The City of Underdark is in troubled times. The mines that sustain the city have been failing, and something has been disturbed in the depths. The gods warn of the awakening of evil; certainly, attacks by vermin and creatures of the dark have started, as if summoned by something, and following them are kobolds and goblins. The sunpower that powered the defensive devices is running out and now is unusable, leading to an retreat and a rise of the Drow warriors, a sect of the Underdark military who have trained the same and are deadly warriors. They earn a distrustful respect from the other races, still being the arrogant cruel elves they are.

Herds of animals depending on the Mushroom matter have grown thin and are hungry, and the Gnomes who manage the mushrooms are blaming the Sunstone mining as the problem...

You sit on the edge of a chasm, having being ordered to investigate the Drow captain Darius, a champion Scorpion knight. The orders come from high up, though all you have been told is that they know what you did, and you will be free after this conflict. You don't know much about the other adventurers, but you've been told they've all been picked for good reasons.

I Would like everyone to make Know and Bardic Know checks (if you can) to see how much I tell you. I will also factor in your background. Please post in this format,

A beautiful woman sits on the edge of the chasm, her bountiful chest constrained within a skin-tight black sleeveless bodysuit that stretches from her neck to her feet. A dozen sharp knives and a dozen guns are holstered and sheathed all over her body via dozens of leather straps, making her into something like a walking armory. The visible skin on her arms is charred and burned horribly, and her head is completely bald, scarred and withered like her arms. She wears a black mask with glowing orange lenses and a metallic canister hanging from her cheek.

Her breath hisses and echoes creepily inside the mask as she stares down into the chasm, contemplating.

I knew I shouldn't have gotten here first...

"It's all very well telling a bunch of strangers to show up at the same place and time, but it never really works out that way, does it? No, some people come early and some people come late and it's all a right mess getting everything straightened out..."

Liselle had mainly been talking to fill up the silence before the others caught up with her.

She hoped they wouldn't be too long... and luckily for her, they were not. A woman covered in weapons turned up a bare six minutes after Liselle had done. She didn't seem to be the talkative sort... but she was something.

Besides, the quiet ones are the ones least likely to tell the others if you have a panic attack and need someone to calm you down...right?

The woman's expressionless black mask turns its glowing orange gaze towards her and regards Liselle dispassionately. "Nervous?" she rasps with a voice like a dying bird on sandpaper.

Reve

The sound of a man's voice begins to echo through the cavernous halls along with the skrtch-skrtch of footsteps. In the distance, a slightly tall man in plain clothes -- save for a shining pair of bracers worn over the ends of his sleeves -- comes into view, carrying a sack over his shoulder, escorted by a soldier. He appears to be of an average build, if a bit less muscular than most, and by the sound of his voice he would seem to be rather perturbed.

"I just don't see why I would have been chosen to do something like this, I'm an apothecary!" He says to the soldier, looking around incredulously. When he gets no response from the armored man, the apothecary sighs and looks ahead towards the chasm. Supposing to himself that this must be the place -- judging by the heavily armed black shape and the woman beside it. Glancing at the guard as he turns to leave, the apothecary shakes his head to himself before turning to more closely examine his apparent companions in greater detail.

Upon closer inspection, he is able to make out the black shape as a woman -- although if not for the distinct silhouette of her curves he would not have been as sure. He feels a chill of goosebumps wash over him as he looks over her heavily burnt flesh, at least that which is showing. By the hells, what happened to her?

Deciding it would be very much against his interests to continue staring at the disfigured arsenal of a woman, he looks instead to the next comrade, the Grey Elf. For the first few moments he finds it difficult to place the colour of her hair, as it is masked by the fine layer of dirt that seems to coat the rest of her body as well. Once he has discerned that it is some shade of red, he decides that this person is much less intimidating to look upon than the frightening woman beside her.

It is at this moment that the man realizes that he has been standing perfectly still and in complete silence during his entire scrutiny of his new-found companions. Raising his free hand to his mouth, he clenches it into a fist and coughs into it, to break the silence if nothing else. "Yes, well, erm..." he starts with plain embarrassment. "Er, h-hello."

Oh, no, I've gone and done it again!

A 6'2 man, of a large muscular build walks into the room. His footsteps fall heavy on the floor -- he's heard before he's seen. When he moves out of the gloom it becomes noticeable that he's wearing worn and weathered working clothes and backpack. It's possible to make out an outline of something underneath his shirt. His hair's dark, he's got a moustache, a long face, and rather large hands. He looks around, and notices three other people there. "What a bunch of oddballs?" He fiddles with a small ring on his left hand, upon hearing Reve say something and break the awkward silence he says, "Righto, uh what exactly are we doing, investigating this Darius chap right?"

"Hello!" Liselle seems a little too enthusiastic about her greeting, and promptly springs back to her feet to faice the new arrivals.

"Yes, we're here for investigations. Name's Liselle, Liselle Diapai. And you are?"

The question wasn't aimed at anyone in particular - just to the gathering in general. But her attention seemed firmly fixated on Reve - who she'd decided to be the friendliest of those present...

Reve turns again to look at Liselle, giving her another once-over uncertainly. Why is she looking at me like that? He wonders to himself. She probably thinks I'm daft. With a brief glance between the muscled man and the masked woman, he composes himself -- recovering as best he can from his lapse earlier -- and introduces himself. "And I am, er, Reve Vattic. I-I work as an apothecary in town." It is plain from his nervous mannerisms that he is not quite accustomed to being thrust as he was into such circumstances, and social graces are obviously not his strong point.

He sets down the bag that he had been carrying over his shoulder; it is rather simple in its appearance, and looks as if it should be no heavier than a pound or so, but it would seem that it alone makes up for a large portion of the weight that Reve carries.

A harsh, hideous sound comes from the black-garbed woman's mask; it takes those around her a few moments to realize that the halting, choking noise is actually supposed to be laughter.

"Melgora," she rasps at Reve, still chuckling. "Jumpy little squirt, aren't you?"

Archdeacon GX

Local:

Times are bad, but the spirit is defiance. Despite the events unfolding, people are still working normally. However, groups of religious humans and elves are joining the military now, more than before, for unexplained reasons. Perhaps they feel something terrible is coming.

History:

In times gone by, the city of Underdark was built by Dwarves who are now all but absent. From a historian's point of view, you can recall the discovery of SunStones, the stones of power that raidate sunlight, used to power all sorts of devices in the underdark. You recall the arrival of the Drow, fleeing from a Goblin onslaught, and they exist relatively peacefully alongside the other races. You as an Apothecary remember when the drow arrived, the days when you were taught how to neutralize various vermin poisons.

The Humans arrived before the Drow but after the dwarves, after a climactic underground battle when a force of evil threatened the underground city. A Human hero named Kirion fought alongside the dwarves along with his group of adventurers, Elrith, the Elven Ranger, Borts, the Dwarven Engineer and Tyrael, the Gnome Cleric. Whatever they did is unspoken of amongst anyone, even historians like you.

Over the years you have noticed a decline in the Gnome populations, yet this is mainly due to the more reserved nature of the gnomes with regards to reproduction.

Arcana

Though your study of arcana you uncovered many facts and figures relating to craetures of magic and the way the city was built.

The first creatures here besides the Dwarves were actually kobolds, a small community that was called "The Watchers" in Draconic tongue. They built several Simularca, constructs of power who could hold the line on sacred sites. They are statues.

The city was built with a lot of help from a unit of Earth Sorcerers (dwarves). They created enchantments from the power of earth that would suspend many constructions above the ground and save manpower: the floating tombs are a testament to the sorcerers' help, being their final resting place.

The construction of the city was layered. Under the main streets there are several layer of underground catacombs; The mines encroach on these, yet the educated are unsure of just how far the mines have gone into the catacombs.

The power of the Sunstones is something that has not been uncovered. It has been found that Sunstones merely are receptacles for power, including psionic power, but where the original energy came from is unknown.

The Planes

Earth elementals form competant military units under their summoners. In particular, Dwarven sorcerers are adept at summoning such powerful elementals, however the Geodite, a elemental steward, small creature, is favoured as a companion.

Geodites are small humanoid shaped elementals who combine strength with great reislience. They can burrow quite quickly, and are often found int he service of Psionic adventurers.

The energy of the sunstones is similar to pure elemental energy, the kind that can be obtained from the essence of a demon or celestial.

You are to keep the secrets of the sunstones to yourself. You are also required by your commander to find out more about the sunstones.

Liselle

Local:

You are aware of the halfing activity around inthe Underdark:
The Halfling community mainly provides scouts and entertainers, as well as druids. Halfling thieves are common, though not dominant and generally sanctioned by the rulers elite. Halfling lizard riders are often the outriders who may plant traps and explosives to aid the main defenders.

Locally, thieves are ramapnt as the poverty strikes. As the mines see deaths each day, breadwinners are lost so the children generally strike out in attempts to find food. Such children are often caught discretely and put into a sitting with a priest or cleric, then given the spares scraps of the nobles, who still live a rich lifestyle.

Nature:

The Mushroom forests have been a curiousity along naturalists. The mushrooms are (this is rarely known, not many have seen the mushrooms) 10ft tall and living. They have feathered leaves and the hair, when soaked, becomes effectively a kind of pasta which is nutrionally beneficial.

The mushroom forests are failing lately though, due to the lack of power from the diminsihing suntone which they "feed" off.

Darren:

Local
As always, humans are found in many roles. The temples of the humans are focal points for all races, indicative of the pious nature of the human race. Several human warrior groups exist, either heavily armoured shock troopers, archers/musketeers, and Sorcerers. Human magic users generally wear rugged combat gear, except the wizards who wear immaculate robes based on their alignment, followed by servants and often having an air of superiority. Psionic characters are emerging as a result of exposure to sunstones, primarily amongst these are the miners who manifest hidden talent.

In human society, lower class families have no education and only speak common and sign language. They are paid little, but enough and commonly work as builders or miners. The next higher is warriors, of any type. The next class is Sorcerers, having being born in a poor family but respected due to their power. The higher class is servants and aides, a prestige role that can only be accessed by an educated individual. The highest is the elite rulers.

As you move, a dull thump is heard behind you all. On the front of its carapace sits a regal looking figure in plated armour with a long thin lance with a small but long blade, a runed shield and a red cape. The figure raises a mailed gauntlet and raises his visor, revealing a chillingly handsome albino dark elf with milky red eyes.

Reve casts a spell of light, helping you see better. Darius looks a bit miffed, but nods. " Make sure to cover it when we approach the battle, please. "

Reve Only:

Darius gives the ever so slight shake of his head.
" There's nothing I can say without causing a feud between the factions of the military. She might take your friend, watch your back. I'll do my best. "

Reve nods uncertainly, looking to Melgora as she arrives. She can fly? he wonders to himself.

DM:
Reve isn't sure which female Darius was speaking of. So he asks: "Well...which one did you mean?"

Darren

Darren looks towards Reve the source of the light. "Huh, neat trick that."

He then looks to Darius, "Uh, who are we fighting? Is it goblins, kobolds, creatures of the dark or something else?"

The White Scorpion Knights advance, getting closer to the battle. Darius says something to Darren, but the rest of you don't hear as the wind and battle sounds cut it out. Melgora's guard simply waves a hand at her and slows, waiting to see if the woman will mount the Scorpion.

Liselle's Scorpion Knight lags behind a bit.

Reve Only

" The Anxious Elf, the one afraid of being left alone. Please, cover the light, would you? "

He shouts to Darren " Kobolds, mostly. I supect a fair number of Earth Sorcerers, so look out. "

Darren Only

You see Darius whispering to Reve, though he shouts to you " Kobolds, mostly. I supect a fair number of Earth Sorcerers, so look out. "

Lisselle Only

" Afraid of the dark, Elf? " says the rider, a female.

The apothecary leans over and looks ahead of Darius, quietly dismissing his cantrip. Everything is dark once more.

Melgora mounts up on the scorpion and looks ahead to the battle tensely, her breath rasping harshly through her mask.

Darren utters under his breath, "Bloody Kobolds." He looks back up at Darius and yells, "Will we be fighting them?"

You enter the light behind a startling site: Dwarven warriors defend earth bariicades from Frenzied kobolds. Sling bullets wiz through the air, and the air crackles with arcane energy. A human psion points a hand and cuts down a swathe of kobolds, but is pummeled into the dirt by an earth elemental.

You emerge out and see more: 3 Kobold sorcerers stand at the back, guarded by several "elite" kobolds with heavy halberds. There's a giant crossbow thing (a ballistae) you can see and you spot a worrying movement towards the back of the dwarves position.

RFI, everyone!

Reve looks out at the scene of the battle grimly, and with some obvious discomfort. Bracing himself, he tries to prepare himself should he have to participate.

A cruel smirk twists Melgora's lips beneath the expressionless mask over her face as she scans the Kobolds, choosing her targets.

You can look and see the kobolds are rather ineffective against the dug in dwarves, yet they still hold the dwarves up. You spot a few strapping some arcane cylinders to themselves, to the left of you as you come out of the tunnel.

Waiting on WhoIam; No map for this battle; It's too chaotic and is too complex. Just tell me where you're going etc and I'll make it work. Combat is bog standard, tho keep in mind things like bull rush ETC.

Tyrael, you might want to correct the Damage for you armanent attack, it should be 3d6.

"Looks like that Ballista is doing plenty of damage... But what are those things?", says Darren pointing towards the cylinders.

Darren moves over to the dwarf's positions, in an attempt to reaffirm it and maybe make a push towards the ballista.

Double Move Action, 60ft of movement in total.

I thought we arranged that Armament counted as a psi-like ability, so I took Point Blank Shot, Psionic Shot (+2d6 to damage), Psionic Endowment (+1 to DC to resist effects, which I assumed to apply to stuff like Bull Rush), Greater Psionic Endowment (+1 to DC again), and Power Specialization (+2 damage) as well as Empower Psi-Like Ability (+50% damage IIRC).
