As he spoke, a ring of shadows erupted from the ground; they bent themselves into the shape of the Hummingbird, as souls flowed from Caliga, giving the floor a mirror-like sheen; the shadows of the duelists fell into it; while Buck's was flat, Caliga's seemed to simply be a reflection of him. The auras erupted from the duelists once again. "Whenever a player takes damage, kchahahaha, some of their soul is lost." Caliga paused. "But this is my Shadow Game! Even if you shall fall, you will merely be bound to me! When I am released from my curse, you shall also be released - you may return to life! Just let me try and undo it! Please! Free me from my torment!"

"I don't care what you are, I'm still going to win." Caliga shuddered; he seemed profoundly disturbed by something. He then shook his head violenty, before stopping. "I... am superior! I am... superioreriorerior..." He paused again, shaking his head. "I am above the influence..." As he spoke this, Caliga shattered. As if he had been transformed into glass and dropped from a great height, his form become flying fragments; they tumbled into the shiny surface of the Hummingbird beneath his feet; thus, it began to fill up with darkness; not merely the absence of light, but true darkness - dark light, if you will. It reached the outline of the sigil, then expanded; it reached the walls, went up. It reached the ceiling, and coated it. As the light globes were surrounded by the darkness and choked by it, the room suddenly became completely dark.

Then light came. A four-by-five grid appeared; longer vertically then horizontally; only the outlines of the rectangles were light, with the remainder of the room swamped in darkness. Yet, Buck was still illuminated; a rectangle and formed around him, too. On the other side of the field, there was nothing; beyond the rectangles, nothing.

And then a violet light appeared in the wall of shadows. Light in the shape of the Hummingbird. You may begin. It was not a voice, but a will - a force of nature, not a human voice.

He looked up, at Buck Walters, then sighed. The Hummingbird symbol flashed upon his mask, and Caliga faded into the shadows of the floor.
