View Full Version : You know you're here too often when...

So I log in, find a thread locked by the Giant himself and an infraction in my inbox from Roland. I find it questionable, and begin composing a short PM questioning the specifics of the action ...

.. then I wake up, and see that I'm still in the bed. It was all a dream. The Giant hadn't locked any of my threads. Roland hadn't sent me an infraction. In point of fact, I never HAVE received an infraction. Warnings, yes, but never any actual infractions.

DARN IT , ROLAND! GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!!

Roland is the Chuck Norris of moderators. I literally have nightmares about him.

I REALLY need to find another hobby.

Respectfully,

No, I have nightmares -- one nightmare, actually -- about Roland.

Which is ridiculous. He's a kicka* mod but he's (probably) not a real-life super-ninja assassin. Even if he is there are such things as laws. The worst he can do is ban me from GiantITP. And why should that bother me so much as to have nightmares about it? It's a web-board, for cryin' out loud, not the key to civilization.

Respectfully,

Brian P.

I've laid awake for two hours in the middle of the night thinking about my Werewolf games once, whether I was actually trusting the right person or not. It turns out I made the right choice but I quit playing for a month after that. Mental health and all.

Have not had dreams about specific playgrounders yet.

Well, there was that one dream where Lix Lorn was trying to seduce me...

And the one where i was chasing Lesser Minion with a laser chainsaw.

Or the one where i was the dragon in my avatar and was eating everyone...

And the one where Roland used me as a punching bag :smallannoyed:

I had a dream once that there was a Real werewolf game happening. Like, not real as in people sitting in a circle discussing who to lynch, real as in there were actual werewolves.
Oddly this was before I started playing. At the time I didn't actually know what it was, but in retrospect I'm pretty sure it was that.
Also, for some reason TwoBitWriter was a DarkOrange version of Brian from Family Guy. :smallconfused:

I had a dream where Matt Smith (of Doctor Who) became the Prime Minister and I had to go on a school outing to a sewer located in a theme park and I asked if I could not go to the sewer because I wanted to go to the roof to hang out with Lix.

I've had dreams about Playgrounders. Fairly often, both as in: iust posting on the forums and having a great time, and as in if the entire forum was turned into a small town and everyone lived there.
The latter was amazing by the way.

I've been deified by certain Playgrounders. That's definitely a sign.

But I've started accidentally using my nicknamesitP in real life. I mean I iust signed an email as Koorly and didn't realise until I sent it. Good thing it was only to friends.

Now that I think about it, most people seem to have dreamsitP around here. Maybe we're iust so nice and wonderful that we're easy to dream about? And our oddness creates some excellent dreamscapes.

But let's see....

when you met the last 4 people you dated here?
when you met your husband here?
when you fake married someone in town, people you didn't even know thought he was actually your husband?
when you made an account for your son before he was born?
When you've been a member of the playground longer than it took you to get your bachelors and masters degrees?

That I can attribute my more outspoken nature to the fact that speaking intelligently on varied and obscure topics is a good thing.
But most importantly, that you can refer to books, films and various other things by the person or people who recommended it you. Or entire lessons or topics.
And I think that as I'm planning my first trip abroad proper around a meetup with Playgrounders as well as my university friends might be a sign as well.

I appreciate it as well for two reasons:

1) I don't have to respond immediately. I can pause, think, research, write, then re-write to take the edge off the post if it comes across as kind of mean.

The problem with face-to-face is that anything you say can't be taken back, and it can hurt for a long time.

2) People in online forums don't simply disappear when you move or they move. Real life meatspace people, it seems like they're your friends until you change a job or an apartment or some other life event, whereupon they disappear forever and never respond even when you e-mail or otherwise try to get in contact. You're off their horizon -- you no longer exist.

That doesn't happen here.

Respectfully,

Brian P.

All this dream stuff is especially weird because I can hardly ever remember my dreams.

Not to mention that when I picture what's happening in my D&D games anymore, I default to OotS style instead of realistic style or something like that.

When you start thinking of yourself as "Lioness" in real life. Doesn't help that I use that name of about 3 other forums too though...

Happens to me pretty often. Especially when I'm about to refer to myself in third person.

I've also had dreams about the playground, but they were pretty short and uneventful. There was a new comic update in one of them which I tried (and failed to) read the title of, but there was none IRL.

Meatspace. They had chocolate.

Surely being here too much would mean going for playground in spite of the chocolate?

Also dreaming of going to a meetup where everyone is their avatar. :smallconfused:

I had a dream like that once.
Cobra_Ikari accidentally ate Rabbit Hole Lost and Roland had to perform surgery to get Rabbit out of Cobra. (It was a successful surgery though, everyone was fine)
And Serpentine was chasing me around an electric blue refrigerator. It was terrifying. :smalleek:

...I really shouldn't have eaten and posted here so much that night..

My vanity requires me to ask... Has anyone ever dreamt about me?

I think so. I can't remember but it feels familiar, somehow. I rarely remember my dreams for very long. I know I've dreamed about Coffee and Water-Smurf, but again no details beyond that.

When you've started answering and referring to yourself as 'Kris' in meatspace as well as on the forums.
...
Oh wait.

I had a Serpentine dream once. Everyone was dueling Harry Potter style, and then me and Serp were dueling and then she won but my dreamself was like, 'no no no, this is my dream' (and yet, I still wasn't lucid) and then time was reversed and we dueled again and again but she kept winning. Then my dreamself had a hissy fit about not being able to win in his own dream and then we dueled again and this time I won. Because apparently my dreamself is as petulant as I am in real life. But then Serp and RHL pulled out lightsabers and were fighting and then I can't remember what happened next.

I finally had a Playground dream last night. Everyone's avatars were sitting in Trog's Tavern when BOOM! my avatar wlaks into the room. Everyone turns their heads and notices my avatar. Embarrased, he sits down at a table with Introbulus. They have some sort of conversation, when they both realize that they both have tails. For some reason, Introbulus declares that this calls for a celebration. The bartender (Roland) brings out a tray of internets, which happen to be cookies with an I on them in frosting. Everyone recieves internets.

...the end.

That dream didn't make the most sense out of some I've had. I was hoping it'd be an actiony thing.

I don't think I'm here often enough. In nearly two years I've:
-Only obtained Dwarf rank.
-Made no friends.
-Created no notable threads.
-Posted nothing of importance/interest.
-Never attended a meetup.
-Never played a game with/against another Playgrounder.
-Never met a Playgrounder.
-Never contributed to anything in any meaningful way.

Huh.

I had a dream where Matt Smith (of Doctor Who) became the Prime Minister and I had to go on a school outing to a sewer located in a theme park and I asked if I could not go to the sewer because I wanted to go to the roof to hang out with Lix.

I'm fairly sure that actually happened with the old Dr. Who (David Tennant).

Look: here it is! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzlOBn029b8)

It does seem like an extension of family. I've met so many people on here that I consider friends, both in person and not. Watched friends come and go. We've announced two babies on here.

I started reading the comic the year after I had our 7 year old, and eventually got up the nerve to join the forum, 2 years later...pretty much been around non-stop since then.

No dreams yet. Maybe someday...
