greetings members of the playground. I have decided to undertake a rather..... painful finacially hazordous and monumental task

I am going to track down and purchase every 3.5 sourcebook

one slight problem however, from cruising these forums as a regular source of entertainment/inspiration, I realize that I don't know enough to know what I'm missing

so I come to you, assorted creatures of the playground and ask for one simple thing.

list every sourcebook/splatbook/rulebook/etc you can think of.

you may exclude the Dungeon master's guide, I possess it already

thanks in advance.

Wow... big list...
There's Ghostwalk at a local store, is it any good?

I remember reading bits and pieces of that one. I recall the ghosts within it are poorly balanced in the sense that most other ghosts in the universe have to sacrifice a pile of levels to get in. However, if you really like ghosts it's probably worth it for the fluff. I think.

I liked Ghostwalk. Has one of the best items ever, glove of the master strategist (or something like that). Glove of storing + 1/day true strike for under 4k gp.

I have pretty much every book already
I started out with a large collection, including some birthday and Xmas presents. But then the library had a booksale, and someone had donated all their DnD books or something, because there was a huge stack. All for like $3.00 each (They counted as hardbacks). Joyous day.
I recommend snooping at the library discharged books section too, I got my 3.5 E Player's Handbook and MM from there because someone spilled water on the covers.

Im collecting them all myself. Im missing...seven out of the rulebook list, and Im similarly close on the other lists.

Some are definitely harder to hunt down than others. I really wish I sprang for the black leatherbound set back in the day. Impossible to find for a reasonable price now.

I am also working on such a feat. Don't limit yourself in the hunt. The best store in my area for d&d books for instance is a tiny hole-in-the-wall store, which has a single owner who did not retire his books when wizards stopped printing them. He knows i'm a loyal customer, so when he takes a day off to go "book hunting" (yes he puts a sign in the window that says "gone book hunting"), he picks up books for me.

The occasional garage sale or flea market book can also lead to stacks of cheap books. Don't be afraid to pick up a book you already have for 5 bucks, when you can normally sell that same book back to a local game store for store credit or atleast ebay the book to make an extra 15 bucks toward the next book.

To quote Battlestar Galactica: Good Hunting.

Holy <bleep>.....good luck, man. Let me know what the final bill comes to on this noble endeavor....

It's not as bad as you'd think. I paid $5-10 each for at least half of them, due to pretty exhaustive e-bay and used bookstore searching. There's a few that are high(spc comes to mind), but they're totally worth it. So, you can get most of the way there without it being too painful.

Unfortunately, Im better at finding deals that I am at tracking what I have. I occasionally end up with duplicates of stuff, which generally is good news for others in my gaming group.

Animated Series Handbook is eluding me, though. Got a bid on MM V atm, but it's expensive. Last one of the MMs, though.

Now, even though I've almost gotten all the 3.5 books, I still have a number of adventures left to collect. Let's not get me started on the 3rd party stuff. So much left...

Aaaand, I think that's it. Right?

I'd day I own about 90% of the general 3.5 books on that list, around 60% of 3.0 books, about 40% of the FR books, and 0% of the Eberron books. I went a bit crazy after 4E had been announced and my FLGS had a fire sale on 3.5 hardbacks.

I agree, if anyone knows of a book MEANT FOR DND at all, (3rd party, wotc, any old hack, whatever) and it's meant for 3.0 or 3.5

and you don't see it mentioned above, please, add it to the list.

as the stronghold guide I mentioned before seems to be 3rd party, and if I hadn't been trolling the forums, I still wouldn't know of its existence.

also, for those of you wanting the final expenditure, I"ll get back to you on that in a few years, I'll even find a way to save this thread in its entirety ... or something, so people will be like "oooh yeaaaah. that thing"

:smallcool:

so it seems that we have a comprehensive list of WOTC books...

before I open the floodgates up on 3rd party... how much is there? and how much of it is actually worth owning?
(not that that'll matter much to me, I love books, and I love the game)

Tyndmyr
2010-08-27, 08:48 AM
Well, there's the mongoose books for starters. Typically, each base class has one. Quality varies, with some of it unique, balanced, and useful, the occasional broken idea, and a fair amount of underpowered junk.

There's also the Ultimate series. Ultimate Arcane or some such is basically a third party version of SpC. Some great ideas, but some poor editing. You end up with a lot of things like untyped damage where it probably shouldn't be, ambiguities and the like. Useful, but with caution.

thanks, I'll take that under advisement, I plan on starting with WOTC books only, and after I've managed to collect all of them, I figure enough time will have passed for me to know what's worth having and what isn't, so I might start a seperate thread some time in the far future about 3rd source.... except for things like the stronghold guide, that sounds veeeerrryyy interesting

I did a similar thing while 3.5 was out- hoping to be able to get hold of all the feats, items, monsters, etc.

Currently, from that list, I do not have:

-Deluxe Eberron Dungeon Master’s Screen
-Deluxe Eberron Player Character Sheets
-Grasp of the Emerald Claw
-Shadows of the Last War
-Voyage of the Golden Dragon
-Whispers of the Vampire's Blade

-Fantastic Locations: Fane of the Drow
-Fantastic Locations: Hell spike Prison
-Fantastic Locations: Frostfen Rift
-Fantastic Locations: Dragon down Grotto
-Fantastic Locations: Fields of Ruin
-Fantastic Locations: City of Peril
-Red Hand of Doom
-Scourge of the Howling Horde
-The Shattered Gates of Slaughtergarde
-Barrow of the Forgotten King
-Fortress of the Yuan-Ti
-The Sinister Spire
-Book of Challenges: Dungeon Rooms, Puzzles, and Traps

-Sons of Gruumsh
-The Twilight Tomb

-Bastion of Broken Souls
-Deep Horizon
-Heart of Nightfang Spire
-Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil
-The Speaker in Dreams
-The Standing Stone
-The Forge of Fury
-The Sunless Citadel

Items that have not been listed, that were published by WoTC- that I do not have, and would have liked to get:

-Dragonlance (all books)
-Diablo 2: Diablerie (I do have Diablo 2: To Hell & Back).

I can't even begin to fathom what a task collecting all the books must be :smalleek: However, I use bit torrent quite a lot and the other day I found a download of 600+ d&d books. This included d20, 3.0, and 3.5. (And about a week ago I got a download of all the 2.0 books) It has Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, Eberron, Dragonlance, Kingdoms of Kalamar, Ravenloft, Legend of the Five Rings. Even has the Munchkin books.. Lol. Also included the Midnight Syndicate 'Official Roleplaying Soundtrack' Better have virtually every book for it being a 13.4GB download x-x
