Well, there are some ideas I would probably try in your shoes, but obviously I won't tell you those right now :smallwink:
Psycho starts in N-4, holding his light crossbow in one hand. He double moves up 20', still in N-4.

I feel kinda bad, as this is probably my cheesiest build. But I am getting tired of Lava Arena being the only map for level 2 1v1 rounds, dangit!
Can Psycho 5 foot step in the air? If so, he does that to M-5. If not, he stays in N-4. He shifts his crossbow to both hands, and fires.
[roll0]
[roll1]
Then reloads and shifts it back to one hand.

I dunno what the AC of your crossbow is... Also, substract 2, forgot range increment
hustlertwo
2010-08-04, 11:32 AM
I am also unsure of the item's AC; normally it'd be very low, but it being in my hand might have some impact on it. In any case, the damage wouldn't get through the hardness of the weapon, since ranged weapon damage gets divided by 2 and any projectile weapon has hardness 5.
And this was the idea I was thinking of, yes.

5 footing was ruled OK, so I start my turn in M-5.
Psycho Mantis moves to N-7, shifts his crossbow to both hands, and fires.

[roll1]
Then shift it back to one hand.

Initiate Ref Bayar
As I understand, attacking an object is acomplished by the sunder special attack (slashing or bludgeoning melee weapons only). There is a ranged sunder feat somewhere IIRC that lets you do it with ranged weapons...
Better call a High Ref here to make a ruling on the thing.

you can attack objects with ranged attacks, but not worn weapons and shields
Smashing a weapon or shield with a slashing or bludgeoning weapon is accomplished by the sunder special attack
Sunder
You can use a melee attack with a slashing or bludgeoning weapon to strike a weapon or shield that your opponent is holding.
I think you can only attack unattended objects with ranged weapons, but nothing like that is in the SRD. But that in particular isn't relevant now anyway

OK. Probably no rewind necessary, unless Scorer wants one. So presumably play continues and it is Scorer's turn.

Yeah, I can understand that. I put you in a tough spot. Plus, your Internet issues. I think you'll fare a lot better in the next one, since you do pack some serious power with your character.

Hehe, didn't enjoy MGS 2 or 4 very much, but 1 and 3 were very good. Also, when you're 8 years old, the Psycho Mantis battle was scary as hell, heh. Especially when you don't know to put the controller in port 2, hehe.
hustlertwo
2010-08-13, 09:21 AM
I'm absolutely right there with you. 2 was terrible, towards the end I was gritting my teeth, really wanting to quit but sticking it out through the endless stupidity and brief bursts of actual interactivity because I knew once I finished this game, I would be turning it off and not turning it back on in this lifetime. 3 was a great rejuventation for the series; with the present timeline in irreparable shambles (I haven't played 4 since I don't have a PS3, but by all accounts he didn't do much to fix what he had wrought in 2), Kojima goes back to before the beginning and promptly recaptures the magic of the first one all over again. Also, they have a boss who can die of old age. That's a big win right there.
And the Mantis fight was my favorite; not only because it was so unique, but because there were so many options. The controller port gimmick, shooting the wrappings off the statues, or my personal favorite: beat him straight up. Even when he can 'read your mind', you can hit him with about one melee attack in ten (although no weapons work). After 20 or 30 minutes, with a bit of luck and skill, you can take him out. Unfortunately, the game doesn't give any special recognition, it just does the cutscene as if you pulled the controller trick anyhow.
