Okay, so I'm kind of frantic at the moment. I'm trying to put together my new chest of drawers from Ikea. It didn't come with instructions. "That's okay!" I think to myself, "Surely they're all online." And they are. Except my Adobe Reader is failing at rendering them, and I don't know what to do. HALP.

(It's a MALM 6-drawer chest of drawers, 31.5/ 48 3/8ths, by the way.)

Is there anywhere where they just have it rendered on the site, instead of in PDF?

EDIT: This (http://www.ikea.com/ms/en_US/customer_service/assembly/M/M10103347.pdf)is the PDF I'm trying to view that keeps crashing.

Preeetty sure I have the newest one, but I went to the site to redownload Reader regardless. We'll see.

It pulled up fine for me. I was gonna type it out for you until i saw how many pages there were :smalltongue:
My advice is to call the store and ask if they have any spare copies of the instructions at their store. Failing that, you can set the pdf to download at whatever abysmally slow rate you get, and like go to the movies or something.

Okay. Updated Reader, still doesn't work. Is there any other way to view PDFs other than with Acrobat or Reader?

You could also ask a friend to print it out for you.

Lol, but that would be easy :smallwink:
I would think if that was feasible he'd already have done it :smallfrown:

Well, it's a pretty obvious solution, so the likelyhood that you don't think of it is pretty high. :smallwink:

I considered doing this, but I should really be in bed right now, so I guess it was a good thing that I passed, and a good thing that I wasn't the only one thinking of this.

Likely fair use (non-commercial, no impact on market for work). In any case, nobody cares.

For future reference, I've had good luck with Sumatra pdf viewer (which is also much lighter weight than Adobe Reader).

http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader/

Foxit was good before it became popular.

The installer version of Foxit Reader is bundled with potentially unwanted applications, and may make changes to the user system without his/her approval. Thus, PC Advisor recommends to be "diligent when installing Foxit Reader to ensure the program doesn't install unwanted software." They found that Foxit Reader "attempted to install a Firefox plug-in, made Ask [their] default search engine and created desktop, quick launch and Start Menu icons for eBay."[3] Some of these features can be disabled during the setup process and are not present in the .zip version of the package.

Regardless of whether or not the user can avoid these things, such behavior is indicative of software that should not be trusted.

It's possible to open pdfs in Photoshop or GIMP, if it's Acrobat that's causing the problem. It's not ideal, but in an emergency, it'll do.

On the top of Swedish domination in the market of random stuff in houses, Clas Ohlson is pretty good.

Quite why I wanted to buy a two in one orange peeler and appler corer I don't know. But buy it I did.

Clas ohlson is in deed pretty damn good.

Also, Biltema, which is a better version of Halfords is awesome.
Where else can you find a car parts shop where you can also buy golf balls, Super Soakers and kayaks?
It's awesome.

Sweden is a pretty cool place, until you've been to Norway. But yeah, IKEA is incredibly handy for people in all ages, especially when you're just moving into a new apartment and starting a new life somewhere.

Also:

Quite why I wanted to buy a two in one orange peeler and appler corer I don't know. But buy it I did.

Why would you not is the real question here. "I don't need one" is not a valid answer, everyone needs a two in one orange peeler and apple corer.

Depends on how you look at things. IN some contexts, it refers to all the countries with shorelines around the Baltic Sea, sometimes it refers to just the three countries of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, and at yet other times, it can mean just the islands of the Euroregion B7 Baltic Seven Islands, which includes the islands and archipelagos Ĺland (autonomous), Bornholm (Denmark), Gotland (Sweden), Hiiumaa (Estonia), Öland (Sweden), Rügen (Germany), and Saaremaa (Estonia).*

*Yes, I went to Wikipedia for that.
Of course, the term 'Baltic' is also used in English slang to indicate that something's freezing.

As a follow up, I ended up stealing a friend's computer that could render the instructions so I could build my damned chest of drawers.

Also, I found it amusing that Jonathan Coulton's song "Ikea" fit the occasion very well: I went shopping at IKEA with my father - I'm a college kid, he's a divorced man.

I visited Ottawa earlier this summer and went to the Ikea there with my sister. We were accosted by employees in costume celebrating Princess Victoria's birthday, and on the whole I found the store frightening and alienating. I most certainly did not cash in the coupon they gave me for a free slice of cake, even though the guy looked super in his velvet breeches.
