I am not the new Death, but I am what Death was. I am the composite of all who have fallen and were bound to Death by his games. And so, here I am. But in the end, all things must come to an end. NOW, FEEL MY WRATH TAKEN FORM! Rise up, DEMISE, King of Armageddon! Take me from this fleeting plane, devour everything! End this world and all others!"

With Demise residing over the field, Caliga's shadow paused. "But now, I must strengthen myself; I lay one card face-down and activate Solidarity to power up Demise! Now, Demise shall attack you, foul demon! Fall!" After the attack, Caliga stopped, awaiting the next move of the Earthbound Immortal.

The souls rose up, creating a swarm of locusts that devoured the field. "Now, even my King shall vanish; he'll be subsumed by the Great Maju Garzett!" The ringing cry of Caliga was merely a prelude to Garzett; foul-smelling things ripped themselves from the flesh of Demise; they broke his armour, as the parasitic Garzett rose up from them. "Heed my words, cur! I, Caliga Sententia, condemn you to death! Now, begone from this world and all others! Garzett, attack!"

A horrid, unearthly scream utters from the wizard's mouth as the attack hits. The Mark of the Hummingbird flashes, covering the arena in blinding light.
When the light clears, the mark has vanished.

Caliga freezes up as Ghost's being is snuffed out. He doesn't take it personally; get angry, lose his temper. Instead, he brings back in his shadows and his souls, returning to his original shape; he scoops up his mask, gently allowing it to rest over his face. He waits; the door to the third level appears, but he ignores it.

He waits, looking around. Waits more; then, he looks up, sharply; looks at the walls, at the glow-globes and at the floor. The floor is irregular; it has ridges and rises, sinks and slips. Shadows flick around it; but Caliga had long since adapted to seeing shadows; he looks into them. But if he's worked this out, it should be there; and that ridge, just there... it's shadow is longer than it should be. He would grin if he wasn't doing so eternally; so, he merely motioned with his shadow, which discreetly moved over to the longer-than-normal shadow; his shadow made an ungainly movement towards it; in no more than a few moments, the longer-than-normal shadow was surrounded by Caliga's sentient shadows; the concept of a wolf-pack was not dissimilar, and saying "wolf-pack" would probably make you think of the right thing. Caliga nonchalantly walked in the direction of the shadow, before giving a sudden leap, plunging his hand into the shadow, grabbing it, subduing it, controlling it.
