What would be a good selection of gear for a 5th level character using the class linked in my signature. I have 9,000 gp to work with.

8k on a +2 item that boosts whatever stat your spellcasting is based and 1k on a cloak of resistance...

But...I have to say I agree with the person who responded to your class post...that class is vague at best.

It needs a lot more polish and a good bit more direction.

Yea, probably +2 to your casting stat, then some misc survival stuff. High on the list would be Anklets of Translocation, +1 Cloak of Resistance, Healing Belt and/or Wand of Lesser Vigor, etc. An Artificer's Monacle is almost never misplaced in an adventuring party, as you WILL find loot and after the 15th Identify, it's paid for itself.

Yeah, I realize it's a bit vague, but for my purposes, and our party, it'll be fine. Direction is rarely rewarded richly, and fixed roles aren't always fixed.

Here's what I have so far.
+1 Energy Defense Scale Mail
Cloak of Resistance +1
Ring of Protection +1
+1 Morphing Scythe
+1 Light Crossbow
Handy Haversack

Gold left: 2147 gp.
What else should I get?

Are you sure you mathed right? That looks like a LOT more than ~6800g spent. I don't know what Morphing is (did you mean Sizing?). If its a +1 equivalent, thats 8300g right there. Also not sure what Energy Defense is. If you could provide a better breakdown, I think you'll find you have some pretty massive errors there.

Just a quick off the cuff measurement...
2x +1 weapons would be 4600g
Ring of Protection is 2000g
+1 Armor is ~1300g
Cloak of Resistance is 1000g
Handy Haversack is 2000g

Thats almost 11,000g easily, and some things still aren't accounted for.

Ah. It's just that some of them didn't list a price, just +1 bonus in the price slot for abilities. I'll correct it if necessary.

If an ability has a +x equivalent, you add that to whatever the weapon normally is. So if you have a +1 Flaming weapon, it costs as much as a +2 weapon (since Flaming is a +1 equivalant). Cost for magic weapons is base + 2000 times the bonus squared. That means +1 weapons cost 2000g (since 1^2 is 1), +2 weapons cost 8000g (since 2^2 is 4), and +3 weapons cost 18000g (since 3^2 is 9), etc.

You've got WAY too much gear there for a 5th level toon. I'd drop the Ring of Protection, and depending on your Str score, the Haversack too. If you aren't planning on meleeing much, I'd ditch the weapon as well, since the class you have there seems to be rather casting/utility oriented.

And the crossbow is just MW, not with an additional bonus.

I thought I interpreted that wrong. It seemed a bit too good to be true.

How about I switch that for a masterwork hideaway scythe?
