I need some help deciding on a monster to use for my Effigy Master, I have 16,500 gold at my disposal. This is for a PVP so I was looking for something that could hopefully grapple. The Characters will all be 11th level.

Thanks

Do you have xp for item creation? Feats to reduce item creation costs?

What's your cheese tolerance? Effigies are very easy to abuse because their cost is HD-based, so you can theoretically stack absurd amounts of templates on a creature, then make an effigy of it for ridiculous stats and low GP cost.

I'm going to have to end up at 10th level. So i have as much exp from 10th to 11th.

And I'm all for cheese as long as its legal.

Enjoy. It costs 15,000GP and 800Xp to make.

The effigy template cheese is of the "it doesn't explicitly say that I can't make an epic CR monster for a few thousand gp" variety. I probably wouldn't DM a game for someone who even suggested it (in all seriousness). :smallsigh:

No go on that on, my DM says that it needs to be something directly out of a book.

So no templated monsters then. That makes it harder.

Some ideas:

Cave troll (MMIII): Strong, decent grappler, pounce, rend.
Rukanyr (Fiend Folio): 10 natural attacks, stunning strike.
Darktentacles (MMII): Lots of attacks (if multiple opponents), +16 racial bonus on grapple checks. Very slow, so works best if you can buff it with a fly spell of some sort.

Keep in mind that you can (probably) add more HD to the basic version if the "creature advancement" says that higher HD creatures exist.

Also keep in mind that you can add magic items. Effigies can't speak, so some items are out unless the DM lets you make a slightly different versions with non-verbal activation.

Edit: Oh, and don't forget to buff your monster with spells.
