Profession: Investment Merchant (Wis; Trained Only)
You have extensive knowledge of the merchant markets in your area, You provide consulting services for investors and use clients investment capital in merchant ventures that would provide an economic return.

You weekly personal Income is 3/4 your profession check in gold per dedicated week.

Try Again
An attempt to use a Profession skill to earn an income cannot be retried. You are stuck with whatever weekly wage your check result brought you. Another check may be made after a week to determine a new income for the next period of time. Additional income can be gained through Consulting Fees
An attempt to accomplish some specific task can usually be retried (Investment DC)

Synergy
If you have 5 or more ranks in Gather Information, you get a +2 bonus on Investment Checks.

Racial Bonus
Upto DM : Halfling has a +2

Untrained
Untrained laborers and assistants (that is, characters without any ranks in Profession) earn an average of 1 silver piece per day, but cannot recive Consulting Fees

Consulting Fees
You recieve an additional 1% revenue gained through client Investments

Investment DC
All investments inherit Risk, and regardless of the Risk level, loss is ALWAYS possible. However, through detailed knowledge and experience within your area, you are able to predict trends of market values of goods to maximize returns and minimize the risk.

How to Invest
Determine a Risk Level, according to Investors Risk and Reward desires and make a Skill Check Roll

RISK LEVEL ROI DC
Very High (Investment x 150%) 40
High (Investment x 125%) 30
Medium (Investment x 120%) 25
Medium-Low (Investment x 115%) 20
Low (Investment x 110%) 15
Very Low (Investment x 105%) 12

Note: Any Higher ROI can be considered illegal enterprises and has their own Risks :)


DC Check
Roll D20+Skill. A Skill roll equal to or exceeding the MAXIMUM PAYOUT DC of the Risk Level results in the investment returning that payout amount.
For every 1 point less then the Maximmum Payout DC, subtract 5% from the ROI, this is the Return on the Investment.

MODIFIERS
Term Length of Investment (Time): Investments that are allowed to be managed longer have a higher chance of ROI
For Every year of an investments Term, ADD +1

Insider Knowledge: Using the Synergy bonus, or having information on how much the Local Blacksmith guild is willing to pay the Miners this year for Iron ore.
Mis-Information: Be Wary, some information can be wrong by design, leading an investor to beleive he is getting a + 5 to the roll, when in fact it is -5

EXAMPLE 1
Grogg, the 8th level fighter, after his 2nd Raise Dead, has decided its time to start planning his retirement. But his nest egg is rather small, from the many brew houses and brothels over the years. He goes to see Merril Moneybags, the Halfling Investment Merchant .
Grogg has about 2000 Gold saved up, but thinks he needs a little more to retire comfortably in 6 years
After speaking with Merrill, Grogg decides to Invest 2000 in a high Risk investment for 6 years.

The DC of the investment is 40
Merrils DC Skill Roll Modifers are:
+3 : Wisdom 16
+16 :16 Ranks in Profession: Investment Merchant
+2 :8 Ranks In Gather Information
+6 :6 Year term of investment

Morrill rolls an 11
11+3+16+2+6=38 (2 Less then the DC, the Maximum ROI is reduced 10%)
Groggs Total Return on Investment after 6 years is 139% (140% -1% Investment Fee)


EXAMPLE 2
Vayron the Unsavory 9th level rogue, "has acquired" letters to a local shipping merchant, informing him that many of his ships in his merchant fleet were lost in a storm, with information on the goods lost that were destined for one of the kingdoms colonies
Vayron goes to to see Merril Moneybags, the Halfling Investment Merchant .

Vayron wants a fast turn around of his 5000 gold, with the highest return with minmal or no risk
Merrill reviews the Documents Vayron acquired, and deteremines this presents a great oppurtunity to get the jump on supplying the colonies with the now in demand items well above the local market price. The document is worth +8 for Insider Knowledge

Merril informs Vayron that, in a 6 month turn around:
He can garuntee the investment of a 25% (DC 30)--Merrill Can not fail a DC of 30
He can offer a possible return of anywhere between break even or 50% return (DC 40)

Vayron decides to go for broke
The DC of the investment is 40
Merrils DC Skill Roll Modifers are:
+3 : Wisdom 16

+2 :8 Ranks In Gather Information
+8 : Insider Knowledge

Morrill rolls an 8
8+3+16+2+8=37 (3 Less then the DC, the Maximum ROI is reduced 15%)
Vayron's Total Return on Investment after 6 months is 134% (135% -1% Investment Fee)

Once you start making rules about how to invest money beyond simple mercantile "buy low sell high" trading rules, you start to get uncomfortably close to real-world economic theory, which isn't much fun.

so after working hard for years to plan for the future, we can get together on weekends and play a game where we create make-believe characters who work hard for years to plan for the future?
