And, I don't care whether you're immune to sanctuary effects, you are not immune to the arena's sanctuary effect. Creatures summoned during the 1st round are also affected by the sanctuary effect.

Ouch! Even with soft cover, that first one hit. I take 2 damage.

Reflex Save for my Animal Companion: [roll0]
I'll need a reflex save from you, as well. (DC 14)

Also, my question in the waiting room has now become relevant. Specifically, it was on this text:
If a warded character touches an animal or attacks any creature, even with a spell, the spell ends for all recipients.
The question was, does your attack on me trigger this text, and end your Hide from Animals effect? The answer was yes.

My Animal Companion is in J13, which is 10 feet from you. Regardless of the success or failure of the save, I am handling it to poison spray you.

Fortitude save, DC 12, please.

any reason you didn't include the +5 on move silently? the AC didn't move greater than 1/2 his base speed

candycorn
2010-08-02, 07:17 PM
@Fallen/Refs:The AC is in the Entangle area. As such he is at half movement, which makes every square of movement cost 2 squares, and every diagonal cost 3. As such, the AC used 25 feet of movement to reach his location, even though only 10 feet was actually traveled.

If move silently only factors actual distance moved, then please add 5 to the check.

don't have the book at hand now, is grappling normal behaviour for a swindlespitter? Handling your AC is a free action and thus you can't give him instructions on how to perform an AoO

candycorn
2010-08-02, 09:34 PM
I would think that the creature has been commanded to attack this round.

In addition, AoO's are not actions.

Assuming that the creature is aware of its enemies, AoO's should be automatic.

The ruling you are suggesting would imply that animal companions and mounts cannot take Attacks of Opportunity.

In addition, I am freely able to designate the attacks of my animal companion. The book makes no mention one way or another as to its regular actions.

precedent says the actions of summons and ACs are handled by Refs if they are not controlled

It's not your turn, thus you can't use handle animal to give instructions

==> the AC acts as on it's own as it would per it's Int 2. It recognizes Abogralia as enemy and takes an AoO with it's natural weapon

Round 90 Aguacatl & Shooter vs Jack & Twang. I handled Scorers AC when he couldn't give commands because of lacking LoS

candycorn
2010-08-02, 09:44 PM
That's a different situation. That required handling because the player that would normally control the actions didn't have access to the information that the AC did.

As you said: "Because he didn't have LOS".

EDIT: In addition:

Only as a last resort does a swindlespitter attack with its sharp beak.
This would imply that other forms of attack, such as tripping, disarming, and grappling, would be more likely to be performed.

In addition, Handle Animal text:
Handle an Animal

This task involves commanding an animal to perform a task or trick that it knows. If the animal is wounded or has taken any nonlethal damage or ability score damage, the DC increases by 2. If your check succeeds, the animal performs the task or trick on its next action.
Handle animal only applies to tasks that are handled on the animal's action. AoO's are not actions, and thus are not covered by Handle animal.

So you are selecting an action described as the animal's last resort as its primary choice?

In other words, if you are altering or changing my actions, cite a rule or precedent that allows you to do so. A rule or ruling that I can read and see. The only reason to change an action is if it violates a rule. Show me the rule my action violates.

That would mean you can't use handle animal to influence your ACs AoOs at all and I see no other way you can communicate with him

So you are selecting an action described as the animal's last resort as its primary choice?

That is an interesting point, as I said I don't have the book at hand. Though one could use your argument that this is just fluff text like the "feels threatened" part. If we still go by this, a trip attempt seems most logical since grappling still involves using it's beak do damage the opponent

I already did. You can't control your AC outside your turn, but you try to do exactly that

If we still go by this, a trip attempt seems most logical since grappling still involves using it's beak do damage the opponentNo, a successful grapple deals damage as an Unarmed Strike, which is NOT a beak attack.

The animal's beak does 1d4-1. A small creature's unarmed strike does 1d2-1. There is a distinct difference.

This means that a grapple is every bit as valid and in keeping with your original query as a trip, or a bull rush. So what is the justification for changing it, beyond arbitrary decision?

TheFallenOne
2010-08-02, 10:19 PM
heh, when was this crossed out? Indeed nonlethal (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20050322a)

In light of this, assuming we don't treat that "Last Resort" bit as a fluff consideration that should be ignored, Trip and Grapple seem on equal ground here. Any decision about it would be artitrary, since you can't control it and I as a referee see no rule why it should favour one over the other. letting the dice decide would probably be the best option. But I very much doubt that such a ruling would keep long, it's just too complicated. I'm 99% sure it will boil down to

a) druids can freely choose on AoOs
b) the animal will always use it's primary attack

once we High Refs talked it out
both are simple, both have their merits

Does "If a warded character touches an animal or attacks any creature, even with a spell, the spell ends for all recipients." only apply if the character actively touches an animal, or if someone touches you, you touch him as well? Does it even anywhere say that a touch is made if you attack someone with natural weapons? Well, I'm out on this one, if you two can't agree on this, someone else has to solve it

Bebe:I believe the actions for giving an item are the other way around - a move to take it, and a free to drop it.

candycorn
2010-08-09, 12:43 PM
@Sallera/Refs:I was under the impression that was for when you dropped an item, and someone picked it up off the ground, not when you tried to actively offer an item to someone. I was using the Spell Compendium's "Entice Gift" for a model of the mechanics of handing an item to someone, as the spell only provides the compulsion to hand an item, and the ability to accept it out of turn (neither of which are needed here, as the animal is voluntarily doing it, and it's not out of turn). I was under the impression that the other aspects (subject moves and offers the item as a standard action) were mechanics, and could be used independently by voluntary targets.

Regardless, it doesn't really matter. If it's an issue, consider the item dropped into my square (A5). That should be a reasonable enough interpretation of completing a fetch command.

For my opponent's information: The issue is resolved. Your turn.

@Sallera/Refs:The drop way seems less controversial. No sense making an issue where rulings need to be made. Let's just go with the "drop at my feet" version, and I'll pick it up next turn.

oh right... er... then change that to draw potion and drink it...

How long does the swarm spell lasts? I don't exactly understand "concentration+2"

candycorn
2010-08-14, 01:03 PM
Concentration + 2 rounds means:

Concentration

The spell lasts as long as you concentrate on it. Concentrating to maintain a spell is a standard action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity. Anything that could break your concentration when casting a spell can also break your concentration while you’re maintaining one, causing the spell to end.

You can’t cast a spell while concentrating on another one. Sometimes a spell lasts for a short time after you cease concentrating.

The spell lasts as long as I choose to expend a standard action each round to concentrate on it, and then 2 more rounds.

I was rather worried with the hide from animals potions, as over half my power comes from animals. Then the resist energy on top of that, I had to try to think creative, and the only thing I could see exploitable on your sheet was low movement. So I tried to pile on slowdown and harrying effects to you, and go from there.

To be honest, I think swindlespitters are a bit TOO good. Good AC, decent HP, and a nearly at will Save or Lose effect... On top of my actual character.
