Your visionThe woman floats above a deep pit in an underground room, her tattoos giving her an unsettling appearance. She chants and gestures, and as she does so the form of an ancient orc appears, superimposed over her. The two continue to chant, when suddenly a light flashes from the pit, and you catch a glimpse of something moving. Something big.

You wake up, but the feeling of dread from the vision does not fade. You feel as if there is somewhere you need to be, and you set out to follow that feeling. Eventually, you meet up with three others, all following the same vision, and come to the small, peaceful town of Sarwin.

You have been traveling with your companions for a few days, not quite sure where your vision was leading you. Towards evening, it became clear that you were headed towards Sarwin, a small, peaceful hamlet. You are approaching it from the northeast, along a small trail through the thick woods. The last light of the setting sun illuminates the hamlet as you finally exit the woods and catch sight of your destination.

Sarwin is in ruins; it's clear that it suffered a recent attack. Scorch marks scar the buildings and ground, and several of the buildings have collapsed. You see no signs of life, not even bodies.

The wind carries a certain music, as this fey steps across the debris and seeks the dead. Singing a soft song, high, lonely, calm, he holds his Long blade out as he picks the path. Nodding to his companions, he holds his head in respect...

" Visions of Dreaming;
Wanton Curiousity;
Death for the child, his mother and father;
To walk the shadows is a fate for the dead... "

" Tis' curious. Shall we move on? "

Oray Wornran

"Perhaps... but first, a few prayers and a good meal; if you'd gather round...."

With that, Oray waits a moment to see who will choose to gather today, then begins her normal routine, setting an orange prism rotating about her head, manipulating her prayer beads for a moment, muttering a few prayers for herself, and the fallen. She then gives out an inspiring sermon, leaving everyone feeling Vigorous and full of the Law. Once done with that, she Summons a feast for everyone. Those who are familiar with the practices of spells easily note that she works a few into her prayers, Sermon, and routines ... Endure Elements, Undetectable Alignment, Persistent Detect Magic, and Persistent Find Traps in her personal prayers; a Persistent Mass Lesser Vigor in and a Persistent Shield of Law into her sermon ... which appears to be why she asks her companions to gather round, as they don't have much range ... and the Feast is a Heroes' Feast, Extended to last all day. When she is done, she stows her Orange Prism.

"Oh, certainly. It's just generally better to be fortified with prayer and a good meal before venturing into the unknown. I'll keep an eye out for traps." With that, Oray takes a few moments to scan the area for magic, then begins searching, stopping every sixty feet to check for magic again.

DM (Mechanical stuff):

Actions: Concentrate on Persistent Detect Magic; check ahead, behind, left, right, up, and down - three rounds on each, to locate all magical auras, unless the first round determines that there's no magic in that arc - then starts Searching for traps (+21 modifier, taking ten, for a total of 31) as she goes, making sure to check the five-foot square in front of her for traps prior to stepping into it. When she reaches the end of the area she's cleared of magic, she repeats the procedure from the beginning.

Everyone wants to keep the healer around, especially when it also means they've got a reasonable set of buffs. Do keep in mind, though: They're named bonuses, for the most part - which means the +4 Resistance and +4 Deflection from Shield of Law don't stack with your Cloak of Resistance or Ring of Protection (assuming you have one of each, anyway) ... really, the biggest gain there is the protection from mental effects... although the +1 Moral bonus to saves from Heroes' Feast will stack with most things, and everyone loves Fast Healing 1. Oray doesn't neglect her role as the party healer.

As the sun sets low behind the hamlet Jan slips his goggles down over his eyes. The smokey, black lenses hide his eyes but he does not stumble. The village consists, or rather consisted, of about 36 buildings. The largest buildings are a trading post ("Aaron's General Store"), a church of Pelor, a mill, and a two-storied combination inn and tavern ("The Hawk and Mouse"). The rest are simple cottages. Scorch marks mar many of the walls and the ground, and several of the cottages have partially or fully collapsed.

Darren As it turns out, you do remember quite a few stories and facts about the area.

Sarwin was founded nearly 600 years ago by a small group of powerful explorers who also constructed the nearby Sarwin Castle. The village sprung up overnight when two married wizards, Annah and Zebulahr Sarwin, and their followers settled in the remote region. With their magic and followers, they defeated the uncoordinated hordes of orcs and giants that attached the region after every spring thaw. In addition, the frequent earthquakes that the region suffered virtually stopped after the Sarwins arrived.

Sarwin Castle itself is powerfully defended against attack, due to the work of its founders. Rumors hold that ancient allegiances with powers form the Elemental Plane of Air have allowed the Sarwins to recruit aid from that plane in crafting the defenses of the castle.

The youngest Sarwin child, a gifted and precocious girl named Arezi, vanished from the castle three years ago. The Sarwins spared no expense in their attempts so find her, but ultimately were forced to give her up for lost. Almetha Sarwin, Arezi's mother, was particularly brokenhearted about this development and rumor holds that she is slowly descending into some sort of terrible madness.

Zerran From your readings, you remember the following:

In addition, looking over the village, you suspect that a localized earthquake is responsible for the collapsed buildings.

DMInitially along paths likely traveled: the main gate, entrances to any buildings that look interesting, and so on; attackers who clean up the bodies may leave some surprises for people who might be coming by, even though it's more likely the work of some form of spawning undead, or a necromancer wanting materials. A trap is not something I'm going to immediately discount, however, without further evidence. However, in the process, she's also checking the areas for auras - and the leftover Dim auras (see Detect Magic (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/detectMagic.htm)) are still interesting, and will give clues as to what happened. If she consistently finds no traps and no magic, after checking the village entrance and the notable buildings, she'll start looking for other things (broken arrow shafts and arrowheads, used sling bullets, burned spell components, that kind of thing), especially in places where people would be likely to congregate in an emergency (the named buildings, really - starting with the one that looks like it was sturdiest prior to the devastation - thickest walls, or even stone walls - usually either the church or the mill, for fairly obvious reasons).

Darren

" Roads go ever ever on,
Over rock and under tree,
By caves where never sun has shone,
By streams that never find the sea;
Over snow by winter sown,
And through the merry flowers of June,
Over grass and over stone,
And under mountains in the moon. "

He sings, a song for the road by a certain halfling.

Zerran was simply moving along and with a thinking face coming up with what was happening in the village.

The walk along the path is pleasant, at least until a large rock comes flying down from the clifftop above, aimed at Zerran!

Oray Wornran

Invisible, and out of sight of most, Oray looks around for a way up to whatever's tossing rocks as she beings to respond.

Oh yes, and if it's a Giant, Oray's got a +4 racial Dodge bonus.

As the rock bounces off Zerran's armor, he prepares for battle.

I really, really hate to do this, but I've had some real life stuff come up, and I don't think I can continue this game right now. I'm really sorry; if I start it up again, I'll be sure to let you know (and you'll have guaranteed spots).

Ok. I have no reason to delete subscriptions, so if you'll just PM me when things resume, or post in the IC or OOC threads, that'd be great.
