[GB] GhostbustersITP OOC

Hey! What's up! I've been looking to do a little Free Form for a while but am not interested in any of the current games being run. So I figured I'd make my own! I don't have any players as of yet so for the time being this'll serve as an OOC thread until we have enough to get going. As well as signing up we can also discuss how the game is set up, I have a few ideas that I'd like to pitch and we can work from those until we find something we can all agree on.

The Setting
The fictional Spiral City, largest city in the western world. Spiral city was built around a town founded by the leaders of an evil cult and because of it it's a ghost and spirit hotspot which means it calls for a larger Ghostbuster force. Because it's fictional and very large it can make for more freedom in roleplaying.

Characters
Heres how I see the character profiles working. I'll use my character as an example after I give the rundown.

Name: First Middle Last
Gender: Male or Female
Age: How old your character is.
Date of Birth: Day/Month/Year. Assuming the starting date ingame is June 1 2010. So be sure it conforms to your age.
Appearance: A picture or a brief description.
Job: See the Job paragraph below.
Background: Not too detailed. One paragraph should do. Mostly just explain the whys and hows as to your characters current status.

My Character (example)
Name: Marty Stafford
Gender: Male
Age: 31
DoB: 01/09/1978
Appearance: Marty stands at exactly 6 feet tall and has short brown hair. Marty has dark skin and hazel green eyes. When not in uniform he often wears summer vacation wear (short pants, colourful shirts, sunglasses, sandals etc.) regardless of the weather or location.
Job:Ghostbuster
Background: Marty has lived in Spiral City his entire life and rarely leaves. Before the formation of the Spiral City Ghostbusters he worked as a freelance paranormal investigator. His father was an old family friend of Egon Spengler and recieved permission from him to open another division of the Ghostbusters outside of New York as well as Egon's original proton pack. For many years he ran a succesful Ghostbusting business until Christmas Day of 2003 where he mysteriously dissapeared on a routine job. Since then Marty has taken over as head and has since been running the business. On the side he has made it a personal mission to search for his father.

Job:
Essentially class. There'll only be three to minimize confusion. So let's go through them one by one.

Ghostbuster: The classic spirit catcher. Because Spiral City has a much more potent spirit problem the force consists of ten rather than New York's four.

Anti-Spectral: The rival to the Ghostbusters, the Anti-Spectrals are a group of rich, high powered ghost catchers with suspiciously similair technology (although it hasnt been proved that they ripped it off). Neither side has the moral high ground nor a foothold on business in the city. The Anti-Spectrals also have 10 on their team.

Civilian: Anything really. The civilian can be a mad scientist, reporter, homeless person, occult bookstore owner, insurance dealer. Whatever! When choosing this one as Job put in brackets what his actual occupation is. (example: Job: Civilian (Cameraman) )

Plot:
This is just an idea mind you, we can bat this one around until we come up with something we all like.

A freak heatwave has struck Spiral City. The rolling blackouts are taking a gradual toll on the ghost storage chambers for both the Ghostbusters and Anti-Spectrals. However something is behind this heatwave, and our characters must discover what it is before the storage chambers collapse and release years worths of captured ghosts into the populace.

I haven't thought of an ending

Appearance: Joshua, or Creed as he prefers to be called, stands at 5'9'' and weighs in at 122 lbms. He has stark black hair that contrasts sharply to his pale skin. He is not particularly muscular.

Job: Ghost-Buster

Background: Joshua is a modern day Macgyver. In addition to his ghost-catching stuff, he also carries a duffel bag with various tools in it. He was taught his engineering skills by his late father, Dante Cornelius Creed, a troubled inventor who died in an accident involving several unknon apparitions. Joshua doesn't like to talk about it.

I'd write a question about which Ghostbusters this is about but my knowledge of either amounts to the name and nothing more.

So instead I will ask, what are the essentials and as I get my answer I will get to the task, and make a character with this newly gotten lore

Perhaps a fortune teller, or the owner of an occult bookstore.

And for those of you who don't speak in rhyme, here's the translation: I haven't watched anything related to Ghostbusters but this looks fun so what's the show about? :smalltongue:

Background: He grew up in Spiral City, and in fact has never left Spiral City in his life. As a kid he was very interested in ghost stories, and I'm not talking about Casper. In fact, he was a ghost every Halloween. As he grew up, his interest moved to Horror movies. Particularly, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Freedy Kreuger (I spelled that wrong...) when he heard he could do his Senior Project interning with the ghostbusters, he lept at the chance. He even has a favorite type of ghost and ectoplasm.

Hey X2! I missed you and Elm Street itp. That was fun! Fighting Freddy in their dreams. And Quinton's special power was shields.

Thinking himself above the common man, when he decided to make sure that his cases would be free from paranormal medding, he joined Anti-Spectal as their law specialist in Spiral City.

It's pretty vague in the movies. There's really nothing set in stone. If you want to know how people catch ghosts let me run it down.

They hold the Ghost in place with a proton pack which shoots a stream of light out the target. If they hold the ghost in place for long enough they move a trap underneath it which sucks the ghost in. A couple of rules.

1. Don't cross the streams. I can't remember all of Egon's explanation but he mentioned something about every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light.
2. Don't look at the trap when it goes off. This isn't so bad. Egon looked at the trap in the first movie by mistake and it didn't seem to harm him. It's just being safe.

Ghosts are much less subtle in the franchise than in real life. They'll manifest themselves visually and cause very obvious mischief. Often they'll leave ectoplasmic residue (or slime). Some more than others, the aptly named Slimer for example leaves a lot of ectoplasm around. The ectoplasm isn't harmful.

Anything before his arrival in Spiral City is shrouded in mystery, not made easier by his frequent and cryptic references to his past and family line. Be there any truth to his nonsense or not.

Yes, he is a complete nutjob. He's just fortunate enough to live in a world where ghosts are common place making his claims a tad more believable :smalltongue:

We don't necessarily need another civilian, an occult bookstore is bound to get at least some visitors among the ghost hunting members of Spiral City's populace. It's always good to know what ghosts are scared of cats and which aren't :smalltongue:

Her grandmother told her that this was where their knowledge and power came from, which would sometimes even allow them to see bits of the future. Her mother didn’t approve of Kachina being taught such ‘dangerous things’, so they moved away from the country to Spiral city where she could get some proper education.She finished high school, got her own appartment and now works at a coffee shop to pay for the rent.

To explain why he's not with the others, from his lazyness he slept in late and woke up after the others left. He's calling Marty right now to find out what happened in my post.

Ghost: *Boot to the head*

I think I mentioned this earlier but we're only counting the first movie in continuity. Sorry but I would like to start off with just the one. We can add more as we get more of a grasp on the dynamic of Ghostbusting on a FreeForm.

You shouldn't go in alone.
as X2 said, they had a lot of trouble with their first ghost in the movie.
Even with a little more experience, you still wouldn't be able to handle it on your own.And teamwork is one of the key elements of the Ghostbusters.
They solve it as a team.

The ghost has been caught by Maxios Baxter. He had the beam on it, and the specter's did also. Maxios threw the buster's trap, and caught the bank robber ghost.
He did this in hopes of prestige and respect by the other members of the ghostbusters.
You can now go back to your normal fourm shenanigans.

I would like to point out that your character plus ours and the ghost were inside. And, I don't want to be mean, but trees usually tend not to be inside. At least, not the kind that would stop you if you were flying at it.
