Gentles,

May I direct your attention to
this post (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=9068773&postcount=2172).

I respect the need of the board to maintain a PG-13 atmosphere. However, I suggest that the word in question be removed from the list of banned words. According to Merriam-Webster (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary), it has a number of definitions including A) male poultry B) the act of arming a firearm C) a male leader in addition to its vulgar slang definition of the male generative organ.

I propose that the ban be lifted, with the understanding that if said word is used in the vulgar sense the user may be reported to the mods for swift action.

As I said, I understand and support the board's need to maintain a certain level of decorum. But I think the ban is in this case hampering legitimate communication while deterring would-be pottymouths not at all. It isn't hard to find synonyms. It seems to be one of the larger areas of human creativity to find more and disgusting ways to refer to their anatomy.

Respectfully,

Brian P.

S: As we have said before, fiddling with the filter is more trouble than it's worth and simple workarounds are acceptable if the usage is mundane and non-profane. I would add that in the linked instance, everyone understood what was being said and the discussion carried on as normal, with no confusion that I could detect. Of course, that didn't stop the inevitable commentary on the filter, which needn't have happened, but happens everywhere that has a filter. Everyone loves to comment and talk about their funny filter stories.

Your suggestion is an understandable one, I'd dare say a very reasonable one. But, of course, it's one we've previously considered. If anything changes, we'll let you know. But for now, we're not interested in spending time messing with the filter.
